Observations: Rising Star Natasha on Parade at Sandown

14.00 Sandown, Nov, £10,000, 2yo, f, 8fT
George Strawbridge's homebred 2-year-old filly NATASHA (GB) (Frankel {GB}) stepped up from an Aug. 2 debut second tackling one mile at Kempton to earn 'TDN Rising Star' status with a five-length Aug. 20 win back over that course and distance in her only other start. The John and Thady Gosden trainee faces five rivals in this turf introduction, headed by Woodford Thoroughbreds' 400,000gns Tattersalls December foal River of Stars (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}), who is a Ralph Beckett-trained half-sister to stakes-winning G2 Oaks d'Italia fourth Apadanah (Ger) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}).

Galileo’s Free Wind Stretches Clear In the Park Hill

George Strawbridge's 325,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 acquisition Free Wind (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) was the stylish winner of Deauville's G3 Prix Minerve last month and simply outclassed overmatched rivals with a seven-length rout in Thursday's G2 Hippo Pro3 Park Hill Fillies' S. over the full G1 St Leger trip. The upwardly mobile sophomore had encountered the reopposing Golden Pass (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}) when a 3/4-of-a-length runner-up to that rival in July's Listed Aphrodite Fillies' S. at Newmarket in her penultimate start and exacted revenge in style. The well-backed 15-8 favourite was swiftly into stride, but immediately reined back by Frankie Dettori to stalk the leaders under a firm hold in third. Looming large on the bridle in the straight to lead with a quarter mile remaining, she surged clear approaching the final furlong and was in splendid isolation in the closing stages, hitting the line with daylight to spare from Golden Pass. Juddmonte's Yesyes (GB) (Camelot {GB}) was best of the remainder and finished 1 1/2 lengths back in third.

Frankel’s Inspiral Powers To May Hill Triumph

Cheveley Park Stud's undefeated 2-year-old filly Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) lit up Sandown with an impressive 3 1/2-length tally in going seven furlongs in July's Listed Star S. and took her record to a perfect three-for-three with another taking display upped to one mile for Thursday's G2 Cazoo Park Hill S. at Doncaster. The homebred bay had previously overcome a slow start to open her account with a 1 1/2-length score in a June 26 seven-furlong maiden at Newmarket and remains on course to return there for the Oct. 8 G1 Fillies' Mile, a double last achieved by Laurens (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) in 2017. Inspiral went postward as the heavily-favoured 2-9 pick and bowled along under cover in fifth through halfway of a contest won in the past by breed-bending distaffers Height of Fashion (Fr) (Bustino {GB}) and Rafha (GB) (Kris {GB}). Angled into the clear soon after passing the three-furlong marker, she powered to the front approaching the eighth pole and lengthened clear in the closing stages to easily account for the pacesetting Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) by 3 3/4 lengths. Rolling The Dice (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) finished 1 3/4 lengths adrift in third while the forecast rain didn't arrive in time for Kirsten Rausing's homebred Haydock maiden winner Kawida (GB) (Sir Percy {GB}), who was scratched.

Muhaarar’s Israr A TDN Rising Star At Donny

Doncaster's St Leger festival had begun in the wrong way for Shadwell as the 2-year-old Jadhlaan (GB) (Dark Angel {Ire}) had suffered a fatal injury in the opening race, injuring Jim Crowley in the process, but there was some consolation half an hour later as the homebred Israr (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}) earned TDN Rising Star status on debut. Sent off at 8-1 for the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden S. over a mile, the John and Thady Gosden-trained son of the operation's G1 Epsom Oaks and G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. heroine Taghrooda (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) was awkwardly away from the wide stall and lost ground veering right under Rab Havlin. Quickly gaining composure to track the leader of his group towards the stand's rail, the bay was green isolated on the wing in the middle part of the race but came alive instantly when asked to close approaching two out. Swooping on the 66-1 shot Savvy Victory (Ire) (New Bay {GB}) inside the final furlong, he asserted to score a shade cosily by half a length, with 1 1/2 lengths back to the winner's stablemate and 5-4 favourite Frantastic (GB) (Frankel {GB}), the full-brother to the dual G1 Champion S. hero Cracksman (GB) who put up a highly encouraging debut effort in his own right. “It's a very laid-back family and a mile-and-a-half family, I loved the way he finished out passing the line and he took a while to pull up,” Havlin said of the March-foaled half-brother to the useful 102-rated handicapper Almighwar (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). “Taghrooda and Almighwar were laid-back, but he's a bit quicker–he's smaller, stockier and stronger than them. They went a bit slow early and he was not really taking the bit and racing a bit babyish, but when I gave him a squeeze he was all there for me and finished out well. He's obviously pretty nice and I love his mindset, so hopefully he has a bright future.” Israr, who becomes Muhaarar's second TDN Rising Star after the recent Newmarket winner Razzle Dazzle (GB), is the third foal out of Taghrooda, who was also runner-up in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks and third in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe during her stunning 3-year-old campaign. Her dam was the triple listed scorer Ezima (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), who was also second in the G2 Lancashire Oaks and hails from the family of the high-class stayers Enzeli (Ire) (Kahyasi {Ire}) and Estimate (Ire) (Monsun {Ger}) and the G1 Irish Oaks heroine Ebadiyla (Ire) (Sadler's Wells).
