Forte Remains Favored In Inaugural Preakness Future Wager

Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable's champion Forte remains a strong favorite in the inaugural Preakness Future Wager following the close of Sunday's live racing in Maryland.

A total of $84,651 was in the win pool at the conclusion of Sunday's eight-race program from Laurel Park. The Preakness Future Bet opened at noon Friday, April 28 and will close at approximately 6 p.m. (ET) Saturday, May 6, about an hour prior to the running of the Kentucky Derby (G1).

A winner of five straight races starting with the Hopeful (G1), Breeders' Futurity (G1) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) at 2 and Fountain of Youth (G2) and Florida Derby (G1) this year, Forte sits atop a list of 27 individual horses and a field entry of “all other 3-year-olds” at Preakness Future Wager odds of 3-1 heading into the Derby.

Angel of Empire, who enters the Derby off wins in the Risen Star (G2) and Arkansas Derby (G1), is second choice in the Preakness Future Wager at 9-1, ahead of Lexington (G3) winner First Mission (11-1) and Forte's Todd Pletcher-trained stablemate Tapit Trice (12-1), winner of the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) and Blue Grass (G1). Both Angel of Empire and First Mission are trained by Brad Cox.

Japan-bred Derma Sotogake, winner of the UAE Derby (G2), and Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Practical Move were each 14-1. The field entry of “all other 3-year-olds” stood at 15-1, while automatic Preakness qualifiers Red Route One and Chase the Chaos were at 22-1 and 70-1, respectively.

The Preakness Future Wager was unanimously approved by the Maryland Racing Commission at its April 4 meeting. Similar to that of future wagers for the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks (G1), bettors are not refunded if their selection does not run in the Preakness, which is limited to a maximum of 14 starters.

The 148th Preakness Stakes (G1), Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown, will be run Saturday, May 20 at historic Pimlico Race Course. Entries will be taken and post positions drawn Monday, May 15.

Gulfstream Park: Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed At $375,000 Sunday

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 gross jackpot pool will be guaranteed for $375,000 Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for 12 racing days following a jackpot hit.

Sunday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 5-10, kicked off by a highly competitive mile optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up in Race 5. Multiple stakes-winner Octane, who has earned more than $500,000, is rated as the 9-5 favorite in a field of seven. The Arindel homebred finished second behind Endorsed in the Fred Hooper (G3) during the Championship Meet.

A mile maiden special weight race on turf for 3-year-old fillies with a well-stocked field of 11 follows in Race 6. Jose D'Angelo-trained Typey, who has raced well in all four career starts, is listed as the 9-5 favorite.

In the Race 9 feature, a mile optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares, Amador Sanchez-trained Selina Kyle, a multiple group winner who has captured 11 of 14 starts in Peru, is slated to make her U.S. debut.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Palermo Showcases Republic Of Argentina Grand Prix On Monday

This Monday, May 1, Argentina's Palermo racecourse is expecting an extraordinary day that involves six international grand prix events that will be simulcast across North America by Sky Racing World (first post on the 18-race card is 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT). At the head of the list is the Republic of Argentina, whose 1 1/4-mile distance will be a new challenge for Miriñaque, who is about to turn seven years old and is going through a fantastic moment, with six first victories in his last seven appearances.

A month has passed since his previous conquest in the Gran Premio De Honor, where he won by seven lengths at the same track and on the same course. He will again have among his rivals those who came second (Clapp, accelerates in the final stretch), third (Super Inter, with speed and endurance) and fourth (Tio Boy, proven in this grade).

Continuing with the Group 1 competitions, the Breeders' Cup (G1) at 1 1/4 miles provides the opportunity to qualify for the “Win and You're In” challenge series program for the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita this November. Here, Belleza de Arteaga, who accumulated seven consecutive wins, and Super Shine, who has recorded two major victories in just two weeks, at different terrains and distances, stand out as they are undefeated this year. La Validada, who was the winner of this race in 2022, will also be present.

The De las Americas GP – OSAF (G1, one mile) will have Subsanador, the best 2-year-old male of last season and who this year has two first places in a row on the same course.

The other competition involving older horses is the first great sprint classic of the year, the Ciudad de Buenos Aires (G1, five  furlongs) with three outstanding contenders: Labrado, the champion of the specialty in 2022 who just lost his unbeaten record last month in his sixth race; Comopudosucederme, preceded by three consecutive victories; and the Uruguayan Girona Fever, the queen of sprinters who has 14 victories in 17 starts.

Celestial Filly is entered in the Jorge de Atucha (G1, 7 ½ furlongs), victorious in the seven competitions she competed in between Palermo, San Isidro and La Plata, with the challenge of making a jump in the distance. There are other undefeated horses in the lot: Joy Rosy and Soy Yarquen won the only time they raced.

In the Montevideo (G1, 7 ½ furlongs), Rio Maggio arrives boosted by victories in the Santiago Luro (G2, 1200m) and the Raul y Raul E. Chevalier (G2, 1400m) races. Among his opponents are his last runner-up, Full Golyat and Príncipe Yon, who dominated the Pedro y Manuel Crespo (G3, seven furlongs) race, which is used as a preparation race, adapting to the distance after competing in speed and precocious races.

The simulcast of the entire Gran República Argentina card from Palermo racetrack will be available for live-stream on the Sky Racing World App, skyracingworld.com and major ADW platforms. Fans can also get free access to past performances and at skyracingworld.com.
