Winchell Wins Out On First Foal From ‘TDN Rising Star’ Guarana

The first foal out of 'TDN Rising Star' Guarana (Ghostzapper)–a colt by the ever-present Into Mischief–had interest from all corners of the Keeneland sales pavilion and was ultimately hammered down to Ron Winchell's Winchell Thoroughbreds for $1.4 million. Winner of the one-mile GI  Acorn S. and GI CCA Oaks going nine panels at three, Guarana picked up where she left off at four, winning the GI Madison S. over seven-eighths of a mile. Hill 'n' Dale consigned and ultimately purchased Guarana for $4.4 million with the Into Mischief colt in utero at Fasig-Tipton November in 2021. Hill 'n' Dale also consigned hip 145, who was bred in partnership with Matt Dorman.

Into Mischief Filly, Uncle Mo Colt Energize Opening Session at Keeneland

The opening session of the Keeneland September Sale picked up considerable steam at its midway stage when a filly by Into Mischief and a colt by Uncle Mo made seven-figure prices back-to-back. The Gainesway-consigned hip 92 is a daughter of Grade III winner Delightful Joy (Tapit), a $700,000 purchase by International Equities Holding at Keeneland January in 2017 and also the dam of Window Shopping (American Pharoah), winner of this year's GIII Summertime Oaks for Perry and Ramona Bass and Richard Mandella. Hip 92 was hammered down to Sheikha Hissa's Shadwell Racing for $2.3 million. Next in the ring was hip 94, an Uncle Mo colt out of Diva Delite (Repent) consigned by Hunter Valley Farm. The colt is not only a half-brother to champion and multi-millionairess Midnight Bisou (Midnight Lute), but also of the MGISP Verifying (Justify). That $775,000 KEESEP grad also won this year's GIII Indiana Derby. When the dust settled, the partnership of West Point Thoroughbreds, Woodford Thoroughbreds and Chuck Sonson were the successful bidders on hip 94 at $1.35 million. David Ingordo acted as agent.

Into Mischief Colt First To Seven Figures at Keeneland September

Robert Clay's Grandview Equine emerged victorious after a protracted bidding battle on the Gainesway-consigned hip 18, a colt by leading sire Into Mischief, who fetched $1.1 million in the early stages of Monday's opening session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Lexington. The Mar. 31 foal is the second out of 2017 GI Test S. heroine American Gal (Concord Point), who was first purchased by Don Alberto Corp. for $2.2 million at Fasig-Tipton November in 2017 before selling to Mandy Pope's Whisper Hill Farm in foal to Tapit for $3 million at the same event 12 months later. This is also the family of GI/G1SWs Seventh Street and Reynaldothewizard. An Into Mischief filly out of American Gal's dam American Story (Ghostzapper) made $575,000 from Nice Guys Stable as the very next horse through the ring.

LUDIQUE (c, 2, Into Mischief–Miss Besilu, by Medaglia d'Oro), whose dam was third in the GI Alabama S. and GI CCA Oaks in 2014 and was purchased for $2.2 million with this foal in utero at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton November Sale, is a half-brother to the dual Grade III-placed Gun It (Tapit). Miss Besilu , who topped the weanling section as part of the Ned Evans dispersal at Keeneland November in 2011 on Ben Leon's bid of $2.6 million, is a daughter of SW & GSP Quiet Dance (Quiet American), the dam of Horse of the Year Saint Liam (Saint Ballado); GISW sire Funtastic (More Than Ready); and GSW Quiet Giant (Giant's Causeway), the dam of the wildly successful sire and Horse of the Year Gun Runner (Candy Ride {Arg}). The MGSP third dam Here I Go (Mr. Prospector) was the dam of five winners from seven to the races including 2005 GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Summerly (Summer Squall). CIRCLE OF JOY (JPN) (f, 2, Constitution–Mirth, by Colonel John) is the first foal from her dam, all-the-way winner of the 2019 GI Rodeo Drive S. for Little Red Feather and Phil D'Amato and later purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for $1.05 million with this filly in utero at FTKNOV in 2020. Mirth is a half-sister to Grade II winner Vault (Jump Start) and Call Me Andy (Midshipman), twice stakes-placed at two this term. Third dam Orrefor (Our Native) produced some top Illinois-breds for Asiel Stables, including MSW/MGISP Copper State (Jump Start), MSW Bonita Meadow (Meadowlake) and the dam of fellow MSW Caruso (Cape Canaveral). ATARAYO (f, 2, Justify–Magic Fountain, by War Front) represents the first produce for her dam, who caused a 10-1 upset for Coolmore in the 2014 G1 Darley Irish Oaks. Third dam Cherry Hinton (GB) (Green Desert) was herself a daughter of the magnificent Urban Sea (Miswaki), the dam of the legendary Galileo (Ire), Sea The Stars (Ire), etc. Cherry Hinton's GI Belmont Oaks-winning daughter Athena (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) has accounted for Never Ending Story (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), victorious in this year's G3 Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial before finishing runner-up in this year's G1 Prix de Diane.
