TDN Rising Star Erevann Triumphs In The Daniel Wildenstein

In the headlines for an infamous moment of pure madness on Friday afternoon, jockey Christophe Soumillon returned to the winner's enclosure aboard His Highness The Aga Khan's Erevann (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}–Ervedya {Fr}, by Siyouni {Fr}) after winning Saturday's G2 Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein at ParisLongchamp. The 'TDN Rising Star', who had earlier annexed June's G3 Prix Paul de Moussac at Chantilly, relinquished his perfect record when beaten two necks in the Aug. 14 G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville when last seen and lined up as the 7-5 pick for this one-mile test. Settled off the pace in rear until taking closer order along the false straight, he came under pressure racing alone against the far-side rail approaching the two pole and kept on strongly once taking control with 350 metres remaining to hold the late rattle of 2019 and 2020 winner The Revenant (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) by 1 1/2 lengths.

“That was the expected outcome, but you prefer when they confirm your expectations on the track,” said trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. “We had no doubt he would handle the [very soft] going and Christophe Soumillon did well to go for the inside rail. He quickened nicely, he is a very good horse and should be a grand horse next year. We won't see him again this season and [the G1 Queen Anne S. at] Royal Ascot will be his first major target next year.”

Erevann is the second of four foals and lone scorer out of G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix du Moulin heroine Ervedya (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}). His dam is a half-sister to Listed Dusseldorf Preis victrix Elennga (Fr) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) and to the dam of the dual stakes-placed Ebony (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}). The April-foaled homebred bay, whose second dam is G3 Prix Vanteaux runner-up Elva (Ire) (King's Best), hails from the family which includes G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club hero Erdelistan (Fr) (Lashkari {GB}) and is half to a yearling filly by Kitten's Joy and a weanling filly by Lope De Vega (Ire).

Dubawi’s Kubrick Pounces For G3 Prix des Chenes Triumph

White Birch Farm's 2-year-old colt Kubrick (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}–Rosa Bonheur, by Mr. Greeley) backed up a July 24 debut second going seven furlongs at Dieppe with a breakthrough triumph at Deauville last month and continued on the upgrade by turning back a strong Irish challenge in Thursday's G3 Prix des Chenes at ParisLongchamp. The eventual winner employed patient tactics from flagfall and was settled sixth, at the tail of the field, through halfway. Making continued headway under pressure in the home straight, the 31-10 second favourite quickened to gain a slender advantage with 100 metres remaining and was ridden out in the dying embers to assert by a neck from Coolmore and Westerberg's hithero unbeaten Adelaide River (Ire) (Australia {GB}) for a first black-type success.

“He is a nice, uncomplicated horse, we like to see them finish the way he did and it is very promising for the future,” commented trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. “He is an easy horse to train, he is easy to ride and a real pleasure to deal with. He could be a horse for next year's French [2000] Guineas, but first we will try to run him in the [G1] Criterium International at Saint-Cloud if all is well with him.”

Kubrick, the seventh of eight foals, becomes the third scorer produced by Listed Prix de la Cochere runner-up Rosa Bonheur (Mr. Greeley), herself a daughter of G2 Prix Robert Papin victrix Rolly Polly (Ire) (Mukaddamah). The April-foaled homebred bay is a half-brother to GI Hollywood Derby, GI Shoemaker Mile and GI Maker's Mark Mile hero Raging Bull (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) and a yearling filly by No Nay Never.

Wootton Bassett Colt A New Rising Star At ParisLongchamp

Jean-Claude Rouget unveiled another TDN Rising Star at ParisLongchamp on Thursday as Nurlan Bizakov's Padishakh (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}–Penny Lane {Ger}, by Lord Of England {Ger}) scored with abundant promise in the Prix de Fontenoy over a mile for colts and gelding beginners. Anchored in fifth early by Cristian Demuro, the 100-30 second favourite tended to over-race but when asked to stretch two out found a 10.94 penultimate split to reach the Wertheimers' Speechman (Kingman {GB}) on the front end. Stretching away from the furlong pole, the bay hit the line strong with 2 1/2 lengths to spare over the eye-catching Juddmonte homebred Halfway Line (GB) (Zoffany {Ire}), with Speechman a further 1 1/4 lengths behind in third.

The winner, who cost €130,000 at the Arqana Deauville August Sale, is the third TDN Rising Star for his sire and hails from a strong German family. He is the second and currently last known foal out of Penny Lane, who was successful in the Listed Prix des Sablonnets and finished third in the G3 Prix Cleopatre. Her first foal, the 3-year-old filly Snap Ambush (Fr) by Wootton Bassett's son Almanzor (Fr) who was a €250,000 Arqana Deauville Select Sale graduate tragically broke down when looking in control of a Chelmsford handicap last month and had to be euthanised.

The listed-placed second dam Peace Time (Ger) (Surumu {Ger}) proved prolific at producing black-type performers, with five to boast of including Penny Lane. They are Lord Of England's G1 Preis der Diana heroine Palmas (Ger), the dual group 3 winner Peace Royale (Ger) (Sholokhov {Ire}), the G3 Fahrhofer Stutenpreis scorer Peaceful Love (Ger) (Dashing Blade {GB}) and the G2 Park Hill S. runner-up Phiz (Ger) (Galileo {Ire}). Peace Royale went on to produce the black-type winners Peace In Motion (Hat Trick {Jpn}) and Peace Society (Iffraaj {GB}), while Peaceful Love threw the G3 Prix la Force scorer Pao Alto (Fr) (Intello {Ger}) and Phiz the G2 Dubai Gold Cup-placed Al Madhar (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}). Another of her daughters Peace of Glory (Ger) also by Sholokhov was responsible for Peaches (Ger), a further Lord Of England who captured the Listed Winterkonigin Trial, and the G3 Zukunftsrennen third Peace Of Paris (Ger) (Helmet {Aus}).

Invincible Spirit Colt Earns TDN Rising Star Tag At Deauville

Fresh from the high of Al Hakeem (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}) annexing Monday's G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville, the in-form team of Al Shaqab Racing, Jean-Claude Rouget and Cristian Demuro was back in the winner's circle once more after the hitherto untried 2-year-old colt Beylerbeyi (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}–Gherdaiya {GB}, by Shamardal) unleashed a 'TDN Rising Star' performance in Tuesday's Prix de Vernon over 6 1/2 furlongs at the Normandy venue. Bowling along on the front end after a swift getaway, the 9-10 favourite held sway throughout and kept on powerfully under minimal coaxing once shaken up with 350 metres remaining to easily outpoint Piano Man (Fr) (Anodin {Ire}) by an impressive 2 1/2 lengths.

“He wasn't easy at the gates beforehand, but was very professional during the race itself,” said winning rider Cristian Demuro. “He has a lovely, huge action and quickens well. He will stay further and there's no doubt in my mind that he can go up in class.”

Beylerbeyi is the third foal and winner out of G3 Prix d'Aumale third Gherdaiya (GB) (Shamardal), herself a full-sister to G3 Prix des Chenes, G3 Diomed S. and G3 Earl of Sefton S.-winning sire French Navy (GB). His dam is also kin to G3 Sovereign S. victor Sea Lord (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}). The March-foaled homebred bay, who hails from the family of dual Grade I-winning sire Private Account (Damascus) and GI Beldame S. heroine Dance Number (Northern Dancer), is a half-brother to this term's Listed Derby du Midi runner-up Subahiyah (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}) and a weanling colt by Le Havre (Ire).
