Al Shaqab Racing's €80,000 Arqana September graduate Welwal (GB) (Shalaa {Ire}, who snagged two of three juvenile outings last term, went postward for Sunday's G3 Prix de Fontainebleau at ParisLongchamp coming back off a Mar. 22 conditions second at Chantilly and was comfortably on top at the end of the one-mile test. Steadied to race behind the leaders in sixth for the most part, the 28-5 chance made headway under pressure in the straight to challenge with 300 metres remaining and was ridden out in the dying embers to deny Mathletic (Fr) (Kingman {GB}) by a neck for a career high.

Welwal is the fifth of seven foals and one of five winners from as many runners produced by Listed Prix La Sorellina victrix Cheriearch (Arch), herself a half-sister to Listed Premio Bereguardo winner Cherisy (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}) out of stakes-winning GIII Landaluce S. runner-up Cherish Destiny (Grand Slam). The March-foaled bay is a half-brother to G3 Prix de la Grotte third Epistrophy (Fr) (Charm Spirit {Ire}), a 2-year-old colt by Roaring Lion and a yearling colt by Calyx (GB).

Job Done For Erevann On Return

The Aga Khan's Erevann (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) was the key member of an intriguing Prix Comrade at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday as a son of the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix du Moulin heroine Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}). Labelled a TDN Rising Star on debut at Deauville in October, the homebred bay duly delivered to take his record to two-for-two in the mile conditions event which serves as a pointer to the Apr. 17 G3 Prix Fontainebleau and ultimately the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains. Settled behind the leading trio early, the Jean-Claude Rouget trainee was asked the question by Christophe Soumillon approaching two out and after edging ahead of the long-time leader Haya Zark (Fr) (Zarak {Fr}) with 100 metres remaining asserted for a short-neck verdict, with the promising Blue Boat (GB) (Frankel {GB}) half a length away in third.

Almanzor’s Lassaut A New Rising Star In France

Riviera Equine & Haras d'Etreham's 3-year-old colt Lassaut (Fr) (Almanzor {Fr}) followed up a Dec. 12 debut third going 7 1/2 furlongs at Deauville with a taking one-length triumph upped to one mile at Chantilly coming back for his sophomore return in Wednesday's Prix de la Broutillerie. The Jean-Claude Rouget trainee, sent postward as the 16-5 second favourite, was the slowest of eight into stride and raced in rear through halfway. Easing to the outside for a clear passage soon after passing the quarter-mile marker, he came under urging approaching the eighth pole and quickened smartly in the closing stages to comfortably outpoint Listed Prix Herod third Tribalist (GB) (Farhh {GB}) nearing the line for a 'TDN Rising Star' tag.

Lassaut is the third of four foals and first scorer produced by an unraced half-sister to MGSW G2 Prix Robert Papin victor and G1 Prix Morny runner-up Family One (Fr) (Dubai Destination) and Listed Premio Eupili second Modern Family (Fr) (Excellent Art {GB}). He is kin to a 2-year-old filly by Wootton Bassett (GB) and hails from the family of MG1SW sire Lethal Force (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}). Dubawi’s Erevann A New Rising Star At Deauville

From the mud and the murk of a storm-hit Deauville on Thursday emerged the latest TDN Rising Star as The Aga Khan's Erevann (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) strutted his stuff in the card's opening Prix de Saint-Desir for unraced juveniles. A son of the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix du Moulin heroine Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) racing for the Jean-Claude Rouget stable, the April-foaled bay was patiently ridden by Christophe Soumillon towards the rear early. Making smooth headway in the straight, the 41-10 second favourite was shaken up to challenge at the furlong marker and did it all under mild handling in the closing stages to score stress-free by 3/4-of-a-length from Lev (GB) (Lope de Vega {Ire}). That Pia and Joakim Brandt-trained half-sister to the G3 Prix Sigy-winning sire Fas (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) in turn had 1 1/2 lengths to spare over Etatique (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) in third as the conditions took their toll on most.

Erevann, who is the 18th TDN Rising Star for his sire, is the second of three foals and first scorer out of the high-class miler, who is a half-sister to the Listed Dusseldorf Preis winner Elennga (Fr) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) and to the dam of the dual listed-placed Ebony (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}). A daughter of the G3 Prix Vanteaux runner-up Elva (Ire) (King's Best), her filly foal is by Kitten's Joy.
