Maclean’s Music Filly ‘Nose’ Her Way Home

1st-Del Mar, $71,500, Msw, 11-12, 2yo, f, 5fT, :57.37, fm, nose.
UNBRIDLED MARY (f, 2, Maclean's Music–Bauble, by Tale of the Cat) amassed a very imposing worktab, capped by a strong half-mile gate move in :47 4/5 (3/37) at Santa Anita Nov. 7, and was off right at her morning-line odds of 4-1. Hustled along early by Joe Bravo, the bay traveled sweetly inside on the turn and was angled out sharply into the three path on the swing for home. Whether by design or not, Unbridled Mary dropped back down to the rail with an eighth of a mile to race and closed off powerfully to find the line just to the good of Pammy's Ready (More Than Ready). A $39,000 graduate of last year's KEESEP sale, Unbridled Mary breezed a furlong in a steady :10 3/5 (see below) and was hammered down for $155,000 at this year's Fasig-Tipton Santa Anita 2YOs In Training Sale. The last listed produce for her dam, Unbridled Mary is out of a half-sister to GISW Persistently (Smoke Glacken). Sales history: $39,000 Ylg '20 KEESEP; $155,000 2yo '21 FTSANA. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $42,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

Lane’s End Surfboards to Benefit PDJF

Twenty-four handcrafted surfboards representing the entire Lane's End Farm stallion roster will be on display at Del Mar and at Breeders' Cup partner hotels from Nov. 3-6 and will be auctioned off to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, according to a press release from the farm Thursday.

The PDJF is an independent charitable organization that provides financial assistance to jockeys who have suffered catastrophic injuries.

The unique boards will be on public display at the Hyatt Regency, Fairmont Grand, Lodge at Torrey Pines, and L'Auberge—as well as Del Mar Racetrack Nov. 3-6.

During this time, the boards will be sold to the highest bidders via live online auction and 100% of proceeds will be donated to the PDJF.

“This cause has been one of the major focuses of my parents' philanthropy,” said Bill Farish of Lane's End Farm. “It's been underfunded for a long time and it's very important to us that we
support the often forgotten jockeys who risk their lives for our entertainment and our business.”

As part of the activation, TVG will air a segment filmed in Los Angeles featuring the custom Lane's End surfboards and some of racing's most respected jockeys. Mike Smith, Joe Bravo
and Drayden Van Dyke will all receive a surfing lesson from Paul Naret of Chilli Surfboards.

Those interested in bidding on the Lane's End custom surfboards benefitting the PDJF can do so at www.lanesend.com/auction.

TVG’s Weaver Wins Inaugural Folds Of Honor Poker Tournament At Santa Anita

Santa Anita Park's inaugural “Folds of Honor” Charity Poker Tournament, held Saturday night following the races in the Arcadia, Calif., track's Player's Lounge, located above Clockers' Corner, was deemed a rousing success as more than $50,000 was raised to help provide scholarships to spouses and children of disabled or fallen American military veterans.

A large contingent of Santa Anita fans, jockeys, agents, owners, trainers, employees, and other racing industry personalities helped to make the event a success.

“We were very gratified with the turn-out and the support we were able to provide to Folds of Honor,” said Santa Anita Senior Vice President and General Manager Nate Newby. “One hundred percent of the money won went to the Folds of Honor Foundation. This is a tremendous cause and I think everyone senses we have an obligation to help the families of those who have given so much in the defense of our freedom. We look forward to expanding this event and hosting it again next year.”

Among those Santa Anita-based jockeys that participated last night were Joe Bravo, Abel Cedillo, Kyle Frey, Ricky Gonzalez, Juan Hernandez, Edwin Maldonado, Tiago Pereira, and Jessica Pyfer. Trainers included Vladimir Cerin, Ryan Hanson, Doug O'Neill, and Jonathan Wong.

Frank Mirahmadi, the Voice of Santa Anita, and TVG's Dave Weaver, who credited “beginner's luck” in making a winning “all-in” bet with Queen-Nine, off-suit, headed an enthusiastic group of Santa Anita employees and Thoroughbred owners.

The Folds of Honor Foundation, which has awarded more than 35,000 educational scholarships, was represented by retired United States Marine Corps Sergeant and P.O.W. Rocky Stickmann, who was one of 65 Americans taken hostage by Iranian extremists at the U.S. embassy in Teheran on Nov. 4, 1979. Stickman and his fellow Americans were held captive for 444 days until their release on the first day of Ronald Reagan's presidency on Jan. 20, 1981.

Santa Anita's current Autumn Meet will draw to a close next Sunday, Oct. 31, with first post time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. For additional information, please visit santaanita.com or call (626) 574-7223.
