In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this weekend running at Tokyo and Hanshin Racecourses. The 3-year-old fillies' Classics concluded with last Sunday's running of the G1 Shuka Sho and the colts' division finishes up this weekend with the running of the G1 Kikuka Sho, the Japanese St. Leger over a mile and seven furlongs at Hanshin:

The chestnut is out of a half-sister to Canadian Horse of the Year Peaks and Valleys (Mt. Livermore) and the late Alternate (Seattle Slew), the dam of GISW Higher Power (Medaglia d'Oro) and MGSW 'TDN Rising Star' Alternation (Distorted Humor), who passed away at Pin Oak Stud Oct. 15. Godolphin is also represented by its homebred FROST CITY (c, 2, Frosted–Texas Twirl, by Hard Spun), the first foal out of an unraced half-sister to MGSW & MGISP Cowboy Cal (Giant's Causeway). JASPER ROYAL (c, 2, Violence–Sumthingtotalkabt, by Mutakddim) is the latest to make the races for his now 19-year-old dam, whose notable produce include GSW and GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint runner-up Lady Shipman (Midshipman), the dam of Golden Pal (Uncle Mo), who will be favored to repeat in the Turf Sprint at Keeneland in 16 days' time; and MSP Just Talkin (Midshipman). Jasper Royal cost trainer Hideyuki Mori $140,000 after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at this year's OBS March Sale. B-SF Bloodstock (KY)

JUZCAR (c, 2, American Pharoah–Blue Bahia, by Wildcat Heir) is a third-generation product for this breeder, who raced Blue Bahia to a pair of stakes victories and better than $317,000 before she produced this first foal. Stars on Earth Goes For Triple Crown in Shuka Sho

Already the winner of the G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1000 Guineas) going the metric mile and the G1 Yushun Himba over 2400 metres, Shadai Race Horse Co.'s Stars on Earth (Jpn) (Duramente {Jpn}) faces a date with destiny over the Hanshin turf course Sunday as she looks to become the seventh horse to complete the Filly Triple Crown in the G1 Shuka Sho (2000m) at Hanshin Racecourse.

Produced by a daughter of the very classy American champion and six-times Group 1/Grade I winner Stacelita (Fr) (Monsun {Ger})–the dam of 2017 Japanese Oaks heroine Soul Stirring (Jpn) (Frankel {GB})–Stars on Earth was runner-up to Lilac (Jpn) (Orfevre {Jpn}) in the G3 Fairy S. in January and filled the same spot behind Presage Lift (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}) in the G3 Queen Cup at Tokyo before just getting the better of Water Navillera (Jpn) (Silver State {Jpn}) in the Oka Sho. She makes her first start since besting Stunning Rose (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}) at a juicy 11-2 in the Yushun Himba May 22. The latter has since flattered the Oaks form with a defeat of Sound Vivace (Jpn) (Duramente {Jpn}) in the G3 Shion S. Sept. 10.

“She has filled out a bit and is maturing nicely,” said trainer Mizuki Takayanagi. “Hanshin is a tighter track compared to Tokyo, so I'm hoping she'll get a smooth trip. I will leave that up to the jockey [Christophe Lemaire]. All eyes are on her and I'm feeling the pressure. She is extremely talented and has claimed two Grade 1s. I'm hoping she can land another.”

Namur (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}) had Stars on Earth behind in a 1-win class conditions test back in November and won the G2 Tulip Sho Mar. 5 before finishing a disappointing 10th at skinny odds in the Oka Sho. She was an improved third in the Oaks and might find Sunday's trip to her liking.

Sheikh Fahad's Art House (Jpn) (Screen Hero {Jpn}) looks the up-and-comer in the field. A listed winner over course and distance in April, she was allowed to take her chance in the Oaks at just career start number four and was beaten 6 1/4 lengths into seventh. Given a freshen-up thereafter, the homebred validated 17-10 favoritism in the G2 Rose S. Sept. 18, covering the mile and a quarter in a slick 1:58.50.

The $625,000 Keeneland September yearling is also a half-brother to SW Anytime Magic (Fusaichi Pegasus) and to MSW Uptown Twirl (Twirling Candy), whose son Presidential (Pioneerof the Nile) just missed in this year's Texas Derby. Golden Mic's yearling full-brother fetched $575,000 from Maverick Racing and Siena Farm at the just-concluded September Sale. Red Khafra, who was bought back on a bid of $245,000 at KEESEP last year, counts fellow GI Ballerina S. heroine Spinning Round (Dixieland Band) as his third dam. The grey switches to the dirt for this and has a license to appreciate the change, as the filly is a half-sister to Awardee (Jungle Pocket {Jpn}), twice a winner and Group 3 level and twice Group 1-placed on the surface; five-time dirt stakes scorer Amour Briller (Smart Strike); and a close relative of G2 UAE Derby hero and GI Belmont S. placegetter Lani (Tapit). CELADONITE (JPN) (f, 2, Mendelssohn–Celadon, by Gold Halo {Jpn}) is the first Japanese-foaled produce for her well-traveled dam, whose best produce to date was the very talented Copano Kicking (Spring At Last), a three-time Group 3 winner in Japan and a veteran of three starts overseas, including a thrilling victory in the Riyadh Dirt Sprint in 2021. A sound fourth in defense of that title this past February, he was injured in the days leading up to this year's G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen and was retired. Celadon was sent to India in 2016 and produced two winners from as many foals in that country, then returned to the U.S. in 2019 where she was covered by this sire and subsequently exported to Japan. Kensington was purchased for $130,000 with this foal in utero at the 2019 Keeneland November Sale, was shipped to Japan and produced this chestnut colt on St. Patrick's Day 2020. Raijin was offered at the 2021 JRHA Select Sale, where he was hammered down for the equivalent of $245,095. B-Yuki Dendo

9th-NKY, ¥30,400,000 ($213k), Allowance, 2yo, 1200mT
FROM DUSK (c, 2, Bolt d'Oro–Foolish Cause, by Giant's Causeway) may not have been at his very best over a yielding turf course on Kokura debut Sept. 3, but managed to tough it out for a 3/4-length victory (video, SC 6). The April foal, a half-brother to SW Foolish Humor (Distorted Humor), is out of a half-sister to the late MGISW Get Stormy (Stormy Atlantic) and fetched $900,000 from trainer Hideyuki Mori at this year's OBS March Sale after making $200,000 as a Keeneland September yearling last fall.
