Italy’s SGA Sale Catalogue Features 117 Yearlings

A total of 117 yearlings will go under the hammer at the SGA Yearling Sale in Milan on Sept. 9.

Past graduates of the sale include the undefeated G3 Premio Regina Elena Italian 1000 Guineas and G2 Oaks d'Italia heroine Shavasana (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}), who currently races in the colours of Katsumi Yoshida.

The catalogue includes lot 9, a filly by Almanzor (Fr), who just sired Thursday's G3 Bahrain Trophy S. hero Castle Way (GB); as well as lot 22, a colt by Derby winner Australia (GB). Darley's Blue Point (Ire), who leads all European first-season sires with 16 winners, is represented by a filly out of Victoria Regina (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) (lot 36); and there are also a pair of yearlings by Group 1 sire Cracksman (GB); and one by Shavasana's sire Gleneagles in lot 8, a colt out of Calma Apparente (GB) (Rainbow Quest).

Kodiac (GB) is the sire of a lot 16, a daughter of Edifice (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}), herself a half-sister to group winners Dimension (GB) (Medicean {GB}) and Spacious (GB) (Nayef); and lot 7 is by New Bay (GB) from the family of G1 Irish Oaks winner Sea Of Class (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}). The catalogue also features lot 14, a filly by Sea The Stars (Ire) who is a half-sister to a pair of stakes winners including Group 3 winner Sweet Gentle Kiss (Ire) (Henrythenavigator); and lot 23 is a son of Zarak (Fr) from the family of GI Fountain of Youth S. hero and sire Trust N Luck.

Churchill Filly Leads The Way At The SGA Yearling Sale

A filly by Churchill (Ire) out of the dual listed-placed Rabiosa Fiore (GB) (Sakhee's Secret {GB}) emerged as the €200,000 top lot during Saturday's SGA Yearling Sale in Milan. Consigned by Razza Vedano, the Mar. 6 foal (lot 28), named Rinnovati (Ity), is a half-sister to the two-time stakes winner Amalaura (Ire) (Raven's Pass). Another half-sister, the Saxon Warrior (Jpn) filly Rage Of Bamby (Ire) graduated at Leicester on Sept. 6. Marco Bozzi was in action for the relative of French Classic heroine East Of The Moon (Private Account).

Bozzi also struck for seven other lots on Saturday, shelling out €90,000 for another Vedano draftee in lot 25, a son of Sea The Stars (Ire) out of Listed Premio Terme di Merano heroine Orange Sun (GB) (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}). That sire had topped the 2021 edition of the sale with a €120,000 colt. Originally a 30,000gns Tatteralls December foal, the colt is a half-brother to a pair of winners. Third dam Field Of Hope (Ire) (Selkirk)'s best day in the sun was a victory in the 1999 G1 Prix de la Foret.

Also from Vedano was lot 15, the Zoffany (Ire) colt Interstellar (Ity), out of the Group 3-placed Irene Watts (GB) (Miswaki Tern), who hammered for €100,000 to Micchiche' Gaetano. He is a half-brother to Il Grande Gatsby (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}), who has won at the listed level in Italy and ran third in the G3 Premio Parioli.

The sale got off to a fast start with lot 4, a colt by Holy Roman Emperor (Ire) out of Listed Criterium Femminile victress Biz Bar (GB) (Tobougg {GB}), making €85,000 from Antonio Caracciolo. The bay's sire was also responsible for the smart G2 Clipper Logistics Boomerang Mile hero Jadoomi (Fr) in Ireland on Saturday. From the Allevamento Le.Gi. consignment, the colt is a half-brother to six black-type horses, anchored by G1 Gran Premio di Milano scorer Biz The Nurse (Ire) (Oratorio {Ire}), and the group winners Misterious Boy (Ire) (Arcano {Ire}) and Biz Power (Ire) (Power {GB}).

Another Coolmore sire was in the limelight shortly thereafter, as lot 12, a Le.Gi.-consigned filly by Wootton Bassett (GB) named Snow Roses (Ity) caught the eye of Powerstown Stud at €70,000. She had passed through the Arqana December ring for €85,000 as a foal. Her dam was twice stakes-placed, and is a half-sister to group winners Voice Of Love (Ire) (Poet's Voice {GB}) and Time Chant (GB) (War Chant).

Le.Gi. was also the consignor on record for lot 32, a Gleneagles (Ire) filly, who made €76,000 on the bid of Immobiliare Casa Paola. She had been a €30,000 Goffs November buyback last year. The daughter of Sopran Enery (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) is a half-sister to the G2 Premio Oaks d'Italia winner Auyantepui (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), while under the G3 Italian 1000 Guineas-winning second dam Sopran Londa (Ire) (Danehill) is the G1 Italian Derby hero Cima De Triomphe (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) among others.

Razza del Sole offered Milano City (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}) (lot 22) on Saturday, and Valfredo Valiani snapped up the son of dual listed winner Mujadil Lachy (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) for €75,000. His well-related dam is a half-sister to a trio of stakes winners led by G3 Premio Tudini and G3 Premio Omenoni scorer Titus Shadow (Ire) (Titus Livius {Fr}).

From a catalogue of 158, 135 yearlings went through the ring, with 92 (68.1%) finding new homes for a gross of €1,852,500. The average increased to €20,136 (+7.4%), however the median dipped 16.7% to €10,000.

Churchill Filly Leads SGA Yearling Sale

Italy’s Societa Gestione Aste held its one-day select yearling sale in Milan on Saturday, with two fillies bringing six figures. A total of 147 youngsters were catalogued with 130 offered after outs, and 84 of those sold for a clearance rate of 64.6% and an aggregate of €1,651,000. The average was €19,655, and the median €11,000. Predictably given the economic climate, figures took a hit from 2019 when 83 yearlings grossed €2,423,000. The average and median had both experienced huge jumps last year to €29,193 and €18,000, respectively.

A first-crop daughter of Churchill (Ire) led the way at €120,000. Lot 74 was offered by Razza del Velino and purchased by Alfalasi Mohamed Saeed Ali. She is a half to a pair of local stakes winners in Sweet Gentle Kiss (Ire) (Henrythenavigator) and Sunset Key (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}), and the dam herself was third in the G3 Italian 1000 Guineas.

Churchill’s Coolmore barnmate Australia (GB) has been experiencing a purple patch as of late, including a new Group 3 winner in Epona Plays (Ire) at Gowran Park on Saturday, and leading local owners Scuderia Incolinx paid €100,000 for a filly by the son of Galileo (lot 14) early in the sale. She is likewise a half to two stakes winners: the G3 Premio Elena e Sergio Cumani scorer Candy Store (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) and Group 3 winner The Conqueror (Ire) (Excelebration {Ire}) and out of the listed-placed March Madness (GB) (Noverre). Lot 14 was also offered by Razza Del Velino.

The highest-priced colt of the sale was Allevamento Le.Gi.’s Kodiac (GB) half-brother to this year’s G3 Premio Parioli (Italian 2000 Guineas) winner Cima Emergency (Ire) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}) lot 89. He was bought by Andrea Marcialis for €90,000. Another young Coolmore sire to feature was No Nay Never; he had a half-brother to listed winner Clockwinder (Ire) (Intikhab) (lot 59) sell to trainer Alduino Botti for €77,000.
