Keeneland To Offer Drive Thru Betting On Kentucky Oaks, Derby Days

Keeneland's Drive Thru Betting will be open Friday, Sept. 4 and Saturday, Sept. 5 to accept wagers on the Kentucky Oaks (G1), Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) and all the races on those two days from Churchill Downs.

Drive Thru Betting will be located behind the Keeneland Entertainment Center, which can be accessed via Gate 1 at Man o' War Boulevard. All patrons will complete a health screening and temperature check at Gate 1.

Keeneland will not be offering any other Oaks or Derby events except for Drive Thru Betting.

Here are additional details about Drive Thru Betting:

Kentucky Oaks Day – Friday, Sept. 4

· Drive Thru Betting will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Six windows will be available.

· Advance wagering for the Kentucky Derby full card and Oaks/Derby Double will be available.

· First post at Churchill is 11 a.m. Post time for the Oaks is 5:45 p.m.

· Full-card simulcasting programs are $4 each.

· A limited number of Kentucky Oaks souvenir programs will be available for $5 each.

· The Official Kentucky Derby Program will be available at noon for $6 each.

Kentucky Derby Day – Saturday, Sept. 5

· Drive Thru Betting will be open from 7 a.m. until the Derby post time (7:01 p.m.). Eight windows will be available.

· First post at Churchill is 11 a.m.

· Full-card simulcasting programs are $4 each.

· Official Kentucky Derby Programs are $6 each.

Keeneland Select always open

Fans also may wager on all the racing action from Churchill online through Keeneland Select, which enables players to watch and wager on racing from tracks around the world. Red Mile simulcasting is available

At Red Mile, the historic harness track near downtown Lexington where Keeneland offers simulcast wagering, advance wagering on the Oaks and Derby cards begins Thursday, Sept. 3 at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Simulcasting is available on the second floor only. There is no reserved seating, and seating will be first come, first served. Seating is extremely limited due to social distancing guidelines, and all patrons must wear masks.

Parking and admission are free.

On Friday, Sept. 4, wagering on the Oaks card and advance wagering on the Derby card begins at 10 a.m.

On Derby Day, wagering at Red Mile will open at 10 a.m.

On both days, players who want to wager and leave will be able to “Park and Bet” by making their wagers trackside.

Keeneland Releases Fall Condition Book, Will Card Eight Undercard Stakes At Breeders’ Cup

Keeneland has released the Condition Book for both its 2020 Fall Meet from Oct. 2-24 and the undercard stakes to be run during the Nov. 6-7 Breeders' Cup World Championships.

During the 17-day Fall Meet, Keeneland will present 18 stakes worth a total of $4,775,000. The season opens with the prestigious Fall Stars Weekend. A total of 10 Fall Meet stakes are “Win and You're In” events, part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series of automatic qualifying races for the World Championships.

As the host site for the Breeders' Cup, Keeneland has carded an additional eight undercard stakes worth $1 million to be held in conjunction with the World Championships.

Keeneland Releases Fall Stakes Schedule, Including Nine ‘Win And You’re In’ Races

Keeneland will be the focus of Thoroughbred racing this autumn when the track presents 18 stakes worth a total of $4,775,000 during its 2020 Fall Meet, to be held Oct. 2-24 ahead of the 37th Breeders' Cup World Championships at Keeneland on Nov. 6-7.

The prestigious Fall Stars Weekend opens the 17-day season, which also features the repositioning of the Hagyard Fayette (G2) to join the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1) Presented by Dixiana on the second Saturday of the meet and serve as a prep for the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) on Nov. 7.

“The Keeneland fall racing season is highly anticipated by horsemen and fans alike, but this one is even more exciting as it serves as a prelude for the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland,” Keeneland Vice President of Racing Bob Elliston said. “We expect to welcome many Breeders' Cup-bound stars, both human and equine, that will boost the racing competition and the handicapping fun during the Fall Meet and build momentum leading into the World Championships.”

Keeneland will host the Breeders' Cup for the second time following its successful debut at the track in 2015.

Nine Fall Stars Weekend stakes are “Win and You're In” events, part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series Presented by America's Best Racing that awards each winner an automatic and free entry into the World Championships: $350,000 Darley Alcibiades (G1) (Juvenile Fillies-G1) and $200,000 Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix (G2) (Sprint-G1) on Friday, Oct. 2; $750,000 Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) (TVG Mile-G1), $400,000 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) (TVG Juvenile-G1), $350,000 First Lady Presented by UK HealthCare (G1) (Maker's Mark Filly and Mare Turf-G1) and $200,000 Thoroughbred Club of America (G2) (Filly and Mare Sprint-G1) on Saturday, Oct. 3; and $400,000 Juddmonte Spinster (G1) (Distaff-G1), $200,000 Bourbon (G2) (Juvenile Turf Presented by Coolmore America-G1) and $150,000 Indian Summer (L) (Juvenile Turf Sprint-G2) on Sunday, Oct. 4.

The other graded stakes during Fall Stars Weekend, also being run Saturday, Oct. 3, is the $150,000 Woodford (G2) Presented by TVG.

Last year, Fall Stars Weekend produced three Breeders' Cup winners. Darley Alcibiades winner British Idiom won the Juvenile Fillies; Juddmonte Spinster winner Blue Prize (ARG) took the Distaff and First Lady Presented by UK HealthCare winner Uni (GB) captured the Mile. British Idiom and Uni both were division champions.

Keeneland's 10th Breeders' Cup Challenge race, set for Wednesday, Oct. 7, is the $150,000 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (G2). The winner earns a spot in the starting gate for the Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).

The Fall Meet's sixth Grade 1 stakes, the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Dixiana, an invitational turf race for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles, will be held Saturday, Oct. 10.

TIF Lauds Keeneland For Proactively Addressing Late Odds Shift

Keeneland didn't just offer customers free programs and past performances over their recently concluded five-day summer meet, they made a highly unusual announcement on Saturday morning.

After customer complaints on Friday afternoon, Keeneland explained a late odds change from the previous day's races, assuring the public the bets were appropriately time-stamped before betting was closed.

It's a tiny, first step for an industry which has too often left the majority of its customers behind, promoting the access of a few massive wagering syndicates above the experiences of the general public.

The field for Keeneland's sixth race on Friday jumped from the stalls and #3 Early Mischief was 10-1. While it doesn't happen often, the odds for the race were still on the screen as the field broke away. The next time the odds appeared on the screen, after the race was finished and Keeneland was showing a head-on replay of the start of the race, Early Mischief was listed at 5-1.

Those who bet the race, bet racing in general or simply observed the incident, commented negatively on the situation via social media in its aftermath. Incidents such as these occur with regularity across the sport, often leading to substantial frustration from customers and, in general, silence from racetracks and bet-takers.

Needless to say, concerned customers could have a variety of questions.

Was the bet entered after the race started and Early Mischief ended up on the lead?

Why does it take the tote system so long to update?

Is there anything nefarious involved here?

These are all fair questions. Customers ask these questions because incidents like the one at Keeneland occur with regularity across North American racing. Day in and day out.

Much to their credit, Keeneland did publish a statement on Saturday morning following the Early Mischief odds shift:

“In Keeneland's 6th race on Friday, there was a significant late odds shift on the winner, Early Mischief (3). Upon request from Keeneland, the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau analyzed the wagering records. During the last cycle, 26 percent of the win pool was received ($61,000). Of this amount, $16,000 was wagered on the 3 horse, dropping his odds from 10-1 to 5-1.

“Upon examination, several large win wagers were placed on the 3 horse just prior to post and those were reflected as horses left the gate. Keeneland refreshes win odds every 10 seconds to give the customer as accurate a picture as possible.

“All wagers were time stamped properly and were placed prior to the start of the race.”
