Saxon Warrior Filly Sets Record at Goresbridge Sale

A filly from the first crop of dual Group 1 winner Saxon Warrior (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) out of Causeway Queen (Ire) (Giant's Causeway) was hammered down to Stephen Hillen and Kevin Ryan for €520,000 to shoot to the head of the class at Thursday's Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale.

The final price set a new record for the Goresbridge Sale, easily surpassing the €410,000 set at last year's event. The March-foaled chestnut was consigned to the auction by Greenhills Farm as lot 151 and is out of an unraced daughter of G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Ask For the Moon (Fr) (Dr Fong), whose produce include G3 Dee S. winner and G1 Investec Derby third Astrology (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and the listed-winning Sandro Botticelli (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

“It is fantastic, she is a gorgeous filly, cracking filly with a lovely pedigree and she just filled the eye for everyone,” said a delighted Katie Walsh, who previously topped the Goresbridge Sale in 2018 with the Frankel filly East, also bought by Hillen.

“I knew coming here that she was going to clock well, I had a fair idea that she is a tasty filly–all she had done is please me since I have had her. She has always been a straightforward filly with a great galloping stride and a great attitude.”

The cross of Saxon Warrior's legendary late sire over Giant's Causeway dams has resulted in the likes of Beauty Parlour, Barocci and Deep Jewelry.

MyRacehorse Launches In The UK And Ireland With Juvenile Trio

MyRacehorse, a U.S.-based racehorse micro-share ownership operator, is expanding to the UK and Ireland with three 2-year-olds, including a 450,000gns Dubawi (Ire) colt purchased out of the Tattersalls October Book 1 Yearling Sale. Out of J Wonder (Footstepsinthesand {GB}), he is trained by Andrew Balding. John and Thady Gosden have a $300,000 Keeneland September filly by Mendelssohn for the GI Kentucky Derby/GI Breeders' Cup Classic-winning organisation. The trio is rounded out by a Zoffany (Ire) filly in the yard of Joseph O'Brien. She was purchased for €170,000 at Goffs Orby.

MyRacehorse has over 100 horses in training in America and over 50,000 registered users. They added another location, Australia, in June of 2021, and currently have 36 horses there and over 12,000 owners Down Under. Their aim is to make racehorse ownership available to any casual fan by way of fractional shares. In most cases, shares for their UK/Ireland venture will be priced under £200. For more information, please visit MyRacehorse's website.

Jules Pittam, UK Managing Partner of MyRacehorse, said, “We want to give people the opportunity to experience elite ownership at an affordable price and encourage new owners into the sport. Our goal is to increase engagement with the industry overall by providing owners unrivaled behind-the-scenes access and hopefully the opportunity to enjoy some of the best moments in sport as they tread the path to glory.

“The tide is turning on racehorse ownership, and the sport is becoming more reliant on shared ownership and syndicates–something we at MyRacehorse are passionate about. We want to offer this unique opportunity to racing fans in both the UK and Ireland and give them the chance to join our 70,000 strong global community.

“Unlike other ownership models, we offer contractual racing and breeding equity; so when our horses win big, so do our owners.”

Ireland Nab Marquand in Racing League Draft

Tom Marquand will represent Ireland in Racing League 2022 having been the first pick at this morning's jockey draft at Doncaster Racecourse. A total of 108 jockeys signed up for the inaugural draft, with the seven team managers each selecting seven riders in a pre-agreed order to ensure a fair allocation.

Ireland team manager Kevin Blake said, “I am really happy. Six out of the seven were selections I thought I might get and the exception to that I am very happy with. It is a nice mix of British-based and Irish-based jockeys, with some of the top lads in Ireland keen to support the concept. Gavin Ryan and Dylan Browne McMonagle rode in the Racing League last year and were very keen to be involved again, as was Billy Lee. It will be great to get them over alongside the British-based jockeys headed by Tom Marquand, who was obviously the number one pick.”

Each region will have at least one Group 1-winning rider, with notable picks including Frankie Dettori for Wales and The West, Jamie Spencer for The North and last year's leading jockey Jack Mitchell for The East.

Added Rupert Bell, team manager for The East, “That was great fun to do. I am delighted as I got most of what I wanted. I kicked off with Jack Mitchell as he was the star of the show last year, helping team talkSPORT win. We have Hayley Turner, Grace McEntee and Luke Morris–some very reliable jockeys who will do our team proud.”
