Horseshoe Indianapolis Donates $10,000 to Echo Effect Arts Campus

Horseshoe Indianapolis has partnered with Echo Effect Arts Campus on a few projects in 2023. The casino and racetrack, in a joint effort, took another step this week to elevate their support for the organization with a $10,000 donation to the overall operations of the multi-faceted property.

“We strive to link our donations with organizations that do so much for the local community and Echo Effect fits that mold perfectly,” said Trent McIntosh, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Horseshoe Indianapolis. “Not only does Thurman (Adams) and his team provide valuable workspace, they bring a unique business to Shelby County with state-of-the-art recording equipment. Plus, their investment in a well-traveled corner of Shelbyville shows their commitment to the community. They have become part of the vast expansion movement going on in downtown Shelbyville.”

Horseshoe Indy Makes Donation To Grayson Jockey Club Equine Research

Horseshoe Indianapolis hosted the fourth annual Grayson Grass Challenge throughout the month of August to benefit Grayson-Jockey Club Equine Research and made a $9.6k donation as a result.

“We just completed our fourth year hosting this event and the handicappers involved raised a record amount for Grayson,” said Eric Halstrom, Vice President and General Manager of Racing. “Grayson came to us a few years ago about partnering on a promotion and this special contest emerged as a result. We are elated to donate a total of $9,674.60 to Grayson this year and truly thank all the handicappers who donated their time for this promotion.”

Eight handicappers were given a $500 bankroll to spread out over five weeks of turf racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The individuals lent their expertise on various wagers and raised a total of $3,174.60, adding to the $6,500 donation from Horseshoe Indianapolis that included the bankrolls. Scott Ehlers, representing Daily Racing Form, earned the most money with a total of $785.20 followed by Rachel McLaughlin of Horseshoe Indianapolis with a tally of $646.80. Dan Tordjman of America's Best Racing was a close third with $633.20. Other handicappers who contributed to the cause included Ellis Starr (Equibase), Brian Arrigoni (Horseshoe Indianapolis), Jenna Otten (Caesars Entertainment Racing-Scioto Downs), and Nick Luck (NBC).

“We recognize the health and well-being of horses is so important, and anything we can do to assist is vital to the racing industry,” said Jamie Haydon, President of Grayson Jockey Club Research Foundation. “We currently have 40 projects at 16 universities working to better understand the health of horses and allow horses of all breeds to live healthier lives. We are very appreciative of this partnership with Horseshoe Indianapolis, and this would not be possible without the commitment from management to host this event annually.”

Grayson-Jockey Club Equine Research is the leading source of private funding for equine medical research, assisting all disciplines of equine performance and wellness since 1940. More than $40 million has been assigned so far through more than 426 projects at 45 universities internationally.

Omaha Beach’s Code Omaha Off The Mark at First Asking

7th-Horseshoe Indianapolis, $34,000, Msw, 9-25, 2yo, 5fT, :58.40, fm, 2 1/4 lengths.
CODE OMAHA (c, 2, Omaha Beach–Lantiz {SP, $271,821}, by Tizway) was favored by $15 over fellow firster Silent Heart (Heart to Heart) in a five-furlong turf dash Monday at Horseshoe Indianapolis and the duo comprised what turned out to be a fairly rich return to exacta players. A $180,000 Fasig-Tipton July yearling turned $550,000 OBS April breezer, the bay broke sharply, but inward, causing a bit of a chain reaction to his inside. Easing to the lead for Manny Esquivel, the bay carved out an opening quarter in :22.63 with a host of pursuers and maintained a clear advantage into the stretch. Briefly challenged by Azteca's Gold (Sharp Azteca) approaching the eighth pole, Code Omaha kicked on nicely and covered his final furlong in a smart :11.39 to score comfortably at odds of 27-10. Silent Heart was forced to cover extra ground while rallying into the final quarter mile and boxed on gamely for second to complete a $31 exacta.

The 12th winner for his first-crop sire (by War Front), Code Omaha is the first foal from a turf stakes-placed dam. There is further grass influence down the pace, as third dam Candleinthedark (Cox's Ridge) was placed in the GIII Modesty H. on the grass and was a half-sister to GII Hall of Fame S. winner Islefaxyou (Storm Bird). The yearling half-brother to Code Omaha, a colt by Complexity, cost Thomas & Mitchell Bloodstock $50,000 at Keeneland September last week, and Lantiz is also the dam of a yearling colt by Maclean's Music. She was most recently covered by Jackie's Warrior (Maclean's Music). Sales history: $185,000 Ylg '22 FTKJUL; $550,000 2yo '23 OBSAPR. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $20,400.
