Buick And Mishriff Likely To Team Up For The Arc

William Buick is likely to ride John and Thady Gosden's Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) in the Paris Longchamp in the G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after Adayar (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) was ruled out of the race in favour of the G1 Champion S. at Ascot.

Prince Faisal's 5-year-old is a Group 1 winner in France, Dubai, and the UK, and, although he has yet to win in 2022, he has been in the top three in three of his four starts.

Runner-up to Arc rival Vadeni (Fr) (Churchill {Ire}) in the G1 Coral-Eclipse in July, under Prince Faisal's former retained rider David Egan, Mishriff was third in the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot later that month.

He rebounded to take second to the G1 Champion S.-bound Baaeed (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) in the G1 Juddmonte International S. in August and was last seen running fourth in the G1 Irish Champion S. at Leopardstown on Sept. 10.

“He's in good order and I think William Buick will be riding him,” Gosden senior told Sky Sports Racing. “The ground was sticky and holding in Ireland and he wasn't in love with that, but he was doing his best work at the end.

“He got a little bit out of it, he has won over a mile and a half, he's won a Prix du Jockey Club, he's won on soft ground.

“I'm perfectly aware of the quality of the race but it doesn't have an outstanding star in it, to that extent a lot of people have been tempted.

“He's pretty experienced, he's been around the world this horse, we haven't been frightened wherever he's run. He's won Saudi Cups, he's raced in France, he's raced in Ireland, he's raced in England–he's very international.

“He's run on dirt, on soft turf, on heavy turf as a 2-year-old at Nottingham, and firm ground and sand tracks.

“He's a very versatile horse and all being well, he'll be going to stud in France at the end of the season.”

Kingman’s Commissioning Stars In The Rockfel

Newmarket's Cambridgeshire meeting is always a hotbed of future Classic prospects and Friday's G2 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Rockfel S. unearthed one of the most exciting from Britain in 2022 as Isa Salman and Abdulla Al Khalifa's Commissioning (GB) (Kingman {GB}) maintained her unbeaten record in the 'Win and You're In' qualifier for the Nov. 4 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Impressive in a July Course novice over this seven-furlong trip that has worked out well July 30, the John and Thady Gosden-trained bay was always travelling smoothly for Robert Havlin racing far side halfway down the field. Showing some signs of greenness but also evidence of a huge engine as she arrived into contention running down into the dip, the hooded 7-2 second favourite took the measure of Rage Of Bamby (Ire) (Saxon Warrior {Jpn}) a furlong out and readily asserted on the climb to the line. She had 2 3/4 lengths to spare there over the eye-catching closer Electric Eyes (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}), another Karl Burke juvenile to make an impact in a hot race, with Rage Of Bamby fading late to be 1 1/4 lengths further away in third.

“I had to wake her up a bit and almost got into trouble by getting there too soon, so I just sat there at the two pole,” Havlin said. “When she picked up, it was kind of immediate and I got a bit lonely in front. She would stay a mile no problem–I ride her quite a lot at home and we've always thought that as she finishes her work strongly. She can be busy in the mornings but is uncomplicated at the races.”

John Gosden is looking at a potential quick return to the Rowley Mile for the G1 Fillies' Mile in two weeks' time.

“We wanted to give her a bit of time after her debut, as she was growing and she is not a big heavy robust filly. Frankie said he couldn't pull her up after her debut and she went all the way to the very end. She was just getting rolling with a furlong to go there and it was slightly the same today. The Fillies' Mile comes quickly, but she doesn't have to run again after and it is close to home. If she is happy and well, we might look at it. There is also a Breeders' Cup invitation. We did that before we went to Del Mar with a filly that won this. She didn't stay a mile, but this one will.”

Karl Burke said of the runner-up, “She is a potentially high-class filly and she has proved that today. She got a little bit sandwiched coming out of the stalls and we didn't want to be that far back. She is quite a keen-travelling horse and she always wants a bit of cover. I'd say we won't run again. She is an inexperienced filly, but she is a big raw filly and this time of the year I don't want to run her back quick and we are running out of options. The horse that finished second in this last year didn't do too bad in the 1000 Guineas!”

Eve Johnson Houghton said of Rage Of Bamby, “I definitely think she was the second-best horse in the race. I think she had been softened up by the winner and the second horse came and got her. Possibly we need to drop her back in trip, as she had them all cooked a furlong out and I'm not sure she stayed the seven furlongs 100 per cent in that company.”

Commissioning is the first runner for the dam, whose son of Fastnet Rock (Aus) sells at the upcoming Book 2. A €175,000 purchase from the Aga Khan Studs draft at the 2010 Arqana December Mixed Sale, she is a full-sister to a pair of talented Ballydoyle performers in the G1 Irish Derby and G1 St Leger hero Capri (Ire) and the G3 Stanerra S. winner and G1 Irish Oaks and G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares S.-placed Passion (Ire). Also a full-sibling to the G3 Loughbrown S.-winning stayer Cypress Creek (Ire), the Cheltenham Festival winning hurdler Brazil (Ire) and Rosegreen's 'TDN Rising Star' juvenile Tower of London (Ire), she is a granddaughter of the G2 Prix de Malleret and G3 Prix de la Nonette scorer and G1 Prix Vermeille runner-up Diamilina (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}).

The fourth dam is the Malleret runner-up Diamonaka (Fr) (Akarad {Fr}), whose sire son Diamond Green (Fr) (Green Desert) was runner-up in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains, G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and G1 St James's Palace S., while she is also the second dam of the G1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer (Ire) (Halling).

Dubawi’s Mimikyu Wins The Park Hill

Providing a timely boost to Saturday's St Leger protagonist Haskoy (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}), George Strawbridge's Mimikyu (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) dominated Thursday's G2 Coral Park Hill Fillies' S. at Doncaster. Only seventh behind that Juddmonte homebred in the Aug. 18 Listed Galtres S. at York, the 13-2 shot raced in last early with Frankie Dettori happy to track the 6-4 favourite Eshaada (GB) (Muhaarar {GB}). As that rival went stand's side at the top of the straight, the John and Thady Gosden-trained 3-year-old stayed up the centre and produced a surge to overhaul the Shadwell runner passing two out en route to a 2 3/4-length success, with Eshaada's stablemate Believe In Love (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) another two lengths behind in third.

Mishriff ‘Felt Super’ In Early Morning Work

Jockey James Doyle, who picked up the ride on Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) for the G1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth S. on Saturday, was pleased with the 5-year-old, after a spin on the Al Bahathri at Newmarket early on Wednesday morning.

“It was an early start, but he felt fantastic,” Doyle told Sky Sports Racing. “I jumped on him at 5:10 a.m. and he did a nice blow up the Al Bahathri, a gallop he knows well, and he felt in good order. There was no questions asked, but I have to say he felt super and moved great.

“It's very exciting–what a race. It's a small but select field, but there's not one runner in the race that doesn't deserve to be there.”

The ride on the globetrotting Group 1 winner became available when owner Prince Faisal announced that David Egan was no longer his retained rider. Mishriff, who just missed when second to Vadeni (Fr) (Churchill {Ire}) in the G1 Coral-Eclipse S. at Sandown on July 2, ran second in last year's King George. He faces G1 Irish Derby hero Westover (GB) (Frankel {GB}) among others on Saturday.

“The prospect of him being more tuned up for the King George is quite exciting and the mile and a half doesn't seem to be a problem,” added Doyle of the John and Thady Gosden runner. “He's a horse that really wears his heart on his sleeve late on a race. He has that superb way of galloping where he really does get his head low. I wish every horse tried as hard as he does.”

Egan had partnered Mishriff to some of his greatest wins, including the inaugural $20-million Saudi Cup, the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic, and his victory in the 2021 G1 Juddmonte International S.

Doyle added, “I haven't had chance to speak to David yet, but I will do. Obviously I feel terribly sorry for David, it's never nice, but I heard him say he's not the first person to be jocked off a horse and he won't be the last. I think that's the right way to look at it, these things happen and how you deal with these events kind of defines you as a person.

“He's dealt with it like a grown up man and we mustn't forget he's still a young man in this sport, so he's still learning his trade and full credit to the way he's coped with everything.”
