Homebred Mystifying Holds On To Graduate At First Asking In Hallandale

6th-Gulfstream, $70,000, Msw, 1-14, 3yo, f, 6f, 1:11.68, ft, 1/2 length.
MYSTIFYING (f, 3, Curlin–Puzzling {SP, $127,312}, by Ghostzapper) debuted with Lasix and as a 7-1 shot here. The homebred hustled for the lead to the inside of a pair of competitors up the backstretch. Poking her head in front around the far turn, the filly continued to pour on the speed at the top of the lane and she gamely held off the favorite Bedazzle 'Em (American Pharoah) to graduate by half a length. “Jose [Ortiz] worked her out of the gate one day at Payson and she worked really well,” said trainer Shug McGaughey. “I thought she was tactical enough to run three-quarters, but she's going to want to run farther. He told me she just took him there on her own. He was like, 'If you want to go, we'll go.' I think she's got a good future in front of her.” Puzzling is responsible for a newly-turned juvenile colt by Street Sense, who was purchased for $500,000 by Centennial Farms at last year's Keeneland September Sale. The stakes-place mare was covered by Oscar Performance for this year. Mystifying's second dam–GISP Dancinginmydreams (Seeking the Gold)–is a full-sister to champion 3-year-old filly Heavenly Prize, in addition to GI Matron S. heroine Oh What A Windfall. Dancinginmydreams is also responsible for GI Manhattan H. scorer Dancing Forever (Rahy). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $42,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.

Leslie’s Rose Looked Like A ‘TDN Rising Star’ To Stay Perfect At Gulfstream

6th-Gulfstream, $72,000, Alw (NW1X)/Opt. Clm ($75,000), 1-11, 3yo, f, 7f, 1:23.36, gd, 1 length.
LESLIE'S ROSE (f, 3, Into Mischief–Wildwood Rose {Ire}, by Galileo {Ire}) earned 'TDN Rising Star' honors when she won by 9 1/4 lengths in her first start at Aqueduct Nov. 19. Through the ring as one of the top ten prices, the Keeneland September graduate made her 3-year-old debut with Lasix and was well-backed as the heavy 1-5 favorite here. The filly allowed Gun Song (Gun Runner) to take the lead from her up the backstretch. Ranging up on the pacesetter around the far turn, the Todd Pletcher trainee cranked up the pressure into the stretch, fought her rival gamely and finally put her away in the final jumps to win by a healthy length. Leslie's Rose is out of an unraced dam who is also responsible for a 2-year-old filly by Good Magic and she was bred to Not This Time for this year. Wildwood Rose is a half-sister to 'TDN Rising Star' Materiality (Afleet Alex) and GI Kentucky Oaks runner-up My Miss Sofia (Unbridled's Song), the dam of 'TDN Rising Star' and new sire Annapolis (War Front). The winner's third dam produced SP Expanse (Distant View)–dam to GI Travers S. hero Afleet Express (Afleet Alex) and GI Alabama S. heroine Embellish the Lace (Super Saver). Sales History: $1,150,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 2-2-0-0, $89,950. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.

Into Mischief’s Allamericanbeauty Rolls Late

3rd-Gulfstream, $70,000, Msw, 1-22, 3yo, f, 1 1/16mT, 1:43.55, fm, neck.
ALLAMERICANBEAUTY (f, 3, Into Mischief–Apologize, by Lemon Drop Kid), debuting as the favorite at Aqueduct Dec. 4, finished just off-the-board in the slop that afternoon. Shipping to Shug McGaughey's southern base, the $700,000 KEESEP purchase trying turf, two-turns and Lasix for the first time, passed with flying colors. Racing mid-pack around the clubhouse turn, the 6-1 shot settled just to the outside of King's Secret (GB) (Kingman {GB}). Around the far turn, the pace quickened enough for the bay filly to position herself to shoot through a gap that opened up in the three path down the lane. Avoiding traffic trouble on the rail, she kicked for home, and had enough energy to fend off a late charge from Doral (Quality Road) to win by a neck. Bomba Nera (War Front) was fourth, but she was taken down by the stewards and placed eighth after an inquiry determined that she bumped I'm a Sure Thing (Le Havre {Ire}), which caused King's Secret to be taken up on the rail. Tar Heel Girl (Into Mischief) finished last, while Just The Sky (Justify) was seventh. The winner's dam, a full-sister to MGSW Aurelia's Belle, also has black-type on her mare's side of the family, including GISW Aldize (Storm Cat). She is responsible for a 2-year-old Tapit colt, a yearling filly by Medaglia d'Oro, and she was bred to Maclean's Music last year. Sales History: $700,000 Ylg '21 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $47,100. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.
