Insight Outcomes: Adora Steals the Show at Woodbine

It was all Woodbine this past weekend for Insights, with one filly winning impressively first out and another finishing a bang-up third. Each hails from a storied breeding program and will likely improve with some added distance off their sprint debuts.

SATURDAY'S INSIGHTS: $450k Into Mischief Firster Debuts At Woodbine

2nd-Woodbine, C$92,730, Msw, 5-14, 2yo, f, 4 1/2f (AWT), :52.41, ft, 4 3/4 lengths.

The Sam-Son legacy continues to deliver as ADORA (f, 2, Into Mischief-Southern Ring {MGSW-Can, SP-USA, $343,998}, by Speightstown) burst onto the racing scene at Woodbine. Bred by the iconic farm and making her career bow for Tracy Farmer, the bay 2-year-old battled for the early lead from the outside, dispensed her challenger and was already 2 1/2 lengths the best at the :46.17 half, then sailed home unthreatened. Farmer plucked her out of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale for $450,000 before sending her to Hall of Famer Mark Casse. Adora's dam was an $875,000 Determined Stud purchase at the Keeneland January sale last year as part of the Sam-Son dispersal. The winner is a fourth-generation Sam-Son bred who traces directly to 1956 Broodmare of the Year Swoon. Adora's granddam is a full-sister to the great-granddam of 'TDN Rising Star' and highly regarded recent GI Kentucky Derby contestant Messier (Empire Maker). SUNDAY'S INSIGHTS: Godolphin Unveils Secret Spice Half At Woodbine

4th-Woodbine, C$125,200, Msw, 5-15, 3yo, f, 7f (AWT), 1:23.14, ft, 9 1/2 lengths.

The Juddmonte-bred EPHRATA (GB) (f, 3, Ghostzapper–Grand Jete {GB} {GSW & MGISP, $335,759}, by Dansili {GB}), sold for 200,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale and since transferred across the pond from the John Gosden yard to the Josie Carroll barn, upended the debut of Aioli (Medaglia d'Oro). Aioli had been scheduled for unveiling in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden at Laurel on the grass nine days prior, but scratched when the race was moved off the turf and was rerouted here. She had an educational trip, breaking nicely from the outside, getting shuffled back and looking beaten in seventh or eighth at the top of lane, then maneuvering through traffic to finish with enthusiasm and nab the show spot. The Godolphin homebred hails from the Mike Stidham barn. She is out of $3.1-million Keeneland September purchase Chimayo (A.P. Indy), dam of 2019 GI Beholder Mile S. winner Secret Spice (Discreet Cat). Secret Spice hammered at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton November sale for $1.4 million to Katsumi Yoshida. Chimayo's half-sister produced 2018 Canadian Horse of the Year Wonder Gadot by the same Darley sire as Aioli and 2019 GI La Brea S. winner Hard Not to Love to the cover of Darley sire Hard Spun. Insight Outcomes: Love Reigns Supreme

With juvenile racing heating up, three of our featured horses this past week won, all on debut. In addition, Coolmore Ireland's U S Navy Flag became the first freshman sire of the season to record a 'TDN Rising Star' on American soil, although fellow freshman Kessaar (Ire) got one a fortnight previously at Newmarket.

TUESDAY'S INSIGHTS: Well-Related Goldencents Firster Right To the Races
3rd-Parx Racing, $47,208, Msw, 4-26, 2yo, 2f, :23.27, ft, 1 length.
FERRARI KID (c, 2, Goldencents–Catch the Flag, by A.P. Indy) won this baby sprint at first asking, but that might not be the biggest update to his pedigree in the next week as his half-sister produced 'TDN Rising Star' Messier (Empire Maker), who is set to break from post six in Saturday's GI Kentucky Derby. Ferrari Kid was a $100,000 buy at OBS March by Richard Malouf after working in :21 1/5. Trained by Scott Lake for this Quarter Horse-like debut, the bay shot to the lead to win by a driving length under a vigorous ride. His unraced dam is out of Canadian champion Catch the Ring (Seeking the Gold). Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

FRIDAY'S INSIGHTS: U S Navy Flag Filly Debuts for Ward & Stonestreet Stables
2nd-Keeneland, $51,276, Msw, 4-29, 2yo, f, 5 1/2fT, 1:02.33, fm, 9 3/4 lengths.
Debuts don't come much more impressively than the unveiling of LOVE REIGNS (IRE) (f, 2, U S Navy Flag–Humble And Proud {Ire}, by Pivotal {GB}), who motored to the front and dared the others to catch her. With an efficient stride that hinted at the ability to do much more if asked, the bay–the third winner for her MG1SW freshman sire (by War Front)–was a no-brainer 'TDN Rising Star' after posting a 9 3/4-length victory. A half to 2018 GI Sword Dancer S. winner Glorious Empire (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), the winner was a €160,000 Goffs Orby purchase for Stonestreet. Love Reigns topped an Irish-bred, Wesley Ward-trained exacta, as his Rivka (Ire) (No Nay Never) was the runner-up. In third was Delight (Mendelssohn), who closed from last to overcome a rough and intimidating trip for the show. The Jonathan Thomas pupil was a $400,000 OBS March purchase by Augustin Stable after a :10 1/5 work. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

5th-Keeneland, $100,000, Msw, 4-29, 3yo, 6 1/2f, 1:17.93, ft, 1 1/2 lengths.
DOMINICAN PIONEER (c, 3, Pioneerof the Nile–Heatherdoesntbluff, by Old Trieste) donned cap and gown to become the third consecutive 'Insighted' horse to win. Always part of the early fray, the dark bay took command at the sixteenth pole and pulled clear late to win with authority. The R T Racing Stable colorbearer helped push trainer Wesley Ward to his sixth Keeneland Spring Meet title. The winner, a $325,000 Keeneland September purchase, is a half to GISW Killer Graces (Congaree) and to MGSW Chocolate Ride (Candy Ride {Arg}). SUNDAY'S INSIGHTS: Seven-Figure Shadwell Buy Debuts
4th-Belmont, $90,000, Msw, 5-1, 3yo/up, f/m, 1 1/16mT, 1:42.51, fm, neck.
Christophe Clement's CANISY (f, 3, Point of Entry–Soother, by Rahy) played spoiler to featured Contemporary Art (Dubawi {Ire}) and Sahlabiya (Medaglia d'Oro). The trio of debuters all raced closely together in midpack, took varying paths to the front, and emerged from the fray with only each other as valid threats. In the end, it was Canisy by a neck over Contemporary Art, who had a neck on Sahlabiya. The winner campaigns for Blue Devil Racing Stable and is a half to MSW, GSP, and Saratoga course record setter Carotari (Artie Schiller). The runner-up is a Bobby Flay homebred and the first foal out of GSW and $1.6-million Fasig-Tipton November purchase Cover Song (Fastnet Rock {Aus}). The mare is out of European champion Misty For Me (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), making her a half to European champion U S Navy Flag (War Front), sire of the above-mentioned 'TDN Rising Star' Love Reigns, and to British MG1SW and 'TDN Rising Star' Roly Poly (War Front). Trifecta bookend Sahlabiya was a $1.6-million purchase at Keeneland September for Shadwell Stable. Half-brother and 'TDN Rising Star' Sergei Prokofiev (Scat Daddy) brought $1.1 million at the same sale three years earlier and is a graded winner in England. The top three all ran extremely well on debut against a more seasoned field, proved they were each up for a fight, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see any or all of them do bigger things down the line. Insight Outcomes: Firsters Simply Super and Talkin Pharoah Duel

As Keeneland winds down and Derby week visibly looms on the horizon, it was quiet on the Insights front this past week, with just two races highlighted and one of the major contenders scratching. Previous GI Kentucky Derby winners Super Saver (2010) and American Pharoah (2015) had juveniles step up with a stretch battle in their career debuts.

WEDNESDAY'S INSIGHTS: Tapit Half to Dual GISW Debuts at KEE

4th-Keeneland, $58,964, Msw, 4-20, 2yo, 4 1/2f, :52.33, ft, 1 1/2 lengths.

With the featured Magic Tap (Tapit)–a half to MGISW and $3-million Fasig-Tipton buy American Gal (Concord Point)–a late scratch, firster SIMPLY SUPER (c, 2, Super Saver–So You Know, by Jump Start) picked up the slack to get his debut win. Simply Super tracked also-highlighted Talkin Pharoah (American Pharoah) behind :22.98 and :45.92 fractions, drawing on even terms in the lane. The two dueled down the stretch with Simply Super kicking clear late to get the better of Talkin Phaorah by 1 1/2 lengths. A Mike Maker pupil, the winner was a $30,000 private purchase by Legion Bloodstock at Fasig-Tipton's Midlantic Fall Yearlings sale and is from the last U.S. crop by his now-Turkish-based sire. The runner-up is a Wesley Ward trainee who brought $260,000 at Keeneland September. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

SATURDAY'S INSIGHTS: $550k Uncle Mo Colt Kicks Off at Keeneland

2nd-Keeneland, $100,000, Msw, 4-23, 3yo/up, 5 1/2fT, 1:02.94, gd, 2 1/2 lengths.

It was ATRAS (g, 3, Astern {Aus}–All About Allison, by City Zip) who covered the most ground in this maiden, circling the field after sitting midpack to accelerate down the center of the course, finishing a much-the-best 2 1/2-length victor for trainer Vicki Oliver. The big-blazed sophomore is a member of the first crop of Medaglia d'Oro's fellow Darley-based son Astern. 'Insighted' Wesley Ward trainee Lawmaker (Uncle Mo) broke sharply, pressing the pace while three wide, but dropped back on the turn and faded to follow the field home. The $550,000 Keeneland September purchase was making his career debut. He had shipped from Keeneland to the Spa last summer, got in one work over Saratoga's training track, then didn't reappear until a work at Keeneland in late fall. He's been steadily preparing for this unveiling with 14 official works in the books since November and undoubtedly got an education here. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

Tuesday Insights: Well-Related Goldencents Firster Right To the Races

3rd-Parx, $42K, Msw, 2yo, 2f, post time: 1:49 p.m. ET
Less than six weeks after selling to owner Richard Malouf for $100,000 at the OBS March Sale, FERRARI KID (Goldencents) looks to recoup some of that investment in the first race of the season for the 2-year-old males. A :21 1/5 breezer in Central Florida during his Mar. 11 under-tack preview, the bay son of Catch the Flag (A.P. Indy) is a half-brother to SW Checkered Past (Smart Strike), whose 'TDN Rising Star' MGSW/GISP son Messier (Empire Maker) is set to represent the Tim Yakteen barn in the GI Kentucky Derby in a little less than two weeks. Catch the Flag is a daughter of champion Catch the Ring (Seeking the Gold), herself the dam of Sovereign Award winner Catch the Thrill (A.P. Indy) and granddam of SW Curlin's Catch (Curlin). Frankie Pennington, who won Monday's fillies' race aboard Condescending (Exaggerator), has the call for trainer Scott Lake. TJCIS PPs
