Gulfstream Park: $150,000 Rainbow 6 Jackpot Guarantee Wednesday; Gaffalione Red-Hot

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $150,000 Wednesday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved Sunday following Saturday's mandatory payout. Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $2,869.44.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover Wednesday of $3,674.66.

The jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

WHO'S HOT: Tyler Gaffalione, who rode four winners Saturday, came right back to win three races on Sunday. Gaffalione, who rode Sleepy Eyes Todd to victory in Saturday's $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3), scored aboard Nitro Time ($4.80) in Race 1, Comp'd ($25) in Race 4 and Digital Footprint ($5.90) in Race 6.

Luis Saez doubled notched back-to-back victories aboard Zaajel ($8.20) in Race 7 and Omnia ($17.60) in Race 8. Edgard Zayas also rode a pair of winners, scoring aboard No Que No ($19) in Race 3 and Scar ($16.80) in Race 9.

Aqueduct New Year’s Eve Card To Feature Mandatory Payouts In Empire 6, Pick 5 Wagers

The New York Racing Association announced the New Year's Eve card at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, N.Y., will feature mandatory payouts of the Empire 6, Early Pick 5 and Late Pick 5 wagers, in accordance with New York State Gaming Commission rules.

The final day of live racing for 2020 at the Big A on Thursday, December 31 will be highlighted by the Empire 6, which boasted a jackpot of $139,360.46 heading into Sunday's 10-race card at Aqueduct. No live racing will be conducted at the track from December 21-30.

The Empire 6 requires the bettor to select the first-place finisher of the final six races of the day's card. On non-mandatory payout days, if one unique ticket exists, then 100 percent of the net pool, plus the jackpot carryover if applicable, will be paid to the winner. If there is no unique wager selecting the first-place finisher in all six races, then 75 percent of the day's net pool will be distributed to those who selected the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races. The remainder will be added into the jackpot and carried to the next day's Empire 6.

$5.3 Million Wagered On Gulfstream Rainbow 6 On Mandatory Payout Day

Gulfstream Park's mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 resulted in multiple winning tickets Saturday returning $7,363.64.

There was a carryover of $839,334.75 in the Rainbow 6 at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track, and $5.336 million of new money bet into the pool. The sequence included Repole Stable's Always Shopping winning the Via Borghese and Sleepy Eyes Todd winning the Mr. Prospector (G3).

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is usually only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool. However, on mandatory-payout days, the entire pool is paid out to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the six-race sequence.

Racing continues at Gulfstream Sunday with an 11-race program featuring two Florida-bred allowance optional claiming events with purses of $40,000. The ninth race, at a mile on the main track, has Charlie the Greek entered off a sixth-place finish Dec. 5 in the Claiming Crown Iron Horse. Green Mansions will make his first start since being claimed by Jorge Delgado. The 10th race, at five furlongs on the turf, has Ray'swarrior as the 5-2 favorite, Trained by Kelly Breen, Ray'swarrior comes into the race off a fifth-place finish in the Claiming Crown Express.

The Rainbow 6 will have a guaranteed pool Sunday of $75,000.

Who's Hot: Tyler Gaffalione, Irad Ortiz Jr. and Arindel. Gaffalione rode four winners, including Sleepy Eyes Todd ($12.20) in the Mr. Prospector (G3). Ortiz rode three winners, including Always Shopping ($7.40) in the Via Borghese and Arindel's homebreds Cobb ($5.60) in the third race and Sonar ($8.40) the seventh race.

Six Winning Tickets Worth $228,816 Each In Los Alamitos Pick 6

Chasing a Pick 6 carryover that had reached $423,178 Friday at Los Alamitos in Cypress, Calif., bettors wagered $1,809,485 for a record total pool of $2,232,663.

Since daytime thoroughbred racing returned to Los Alamitos in July 2014, the previous high Pick 6 pool – including carryover – was $1,558,329 Dec. 17, 2016.

Six tickets able to isolate the half-dozen winners in the sequence were rewarded with a Los Alamitos daytime record payoff of $228,816.40. The previous mark was $110,732.80 Dec. 4, 2014.

The three biggest upsets were provided by Castle Gate, who returned $20.60 taking the opening leg, Single Me Out ($20.40) for his come-from-behind win in the eighth and D K's Crown, who paid $22 in capturing the sixth race.

The lone winning favorite was Empire Way, who rolled to an easy score as the 9-10 choice in the fifth. Princess Tale, the other winner in the Pick Six, paid $9.20 rallying from last in the afternoon's final race.
