Grayson Grass Challenge: Indiana Grand Partners With Research Foundation For Handicapping Challenge

Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation announced today that it will be the beneficiary of the “Grayson Grass Challenge,” sponsored by Indiana Grand Racing & Casino.

The Grayson Grass Challenge will be a five-week handicapping contest starting the week of August 10 whereby participants in the challenge submit selections on two specified turf races each week at Indiana Grand through the week of September 7. Each contestant will be given a $500 bankroll provided by Indiana Grand, of which $100 can be wagered each week. The bankroll can be used for win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, and superfecta wagers. At the end of the five weeks, all remaining bankroll plus winnings from the contestants will go to Grayson.

“Our sport is not possible without healthy horses, and Grayson funds research projects that facilitate wellness among all horses, including racehorses,” said Eric Halstrom, vice president and general manager of racing for Indiana Grand. “I wish our expert handicappers the best of luck in their efforts to raise money for such an important cause.”

“We are excited to work with Indiana Grand and all contest participants as part of the Grayson Grass Challenge,” said Jamie Haydon, president of Grayson. “We are thankful to all parties for their enthusiasm in supporting equine health and wellness.”

The field for the Grayson Grass Challenge will consist of four individuals: Nick Luck, international racing broadcaster; Gabe Prewitt, analyst for Scioto Downs and Pompano Park; Ellis Starr, national racing analyst for Equibase; and Daniel Tordjman, America's Best Racing handicapper and manager of Partnerships & Sponsorships. Indiana Grand will also participate with an entry of rotating picks from Nancy Holthus, paddock analyst; Rachel McLaughlin, racing analyst and production manager; and Bill Downes, track announcer.

Colonial Downs Increases Takeout Rates, Bumps Tuesday Post Time Due To Heat Wave

Colonial Downs in New Kent, Va. was scheduled to begin live racing on Monday, July 27, but a heat wave in the area forced that card to be rescheduled. On Tuesday, track officials decided to push post time back to 6:30 p.m., according to drf.com.

In addition, the Daily Racing Form reported that Colonial Downs has raised wagering takeout rates for its 2020 meet. The new rates will be as follows:

Win, Place, Show Wagers: 18 percent (2019: 16 percent)
Exotic Bets: 22 percent (2019: 20 percent)
Pick 5: eliminated (2019: 12 percent)

Colonial is racing on a Monday through Wednesday schedule this season, a change from last year's Friday to Sunday schedule. That places the track around a different set of competitors with higher takeout rates, explained John Marshall, executive vice president of operations.

“We felt like [Colonial's new rates] are still the most competitive in that set,” Marshall told the Daily Racing Form. “We just didn't feel the need to go super low this year.”

$29,652 Total Investment Yields $173,912 Payoff In Del Mar Pick Six

A single Pick Six ticket holder playing an $8 base price ticket took down Del Mar's Sunday pool to the tune of $173,912. The $8 base means there was a single ticket hitting the $2 bet four times.

The bettor played a total of $29,652 on the wager and cashed when Canadian Ginger captured the 11th and final race of the day to pay $8.20 to win.

The winning horses in the sequence were Race 6 — #9 Songofthedesert ($5.60); Race 7 — #10 Sweet River Baines ($114.40); Race 8 — #7 United ($4.80); Race 9 – # 10 Friar's Road ($4.00); Race 10 — #2 Galilean ($4.40), and #11 Canadian Ginger in the nitecap.

In the case of a solo ticket, the bettor wins both the main Pick Six pool and the Jackpot pool.

$1.1-Million Jackpot Guarantee In Thursday’s Rainbow 6 At Gulfstream

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $1.1 Million Thursday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 15th consecutive racing program Sunday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $360.24.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

A mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 has been scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 2.
