Racing League Teams Taking Shape

John Gosden, alongside fellow Newmarket trainers Sir Mark Prescott, Robert Cowell and David Simcock, will make up one of the dozen teams of the Racing League tournament which begins next summer. Another Newmarket team is comprised of Michael Bell, Ed Dunlop, James Fanshawe and Roger Varian. Clive Cox, Nicky Henderson, Charlie Hills and Jamie Osborne are representing Lambourn. Another team is Mick Appleby, Michael Dods, David O’Meara and Paul Midgley. Mick Channon has joined Paul and Oliver Cole, Eve Johnson Houghton and Hughie Morrison. France will also send a team combining trainers Philippe Decouz, Gavin Hernon, and Edouard Monfort.

The Racing League will see 12 teams of 30 horses each compete over 36 races during a six-week period at Newcastle, Doncaster, Lingfield and Windsor. Each event is worth £50,000, with an overall prizemoney of £1.8 million for the series beginning on July 29 and running until Sept. 2.

In November, six previous teams were released: Tim Easterby and Richard Fahey; Charlie Fellowes, Hugo Palmer and George Scott; Andrew Balding and Richard Hannon; George Baker, David Menuisier, Gary Moore and Amanda Perrett; Roger Charlton, Alan King, Martyn Meade and Brian Meehan; and, representing Ireland, Joseph O’Brien and his brother Donnacha.

Jeremy Wray, Racing League Chief Executive said, “We are really pleased to have such an illustrious group of trainers forming the 12 teams and are delighted to be adding an international flavour with the teams from Ireland and France. The next step will be for each team to select their three jockeys.”

Enable’s Headcollar Still Up for Sale at EACH Charity Auction

As announced last week, champion Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire})’s headcollar is available during the ongoing Celebrity Bottom Drawer auction to aid the East Anglia Children’s Hospices (EACH). DARLECTABLE YOU (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is the seventh foal out of the Lloyd-Webber’s remarkable Dar Re Mi (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}) and a full-sister to the 2018 chief juvenile Too Darn Hot (GB) and high-class racemares So Mi Dar (GB) and Lah Ti Dar (GB). John Gosden gets the April-foaled daughter of the triple Group 1 winner out before the end of the year at the track at which he introduced Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) at almost exactly this date four years ago and which also played host to the fellow Clarehaven stars Palace Pier (GB) (Kingman {GB}), Stradivarius

(Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) and Lord North (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}). Greeting her on her bow is another notably-bred individual in Godolphin’s Bandinelli (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a Charlie Appleby-trained full-brother to the dual top-level scorer Old Persian (GB).

FIREWORKS (FR) (Kingman {GB}) was possibly named after the effect he had on the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale when selling as the third-highest-priced lot and second-highest-priced colt for €850,000 to Amanda Skiffington. Set to debut in the colours of Fiona Carmichael, the William Haggas-trained bay is out of a full-sister to the G2 Lancashire Oaks and G3 Prix Minerve winner Pomology (Arch) and a half to the Grade I performer Sassy Little Lila (Artie Schiller).

Enable Headcollar Part of Celebrity Auction

Champion Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire})’s headcollar, donated by Juddmonte, will make up part of the upcoming Celebrity Bottom Drawer auction to aid the East Anglia Children’s Hospices (EACH). The Juddmonte homebred won 11 Group 1 races and her headcollar was signed by her jockey Frankie Dettori and trainer John Gosden.

Organised by comedian Griff Rhys Jones, the 10-day online auction begins on Friday, Nov. 27. Alongside Enable’s headcollar, there are also top-grade cast-offs, memorabilia and treasure donated by various celebrities including Cate Blanchett, Ralph Fiennes, Ian Hislop, Matt Lucas, David Schwimmer, Dame Judi Dench and Tom Hollander. There are also items from shows Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, James Bond and Pirates of the Caribbean. Juddmonte has been a long-time support of EACH and its undefeated racehorse and leading sire Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) was named an EACH Ambassador.
