Gulfstream Park: $450,000 Guaranteed Rainbow 6 Jackpot Saturday; Another Triple ForIrad Ortiz Jr.

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $450,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved Friday for the third racing day since Sunday's mandatory payout. Multiple tickets with five of six winners were each worth $16,064.30 Friday.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover into the first race of $3,235.62.

The jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 7-12, kicking off by a maiden special weight event for 3-year-olds, including Hall of Fame trainer Carl Nafzger's first starter since October 2019, Sensible Jim.

The $75,000 Silks Run, a five-furlong turf stakes carded as Race 11, will headline the Rainbow 6 sequence. Brian Lynch-trained Carotari, who was narrowly defeated in the Sam Houston Turf Sprint last time out, captured the Silks Run last year with a front-running performance.

Irad Ortiz Jr. closed in on the record for most wins by a jockey during a Championship Meet while notching his seventh straight multi-win day Friday at Gulfstream Park.

The defending two-time Championship Meet titlist rode three winners to up his win total to 131, just six winners behind the record of 137 set by Luis Saez in 2017-2018. Ortiz scored aboard aboard Lime ($2.20) in Race 1, Malibu Max ($3.20) in Race 5 and Septemberten ($13) in Race 8.

Ortiz has ridden 23 winners over the last seven programs while rapidly closing in on the record he missed equaling last season by just two winners.

WHO'S HOT: Luis Saez, a two-time Championship Meet champion who was narrowly edged by Ortiz the past two seasons, rode a pair of winners Friday, including Simply the Best ($2.20), who dead-heated with Lime in Race 1, and Blakenstein ($5.80) in Race 3.

Tyler Gaffalione also doubled, scoring with Nicholas Ross ($8.60) in Race 2 and Spend Benjamins ($31.20) in Race 9.

Gulfstream Park: Irad Ortiz Jr. On Record Pace, Rainbow 6 Jackpot Has $250,000 Guarantee

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $250,000 Thursday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved Wednesday for the first racing day since Sunday's mandatory payout. Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $51.34 Wednesday.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $4806.94 into the first race, a maiden claimer for fillies at six furlongs.

Hurricane Bertie (G3) Rescheduled to March 20
The $100,000 Hurricane Bertie (G3), for fillies and mares at 6 ½ furlongs originally scheduled for Saturday, will now be run Saturday, March 20 after it failed to fill.

“The Hurricane Bertie is an important race on the Gulfstream Park schedule,” said Gulfstream's Vice President of Racing Mike Lakow. “We're going to do our best to make it go next Saturday.”

WHO'S HOT: Defending two-time Championship Meet titlist Irad Ortiz Jr. added four more victories to his meet-leading total Wednesday. Ortiz, who had ridden 11 winners on the previous three programs at Gulfstream, kicked off Wednesday's program with victories aboard Breakthrough ($2.60) in Race 1, Bourbon Thunder ($6.60) in Race 2 and Isadorable Aida ($7) in Race 3 before scoring aboard Field Day ($) in Race 6 and Coworth Park ($10.60) in Race 7.

Ortiz has ridden 126 winners during the Championship Meet, just 11 wins behind the record of 137, set by Luis Saez during the 2017-2018 meet.

Gulfstream Park: Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Has Mandatory Payout, $5 Million Pool Projected

A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot pool is scheduled for Sunday's program at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The carryover jackpot pool heading into Sunday's Rainbow 6 wagering will be $873,676.33. The pool is expected to swell to approximately $5 million at the close of betting Sunday.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved Saturday for the 10th straight racing day since a lucky bettor broke the jackpot for $712,824.06 Feb. 22. Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $487.16 Saturday.

Sunday's Rainbow 6 sequence, which will span Races 6-11, kicked off by a wide-open $16,000 maiden claiming race with a full field of older fillies and mares. In Race 7, Free to Fly, who will seek her third-straight victory, figures to be a popular 'single' in the six-furlong $6,250 claiming race for older fillies and mares. Race 8, a five-furlong dash for $16,000 claiming fillies and mares on turf will likely pose a much sterner test for handicappers.

A 6 ½-furlong optional claiming allowance for older fillies and mares in Race 9 will kick of the second half of the Rainbow 6 sequence. Bimini, who was claiming out of a third-place finish behind Free to Fly last time out, will make her first start for solid off-the-claim trainer Gilberto Zerpa.

A full field of older horses will compete in Race 10, a five-furlong optional claiming allowance on turf. Brendan Walsh-trained Lontano and Wesley Ward-trained Zanno, both of whom are coming off victories against state-breds, will face open company in the same entry-level condition Sunday.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will be wrapped up by a six-furlong maiden special weight race for 3-year-olds featuring first-time starters trained by Chad Brown, Bill Mott, Brad Cox, Saffie Joseph Jr., and Ian Wilkes.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. However, on mandatory-payout days, the entire pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

WHO'S HOT: Jose Ortiz had the hat trick, winning two of Gulfstream's three stakes races. Ortiz won aboard A Bit of Both ($8.80) in the Captiva Island and Farsighted ($12.20) in the The Any Limit. He also won Race 2 with Dream Friend ($4). Miguel Vasquez doubled aboard Stunning Princess ($8.80) in Race 1 and Easy Stride ($12.80) in Race 7. Paco Lopez doubled aboard Ournationonparade ($4.80) in Race 3 and Lavi ($4.80) in Race 5.

$1 Million Guarantee In Thursday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot At Gulfstream

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $1 million Thursday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved Wednesday for the seventh straight racing day since a lucky bettor broke the jackpot for $712,824.06 Feb. 22. Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $12,605.20 Wednesday.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $3,539.30 in Thursday's first race, a maiden claiming event at five furlongs on the turf that has drawn a field of 11 fillies and mares.

First race post is 1:10 p.m.

WHO'S HOT: Tyler Gaffalione doubled, scoring aboard Super Leggera ($7.30) in Race 1 and Valletta ($6.60) in Race 9. Paco Lopez also rode a pair of winners, visiting the winner's circle with Dropped Anchor ($5.60) in Race 2 and What's Inside ($9) in Race 8.
