Walsh Runners Maxfield, ‘Kid’ Prep for Graded Assignments

DARRS Inc.'s Extravagant Kid (Kiss the Kid), winner of the G1 Al Quoz Sprint Mar. 27, turned in his third work at Keeneland Saturday since his Dubai performance, covering five furlongs in 1:02.20 in company with stakes-placed winner Lontano (Street Boss) over a fast dirt track. Keeneland clockers caught him in fractions of :11.80, :24, ;36, :49.60 and 1:02.20.

“He worked great. He's doing good,” said trainer Brendan Walsh. “Looks like he came out of the race in Dubai good and got back in good shape.”

The 8-year-old is being considered for two races at the Royal meeting: the five-furlong G1 King's Stand S. June 15 and the six-furlong G1 Diamond Jubilee S. June 19.

“If it worked out good going to Dubai, why wouldn't it work out going to England?” said Walsh, who will be saddling his first runner at the Royal meeting. “He shows that he's good enough to take on those kind of horses.”

Walsh confirmed that Ryan Moore, who rode Extravagant Kid to his Dubai victory, will be back in board the gelding at Royal Ascot. Extravagant Kid is to accompany the contingent of horses trained by Wesley Ward on the flight from Indianapolis.

Another Saturday worker at Keeneland for Walsh was Godolphin's Maxfield (Street Sense), who was caught in :49.80 for a half-mile in his first work since winning the Apr. 30 GII Alysheba S. at Churchill Downs. The 4-year-old is scheduled to make his next start in the June 26 GII Stephen Foster S. at Churchill.

“Maxfield is doing great,” said Walsh, who has around 40 horses stabled at Keeneland. “He worked nice, and we're back on the go and on to the next spot.”

Keeneland Catalogs 18 Horses For May Digital Sale

Keeneland has cataloged 18 horses for its May Digital Sale, to be held Tuesday, May 25 as part of Keeneland's Digital Sales Ring platform. The May Sale catalog is available at Keenelanddigital.com.

Online bidding opens at 10 a.m. ET on May 25 and will begin to close that day at 2 p.m.

BUYERS – How to Register and Bid

Keeneland encourages buyers to register for an account in the Keeneland Digital Sales Ring before May 25. To log in to the Keeneland Digital Sales Ring, you should register for an account or log in through the Keeneland Sales Portal. Your universal login applies to both the Sales Portal and the Digital Sales Ring.

Step 1: Visit portal.keeneland.com and create an account or log in to your existing Keeneland Sales Portal Account;

Step 2: Upon sign in, click MY ACCOUNT and review your current credit limit. Request credit as needed. We recommend you do this prior to the sale day;

Step 3: Click the DIGITAL SALES RING button in the top right corner to automatically access and participate in the Digital Sale.

Buyers have two options for bidding on the day of the sale:

Direct Bid allows you to bid manually as you go.
Max Bid establishes a top price that you are willing to pay for a hip. As the bidding progresses, the software will automatically bid on your behalf as you are outbid up to your maximum.

The Keeneland May Digital Sale features an 18-strong catalog as part of Keeneland's Digital Sales Ring and is now available for viewing at keenelanddigital.com.

Among the lots of interest are hip 2, the 6-year-old stallion American Power (Power Broker), winner of three of his last four trips to the post, including a half-length victory in the GIII Toboggan S. at Aqueduct Jan. 30. The chestnut is being pointed to the GII True North S. at Belmont Park June 4. American Power is consigned by Sean S. Perl Bloodstock.

Three-year-old filly Frozay All Day (Frosted) sells through Taylor Made as hip 8. A daughter of SW & GSP Skipalute (Midnight Lute), the bay hails from the female family of GISW Come Dancing (Malibu Moon) and SP Delightful Quality (Elusive Quality), the dam of Eclipse Award winner and 'TDN Rising Star' Essential Quality (Tapit) from the same sire line.

Oaks Trial Success For Lemon Drop Kid’s Sherbet Lemon

Fourth behind TDN Rising Star Noon Star (Galileo {Ire}) in a 10-furlong Wetherby novice Apr. 25, Apple Tree Stud's Sherbet Lemon (Lemon Drop Kid) was on top at the end of a close call for Saturday's Listed Lingfield Oaks Trial. Shadowing the leader Loving Dream (GB) (Gleneagles {Ire}) throughout the early stages, the 28-1 shot worked her way to the front with over a furlong remaining and dug in to prevail by 3/4 of a length from Save a Forest (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) with less than two lengths covering the first four home.

Apple Tree Stud's manager is the former leading jumps jockey Robert Thornton and he said, “She wasn't far behind John Gosden's horse [Loving Dream] at Wetherby last time and there were extenuating circumstances for our filly, as she was stood in the stalls for 10 minutes and got shuffled back. We thought she'd run well today, but she's surprised us that she's won.” As far as a tilt at the June 4 G1 Epsom Oaks is concerned, Thornton was positive. “I think we sort of have to–I'm not sure how many chances you get to do that type of thing and it's a dream to have runners in those type of races,” he added. “She's handled all types of ground and handled the undulations today, so we may as well have a go. She'll stay galloping, so you never know, she could run into a place.”

Successful on her only other start on Newcastle's Tapeta Feb. 11, Sherbet Lemon is a half-sister to the strong-staying G1 Melbourne Cup third Il Paradiso (Galileo {Ire}) and to the stakes-placed Love Beach (Bernardini). The dam, who was runner-up in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. for Ballydoyle, is a full-sister to the four-times group 1-winning champion and successful Irish 2000 Guineas-winning sire Mastercraftsman (Ire) and a half to the GIII Locust Grove H. winner Genuine Devotion (Ire) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}). This is also the family of the brilliant G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Sakhee (Bahri), fellow sire Celestial Storm (Roberto) and the G2 Middleton S. winner Beautiful Romance (GB) (New Approach {Ire}).
