Sunday Insights: Whisper Hill Looking To Strike Twice With Sibling To ‘Trice’

3rd-GP, $60k, Msw, 3yo, f, 6f, post time: 2:14 p.m. ET
In the name of her Whisper Hill Farm, Mandy Pope went to $1.3 million for a son of Tapit out of MSW & GSP Danzatrice (Dunkirk) at the 2021 Keeneland September, and that looked like money well spent when Tapit Trice went on to a victory in the 2023 GI Toyota Blue Grass S. while placing in the GI Belmont S. and GI Travers S. Pope was so enamored of her purchase that she went back to the well at the 2022 September sale, giving $1.1 million for the colt's full-sister, DANZIT, who makes her first trip to the races Sunday. Also trained by Todd Pletcher, the March foal is out of a close relative to champion and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies victress Jaywalk (Cross Traffic) and the deeper female family includes the sires Mission Impazible and Forest Camp. Among the competition is Silver Moonlight (Liam's Map), a half-brother to the Grade III-placed juvenile Man Child (Creative Cause), who was a $150,000 KEESEP yearling before doubling that hammer price at last year's OBS March Sale. Thursday’s Insights: Pricey Pletcher Colts Debut at Gulfstream

5th-GP, $89K, MSW, 4yo/up, 7 1/2fT, 2:09pm EST
Trainer Todd Pletcher offers up a pair of seven-figure sales horses making their belated debuts. Victorious Racing LLC's SWORDOFHONOR (IRE) (Siyouni {Fr}) sports some pretty flashy credentials. The €1.5 million Arqana August yearling purchase is a half-brother to the year-older Angel Bleu (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}), a two-time Group 1 winner as a juvenile who subsequently won last summer's G2 Celebration Mile S. at Goodwood. Consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux and purchased by Oliver St Lawrence, the bay was the second highest-priced yearling and the top-priced colt of the 2021 Arqana August Yearling Sale. His family also includes Group 1 scorers Elvstroem (Aus) and Haradasun (Aus). The son of Cercle de La Vie (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), sister to Group 1 winners Highland Reel and Cape of Good Hope, posted a pair of bullet works–including the most recent a 1:01 (1/5) move Feb. 8–at Pletcher's Palm Beach Downs base.

Also representing the Hall of Famer is Repole Stable and St Elias Stable's STORM READY (City of Light), a $1.05 million Keeneland September buy. The half to GSW Biddy Duke (Bayern) posted his latest breeze at Palm Beach Downs Jan. 31, covering five panels in 1:00 3/5 (1/2). The colts will be partnered by the Ortiz brothers, the former by Jose and the latter by Irad. TJCIS PPS

Justify Filly Looks To Fire Fresh For Fipke at Fair Grounds

Charles Fipke homebred JUSTIFY PERFECTION (Justify) is a half-sister to four winners from six to the races, including three to have earned black-type, namely GI Natalma S. runner-up Stormy Perfection (Tale of the Cat)–the dam of the Irish stakes-placed Stormy Entry (Point of Entry)–SP Perfection Cat (Tale of the Cat) and MSP Perfect Silent Cat (Tale of the Cat). The unraced dam Silent Perfection (Perfect Soul {Ire}) is a daughter of the beautifully bred Silence Beauty (Jpn) (Sunday Silence), herself responsible for Fipke's GI Wood Memorial S. hero Tale of Ekati (Tale of the Cat) and GSW Tale of Silence (Tale of the Cat). The GI Alabama S.-winning third dam Maplejinsky (Nijinsky II) produced champion and Filly Triple Crown heroine Sky Beauty (Blushing Groom {Fr}). She'll have to beat Rigney Racing's Tipsy Tammy (Arrogate), a $600,000 KEESEP yearling who was second–and better than 10 lengths ahead of the third–when second on debut to 'TDN Rising Star' Impel (Quality Road) over this course and distance Jan. 1.
