White Marlin Added to Tattersalls February Sale

The two-for-two White Marlin (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) has been added to the upcoming Tattersalls February Sale on Feb. 3-4. Consigned as lot 375A by Ronald Rauscher, the 4-year-old colt is rated 93p by Timeform after winning a Dec. 15 Dundalk maiden and a Jan. 14 handicap there, both over 1 ½ miles on the all-weather for trainer Joseph O'Brien in the colours of Ms. M. McDowall.

In addition, the grey is a half-brother to G1 Flying Five S. heroine Romantic Proposal (Ire) (Raven's Pass). The duo are out of the winner Playwithmyheart (GB) (Diktat {GB}), herself a half-sister to G1 Prix de la Foret hero Toylsome (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}), the G3 winner Coral Mist (GB) (Bahamian Bounty {GB}) and the dam of stakes winner and G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy S. third Western Australia (Ire) (Australia {GB}).

ThoroughBid has catalogued 20 horses in training for the upcoming All-Weather Sale, slated for Jan. 16. Graduates of the online auction will qualify for £30,000 All-Weather Challenge. Among entrants, Mick Appleby's recent Shadwell-bred colt Annaf (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}), winner at Newcastle Jan. 6 and four-time winner Here and Now (GB) (Dansili {GB}). All horses sold will go on to compete in the £30,000 All-Weather Challenge, where the prize fund will be shared amongst the top three horses based on points scored between Jan. 17 – Apr 28. Points can be registered at any all-weather races held at Chelmsford, Dundalk, Lingfield, Newcastle, Southwell, Kempton and Wolverhampton.

Also Sunday, ThoroughBid will also stage a six-horse draft in the January NH Pop-Up Sale Sunday.

“Every sale is another step forward for us and we're delighted to have again secured the backing of some of racing's top yards for the All-Weather Sale,” James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid. “The NH Pop-Up Sale wasn't something that we'd set out to offer originally, but the success of the Christmas Sale left us busy fielding enquiries from vendors with nice National Hunt prospects.”

Crazy Beautiful Returns to Turf in Deep Valley View

Four-time stakes winner Crazy Beautiful (Liam's Map), who raced once on turf in her career debut, will return to the lawn Friday at Keeneland in an extremely deep renewal of the GIII Rubicon Valley View S. for 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles on turf.

Running away to a 3 1/2-length score first out on the Ellis turf last summer, the gray repeated by 3 3/4 lengths in the Runhappy Debutante S. on dirt there to earn 'TDN Rising Star' honors before recording runner-up finishes in the GIII Pocahontas S., GI Darley Alcibiades S. and GII Davona Dale S. Back in the winner's circle after a score in the GII Gulfstream Park Oaks, the $250,000 Fasig-Tipton October grad has added victories in the GII Summertime Oaks, GIII Delaware Oaks and last out in the Seneca Overnight S. Oct. 1 at Churchill.

A fellow 'Rising Star', Tobys Heart (Jack Milton) is looking for her third stakes triumph and first going a route of ground. A dominant 6 3/4-length debut maiden winner despite early trouble last June at Churchill, the $45,000 OBS March bargain backed that up with a success in Saratoga's Bolton Landing S. and annexed the Limestone Turf Sprint S. over this course Apr. 9. Winless in her next three starts, she was last seen cruising to a 2 3/4-length victory with a field-high 92 Beyer in the Nelson's Green Brier Whiskey Music City S. over 6 1/2 furlongs at Kentucky Downs Sept. 12.

It speaks to the depth of this field that an undefeated Grade I winner in Lady Speightspeare (Speightstown) is pegged at 10-1 on the morning line. Also earning a 'Rising Star' badge thanks to a 3 3/4-length score debuting at seven furlongs on the Woodbine grass last August, the Chuck Fipke homebred validated that distinction with a conquest of the GI Natalma S. as the favorite less than a month later. Forced to the bench for nearly a year, the chestnut returned to capture a Woodbine allowance/optional claimer by two lengths over this distance Sept. 6.

Streaking Queenship (Ire) (Excelebration {Ire}) adds European flair to the field, making her North American debut for trainer Joseph O'Brien. Third at 14-1 when unveiled over six furlongs on all-weather last November at Dundalk in Ireland, the bay graduated by a head when stretching out a furlong there next out and took a handicap event by five lengths in her first turf try Apr. 7 at Gorwan Park. Facing males in her initial stakes attempt, she scored a half-length victory in the Navigaton S. Sept. 28 at Cork.

Another recent Euro import rates a big chance in Breaker of Chains (Bernardini). Third after a slow break debuting over a mile July 18 at The Curragh, the $30,000 Keeneland November buy improved a spot against males over nine furlongs on soft ground at Leopardstown Aug. 5 and rallied from last to first for an impressive maiden win with an 89 Beyer Sept. 11 at Kentucky Downs.

Churchill Colt To The Fore In The Star Appeal

Off the mark at the second attempt by five lengths at Down Royal Sept. 3, Demi O'Byrne's Snaffles (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) was one of a clutch of unexposed juveniles lining up for Friday's Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Star Appeal S. at Dundalk and ultimately proved strongest to open his black-type account in the seven-furlong test. Settled in the box seat by Shane Crosse tracking the leading duo Corviglia (Karakontie {Jpn}) and Leinster House (War Front) early, the 11-1 shot worked his way to the front with 150 yards remaining and fought hard to stay there as King X J (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) stayed on out wide to make the margin 3/4 of a length at the line.

“It was a lovely performance. I think he should be unbeaten, as first time out he was slowly away, got into all sorts of trouble and ran on well,” trainer Joseph O'Brien's assistant Brendan Powell said. “Last time at Down Royal he was very laid-back but went and did it well in the end, he learned from that. I think he'll keep improving, if you saw him in the paddock before he's literally asleep. He's the most laid-back horse you'll ever get. He's a tall, sparely-made horse but a good-looking horse and I think he has a very bright future. They've all come to him today and Shane said he's just doing enough in front, because he's having a look at the stands and the whole lot. He's very genuine, will stay a mile very well and could stay further as he's so laid-back.”

Snaffles is the last known foal out of the dam, with her first being the six-times group-winning sire Libranno (GB) (Librettist) whose exploits included successes in the G2 Park S., G2 Richmond S. and G2 July S. Also responsible for the G3 Prix de Cabourg runner-up Al Muthana (Fr) (Pastoral Pursuits {GB}) and the G3 Brownstown S. and G3 Silver Flash S. runner-up Unforgetable (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}), she is a half to the G3 Polar Cup-winning multiple Scandinavian champion Alyshakeys (Den) (Sendawar {Ire}).
