Inspiral Faces 11 in the Coronation, But Homeless Songs Is Absent Due To Ground Concerns

Juvenile Group 1 winner Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) will lock horns with 11 rivals in the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot on Friday. Although the Cheveley Park homebred will face the winners of the G1 1000 Guineas in Cachet (Ire) (Aclaim {Ire}) and Mangoustine (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), victress of the French equivalent, G1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) will stay home. Connections' concerns over the quick ground ended her participation in the marquee event.

Besides the trio of European Group 1 winners, American runners Spendarella (Karakontie {Jpn}), who is undefeated and a dual graded winner, and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf heroine Pizza Bianca (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) will take part. Other signed on are the G1 Moyglare Stud S. winner Discoveries (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}), 1000 Guineas runner-up Prosperous Voyage (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}), group winner and G1 Cheveley Park S. third Sandrine (GB) (Bobby's Kitten) and Cheveley Park scorer Tenebrism (Caravaggio), among others.

Limiti Di Greccio And Inspiral To Miss Irish 1000 Guineas

Limiti Di Greccio (Ire) (Elzaam {Aus}) and Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), both of whom held prominent positions in the betting for Sunday's G1 Irish 1000 Guineas, have been ruled out of making their respective seasonal return in the Curragh Classic.

Paddy Twomey, who trains Limiti Di Greccio, told TDN Europe that his hugely exciting filly will be aimed at races in the autumn after she encountered “a small training problem” while connections of G1 winning 2-year-old Inspiral are charting a path towards the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot with their charge.

Inspiral failed to sparkle in a key gallop under Frankie Dettori on Saturday, after which, her joint-trainer John Gosden advised connections to skip the Irish 1000 Guineas and wait for Royal Ascot.

Speaking on Monday, Cheveley Park's Chris Richardson said, “She's not going to Ireland. John's recommendation is let's go straight to Royal Ascot for the Coronation Stakes.”

Inspiral, unbeaten in four starts as a 2-year-old, with that brilliant juvenile campaign culminating with G1 Fillies' Mile glory at Newmarket, was also ruled out of the 1,000 Guineas last month with Richardson explaining at the time that the filly had not been “100 per cent straightforward” in the spring.

Connections are now concentrating on having Inspiral in top shape ahead of the Royal meeting.

Richardson added, “Frankie had a sit on her on Saturday and just felt we needed a little bit more time, so we'll give her that and hopefully have her cherry-ripe and spot on for the Royal meeting.”

Time is also what Limiti Di Greccio needs, according to Twomey, who pointed to the G1 Matron Stakes in the autumn as being the new target for Martin Schwarz-owned filly.

Twomey said, “She picked up a minor training setback and is not ready to run at the Curragh on Sunday.”

He added, “The plan is to train her with a view towards the second half of the season where races like the Matron Stakes could be targeted.”

In the absence of Limiti Di Greccio and Inspiral, the Aidan O'Brien-trained Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Dermot Weld's Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}), herself having skipped Newmarket and more recently ParisLongchamp, are general 5-2 joint-favourites for the Irish 1000 Guineas.

Reach For The Moon Joins Heron S. Cast

The Queen's Reach For The Moon (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), who will not point to the G1 Cazoo Derby, has been entered in Thursday's Listed Coral Heron S. at Sandown instead. A runner for John and Thady Gosden, the colt won the G3 Solario S. as a juvenile. He will face his stablemate, Cheveley Park Stud's imposing Group 1 winner Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), in that contest.

Heron S. Next For Inspiral

Cartier Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}), who will miss the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas on May 1, will instead make her next start in the Listed Coral Heron S. at Sandown Park on May 19. Four-for-four at two including a victory in the G1 bet365 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket in October, Inspiral missed several days of training in the lead up to the Guineas. Royal Ascot's G1 Coronation S. in June is the long-term target for the Cheveley Park homebred.

John Gosden, who trains the filly with his son Thady, said, “In the case of Inspiral, all being well, she will run in the Heron S. as a prep for the Coronation S. at Royal Ascot.

“She missed those critical eight to 10 days of training during trials week here and from that point of view I couldn't run her at 80% as that wouldn't be very clever.

“It was a straightforward decision in the end not to run in the Guineas when you miss that period of training. You have got to be at full match fitness for a Guineas.

“You can't miss two critical bits of work and think you are going to be there so to that extent it was not a difficult decision. You do the right thing by the filly and the right thing was not to run.

“I was just going through the book last night and there are no fillies' race for her in this country. She can't [go] for the Michael Seeley Memorial S. at York as she is not eligible and consequently the Heron comes at the right time.”
