ITBA Education Programme Begins On May 9

The 2022 ITBA Educational Programme begins on May 9 with the Ask The Expert Series. This virtual E-Passport System/Digital Platform Demonstration Workshop will be hosted by Weatherbys' General Manager, Sharon O'Regan from 7-8 p.m. The full May calendar is as follows, with all programmes held from 7-8 p.m. local time:

  • Stud Farm Biosecurity Workshop, May 11, in person at ITBA HQ, Head of Environment & Nutrition Alan Creighton, Irish Equine Centre will speak
  • Use of Probiotics in Equines Workshop, May 18, virtual programme from Kerrie Kavanagh, Senior Microbiologist, Irish Equine Centre
  • E-Passport System / Digital Platform Demonstration Workshop, May 23, virtual programme from Weatherbys' General Manager, Sharon O'Regan
  • Parasite Control Workshop, May 25, virtual programme from Head of Microbiology, Dr. James Gibbons, Irish Equine Centre

2022 ITBA Educational Programme To Launch In May

The 2022 Irish Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Educational programme is being finalised following the confirmation that Ireland's Department of Agriculture will pledge to support and co-fund the initiative. The programme will run from May to December.

The ITBA will partner with the Irish Equine Centre, HRI's Equuip and Weatherbys, among others, to oversee the programme. In addition, the ITBA will work closely with industry experts as well as industry stakeholders to deliver a wide and diverse programme of topics through the four pillars of its educational programme: Ask The Experts, Summer Series, Preparation Series and Autumn/Winter Series. Some of the subjects to be offered include:

  • Benefits of the Weatherbys E-Passport (New equine digital lifetime document)
  • Educational Supports and Pathways
  • Equine Anatomy & Physiology
  • Equine Biosecurity
  • Equine Colic and Gut Health
  • Equine First Aid
  • Health & Safety
  • Parasite Control
  • Stud Farm Biosecurity
  • Use of Probiotics in Equines
  • Foal Sales Preparation
  • Yearling Sales Preparation
  • Breeding Season Preparation

Whenever possible, the lectures and workshops will be either QQI or Veterinary Council of Ireland accredited.

ITBA's Kerry Ryan said, “We are delighted to be commencing the roll out of our 2022 suite of educational offerings, the first taking place in early May, details of which will be announced in the coming days, so stay tuned. We are looking forward to teaming up with Weatherbys to highlight and promote the new digital passport system.”

ITBA NH Seminar Well Attended

The challenges and opportunities facing the Irish breeding and racing sector took centre stage at the ITBA National Hunt Seminar on Apr. 4. Insights and a balanced debate on the current state of the sector were held between panelists Frank Motherway, Jane Mangan, Kevin Blake, Richard Pugh, Ruby Walsh and MC David Jennings. ITBA National Breeding and Racing Awards Scheduled For Feb. 27

The 2021 Irish Thoroughbred Breeders' Association National Breeding & Racing Awards will be held on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022. In person for the first time in two years due to the covid pandemic at The Heritage in County Laois, the awards will be live streamed from 10 p.m. local time and are available to view on the ITBA's website.
