$1-Million Authentic Colt to Resolute at OBS

A colt from the first crop of champion Authentic sold for $1 million to an online bid from John Stewart's Resolute Bloodstock. Consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds, the chestnut colt worked a furlong last week in :9 4/5. He is out of stakes-placed Ruby Trust (Smart Strike), a daughter of graded winner Queen of the Catsle (Tale of the Cat). Randy Hartley and Dean DeRenzo purchased the colt for $260,000 at last year's Keeneland September sale.

Saturday Insights: Pricey Quality Road Colt Finally Makes The Races At Santa Anita

6th-SA, $65K, Msw, 4-5yo, 7f, 5:59 p.m. ET
At $1.15 million as the ninth highest price taken during Keeneland's 2021 September Sale, Mayberry Farm signed the ticket on behalf of Lee and Susan Searing's CRK Stable to acquire THEISMANN (Quality Road). Sent to John Shirreffs, the colt initially began to drill late in his juvenile year, but was given time by the veteran conditioner when he had several minor setbacks as a 3-year-old.

Ready to fire as an 8-1 shot on the morning-line, the bay was bred by Dixiana and is the first foal out of GSP Brielle's Appeal (English Channel). Unraced second dam Court of Appeal (Deputy Minister) is responsible for MGSW/MGISP Authenticity (Quiet American), who produced GI Arkansas Derby and GI Runhappy Malibu S. victor Charlatan (Spieghtstown). Saturday Insights: A ‘Top’-Priced Son Of Twirling Candy Debuts At Gulfstream

8th-GP, $89K, Msw, 3yo, 1m, 3:37 p.m. ET.
For a $1-million price tag, Sean Flanagan secured TOP CONOR (Twirling Candy) for his stable at last year's OBS March Sale, which tied the colt for the fourth-highest at the auction and made him his sire's highest-priced 2-year-old in 2023.

Previously going for $200,000 during Keeneland September, the Chad Brown trainee is out of GSP Divine Dawn (Divine Park), who International Equities acquired with a filly by Nyquist in-utero for $285,000 at the Keeneland November Sale in 2017.

A full-sister to GSW/MSW Divine Miss Grey, Top Conor's dam is also responsible for 2-year-old filly Augusta Wind (Gun Runner), who Lauren Carlisle signed the ticket for $850,000 at the Saratoga Select Yearling Sale. Divine Dawn foaled a full-sister to this first time starter last year. TJCIS PPS

Whisper Hill and Three Chimneys bred Quality Credit (Quality Road), a filly whose MGISW dam Stopchargingmaria (Tale of the Cat) changed hands from the latter to the former for $4.4 million as the second topper at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Fall Mixed Sale while she was in-foal to Tapit, will be unveiled here. Three Chimneys purchased Quality Credit's younger full-sister for $425,000 at last year's Keeneland September Sale. TJCIS PPS

Along the same Steve Asmussen shedrow as Quality Credit, Stonestreet homebred Mister Lincoln (Constitution) also makes the races. The colt is out of 'TDN Rising Star' GI Spinaway S. victress Hot Dixie Chick (Dixie Union), who produced a pair of 'TDN Rising Stars' in MSW/GSP Union Jackson (Curlin) and his full-brother SP Marsalis as well as GI La Troienne S. heroine Pauline's Pearl (Tapit). Hot Dixie Chick has her own set of talented half-siblings in GI Kentucky Derby hero Always Dreaming (Bodemeister) and GII Demoiselle S. winner Positive Spirt (Pioneerof the Nile). TJCIS PPS

Thursday’s Insights: Pricey Pletcher Colts Debut at Gulfstream

Trainer Todd Pletcher offers up a pair of seven-figure sales horses making their belated debuts. Victorious Racing LLC's SWORDOFHONOR (IRE) (Siyouni {Fr}) sports some pretty flashy credentials. The €1.5 million Arqana August yearling purchase is a half-brother to the year-older Angel Bleu (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), a two-time Group 1 winner as a juvenile who subsequently won last summer's G2 Celebration Mile S. at Goodwood. Consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux and purchased by Oliver St Lawrence, the bay was the second highest-priced yearling and the top-priced colt of the 2021 Arqana August Yearling Sale. His family also includes Group 1 scorers Elvstroem (Aus) and Haradasun (Aus). The son of Cercle de La Vie (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), sister to Group 1 winners Highland Reel and Cape of Good Hope, posted a pair of bullet works–including the most recent a 1:01 (1/5) move Feb. 8–at Pletcher's Palm Beach Downs base.

Also representing the Hall of Famer is Repole Stable and St Elias Stable's STORM READY (City of Light), a $1.05 million Keeneland September buy. The half to GSW Biddy Duke (Bayern) posted his latest breeze at Palm Beach Downs Jan. 31, covering five panels in 1:00 3/5 (1/2). The colts will be partnered by the Ortiz brothers, the former by Jose and the latter by Irad. TJCIS PPS
