Mare in Foal to Stradivarius Added to Thoroughbid Sale

Wildcard additions to ThoroughBid's October Sale catalogue include three-time bumper winner and Grade 2-placed Shearling (GB) (Rail Link {GB}-Casual {GB}, by Nayef), in-foal to Stradivarius. Also listed placed on the Flat, the 10-year-old mare, offered as Lot 43, is a half-sister to G1 Australian Cup winner Harlem (GB) (Champs Elysees), and is the first mare in-foal to Stradivarius to be listed for sale in a public auction.

Also added as a wildcard is the Sophie Leech-trained Maillot Vert (GB) (Dunaden {Fr}-Santoria {Fr}, by Limnos {Jpn}), Lot 14, who has placed on all three starts to date; two bumpers and a conditions hurdle at Fontainebleau. The 4-year-old gelding is a half-brother to three winners.

CEO of ThoroughBid, James Richardson, said: “The well-subscribed October Sale has received some exciting wildcard additions this week and we are delighted to be the first auction house to list a mare in-foal to the mighty Stradivarius.

“Shearling was a very useful racehorse during her own career and future buyers of Stradivarius' progeny are eagerly awaiting their first appearances at the sales and on the racecourse, so we expect this lot to attract plenty of attention.”

Share in Royal Ascot-bound Thunderbear Sells for £75,000 via Thoroughbid

A 50% share in Royal Ascot G3 Jersey S. probable Thunderbear (Ire) (Kodi Bear {Ire}), most recently fourth in the G3 Goffs Lacken S. at Nass on May 21, was sold for £75,000 through ThoroughBid on Thursday. City Bloodstock was the high bidder and County Meath-based trainer Jack Davison retained his 50% share in the 3-year-old gelding,

“I think it's a fair price and, at that money, it's makes a lot of sense for the new partner too,” Davison said. “They've now got a significant share in a good, progressive horse who's got plenty of big days ahead of him.

“He's bouncing at the moment! I think the horse will run very well in Ascot and he'll give the new owner a lot of pleasure going forward. He is in great nick, but he's only a baby and there's plenty ahead of him.”

The Jersey is set to take place on Saturday, June 24.

“Selling a 50% share in a Royal Ascot runner a week before the meeting has been a great success, not least going for £75,000,” ThoroughBid CEO James Richardson said. “ThoroughBid has broken new ground with this sale; tailoring an online auction to fit the needs of a part-sale, and positioning on a specific date ahead of it's intended run at Royal Ascot hopefully shows how flexible we can be. It's a new and important string to our bow.”

Point-To-Point Debut Winner Tops ThoroughBid Spring Sale

Hypersonic Missile (Califet) went to trainer John McConnell for £34,000 at the ThoroughBid Spring Sale Thursday. The 4-year-old gelding, a Point-to-Point winner on debut, was consigned by Maddie Hand.

“With Irish Point-to-Points being so hard to buy out of, you have to go elsewhere,” said McConnell. “This is a nice horse who ticks the boxes and has plenty left in the tank. He could be anything and I'm glad to have found him in the Spring Sale.”

A total of 16 of 19 lots sold for an 84% clearance rate. Several of the pointers are eligible for ThoroughBid's popular £5,000 Point2Rules Bonus, including Hypersonic Missile.

“With Hypersonic Missile, we'll be trying to win first time out and will try him in a bumper,” added McConnell. “I haven't bought him for anyone in particular so, if anyone's interested, get in touch!”

Other notable horses sold in the Spring Sale included Irish pointer Moorefields, who sold to Tom Malone Bloodstock for £22,000 and two hurdlers, The Priests Leap and What an Ocean, who were bought by Aidan 'Mouse' O'Ryan.

CEO of ThoroughBid, James Richardson added, “We are delighted with the Spring Sale results and to have a clearance rate of over 80% is particularly pleasing. It's great to see both British and Irish pointers such as Moorefields and Hypersonic Missile selling so well to new connections, who are now in with a realistic chance of winning our £5,000 Point2Rules Bonus.”

“Having the likes of Tom Malone and Mouse O'Ryan involved in the online bidding battle today was good to see, and we wish them the best of luck with their new purchases.”

Mikimoto Tops ThoroughBid’s March Sale

Martin Keighley went to £46,000 to secure recent Hereford bumper winner Mikimoto (GB) (Scorpion {Ire}) (lot 40) through ThoroughBid's March Sale. Formerly trained by Henry Daly, the 4-year-old gelding will now head to Keighley's Condicote Stables.

“We had the second in the race that Mikimoto won at Hereford and we thought that he was a decent horse, so I was interested when I saw him in the sale,” Keighley said. “I think £46,000 is a more than fair price and being able to sit here in my office bidding made the whole process very easy. It's my first time using the platform and it was all very straightforward.

“Although he's only four, I believe he's not a backward horse at all and he'll probably go for another bumper again before going over hurdles next season.”

James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid, said, “We're really pleased with the sale of Mikimoto, who was last seen winning his bumper just five days ago. Being flexible in the bloodstock sales space is key and I know that both Henry Daly and Martin Keighley are very happy with the deal they've got.

“Having two of Jump racing's biggest yards in the shape of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott both selling with us is great to see, while it was also good to have Shark Hanlon back buying again.

“Ben Clarke, who purchased Cheltenham Festival-bound Elegant Escape (Ire) (Dubai Destination) through us last year, looks to have purchased a nice Walk In The Park filly for £30,000, so she could be one to keep an eye on and we'd like to wish him the best of luck once again.”
