Irish Trainers to Stage Open Mornings

Nineteen racing yards in Ireland will be opening their doors to the public during a series of open mornings between May and September.

The initiative backed by Horse Racing Ireland Ownership will allow racing fans and those interested in racehorse ownership access to a range of stables across the country, including those of Tracey Collins and Michael Halford on the Curragh, John McConnell, Gordon Elliott and Ross O'Sullivan.

The trainer open mornings are free to attend and follow last year's launch, which saw 17 trainers welcome more than 3,000 visitors. Those interested in attending are asked to register in advance.

We are looking forward to welcoming owners and racing fans to yards across the country over the coming months,” said HRI Ownership Manager Amber O'Grady. “We were delighted with the success of the 2022 open mornings. The post-event survey saw 78% of visitors saying they were interested in ownership and 56% of trainers signed a new owner off the back of an open morning. It is a wonderful opportunity for trainers to showcase their facilities and horses. It also gives the public a chance to meet trainers in a relaxed environment and get all the information they need before committing to ownership.”

The open mornings will include a tour of the yard and its facilities, and visitors will be able to watch the horses on the gallops as well as meeting the trainers and teams at the yards. The first of these will be held in Co Limerick with Charles Byrnes on May 6. For a full list of participating trainers and to register visit www.racehorseownership.ie/openmorning.

Irish Training Yards Open to Public

In conjunction with racehorse trainers throughout Ireland, Horse Racing Ireland Ownership will offer racing fans and those interested in racehorse ownership the opportunity to go behind the scenes and experience a working training yard.  The trainer open mornings will run nationwide from July to October and are free to attend. So far, 20 trainers from 10 different counties are taking  part. The open mornings will include a tour of their chosen yard and its facilities, watch the racehorses on the gallop, meet the team that look after the horses and a Q&A with the trainer in question.

Included among participating trainers are John 'Shark' Hanlon's yard in Bagnelstown on the Carlow/Kilkenny border on Saturday, July 16. John O'Donoghue, Kildare, Tom Gibney, Meath and Noel Kelly, Co. Derry also have dates confirmed. Gordon Elliott, Jessica Harrington, Eric McNamara, Gavin Cromwell, Ross O'Sullivan, Edward O'Grady and Sarah Dawson are among the other trainers taking part with more to be added in the coming weeks. The tours will span July through October.
