$600,000 Guaranteed Rainbow 6 Jackpot, $23,107 Super Hi-5 Carryover Await Gulfstream Players On Wednesday

There will be a $600,000 guaranteed pool in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 and a Super Hi-5 carryover of $23,107.89 when racing resumes Wednesday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

First race post time is 12:35 p.m.

Multiple winning tickets in Sunday's Rainbow 6 returned $23,888.54.

The jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Wednesday's Rainbow 6 begins with the fifth race, a $35,000 claiming event for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/8 miles on the turf course. The race is scheduled to go off at 2:28 p.m. and will be the first of four turf races in the sequence.

Trainer Mary Eppler has entered Strong Headed and Reliability, while Mike Maker will send out All Good.

The sixth race is a maiden special weight event for fillies and mares at 6 ½ furlongs. George Weaver sends out a first-time starter Into Candy for owner Martin Schwartz. A daughter of into Mischief, Into Candy fetched $210,000 at auction. Whispering Pines enters off a third-place finish in the slop at Churchill Downs for Brian Lynch. Trainer Todd Pletcher will saddle Shadwell Stable's Aqaareb.

The seventh race, a mile turf event for juvenile fillies with a $35,000 claiming tag, drew field of 10 including Pharoah's Gold, a daughter of American Pharoah who broke her maiden at Keeneland in October, Mike Maker's Serenade a Kitten and trainer Brittany Russell's Coffee Buzz Buzz.

A $20,000 claimer for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/8 miles on the turf brings together a competitive field of nine in Gulfstream's eighth race followed by a starter optional claimer at a mile on the main track. The Rainbow 6 ends with a maiden special weight event for 2-year-old fillies at 7 ½ furlongs on the turf. The field of 12 has horses from the stables of Mark Casse, Pletcher, Maker, George Arnold, Wesley Ward, Bill Mott, Saffie Joseph Jr., Graham Motion, Eddie Kenneally and Steve Dwoskin.

WHO'S HOT: Jockey Edgard Zayas rode three winners Sunday. Zayas won the early double with Seize the Hay ($4) in the first and Sidarth ($9.60) in the second, and Dr Harlan ($14.80) in the ninth.

Gulfstream Park: Sir Anthony Posts Jerkens Upset; Sunday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Has $550,000 Guarantee

Déjà vu at Gulfstream Park.

Richard Otto Stables Inc.'s Sir Anthony, winner of the 2018 Harlan's Holiday (G3) at odds of 25-1, ran down the pacesetter Conviction Trade to win Saturday's $75,000 H. Allen Jerkens at two miles at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

Odds for Sir Anthony in the Jerkens? 25-1.

A 5-year-old by Mineshaft winless in four previous attempts on the turf, Sir Anthony covered the rare, two mile distance in a track record 3:19.48 under jockey Julien Leparoux. The Jerkens was Sir Anthony's first victory since winning the 2019 Cornhusker (G3).

“We've been trying for a race for him on the dirt and it's been a while since he won. I was really looking for a confidence race for him and to get a race past a mile, which is tough to do,” said trainer Anthony Mitchell. “The opportunities out there were really for longer races on the turf, so we gave him a couple of runs on the turf in Arlington and it looked like he was OK on it, so we had that in the back of our mind. Moving forward we were looking for a race past a mile and an eighth. The opportunity to go two miles was out there and we presented it to the owner. He agreed, so we took a crack at it.”

Conviction Trade and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. took the field of 11 through fractions of :26.06, 51:57, 1:17.05 and 1:41.81 and held the lead entering the stretch before Sir Anthony and Leparoux took over inside the eighth pole.

“I said it after he won the Harlan's Holiday, they don't give him the respect he deserves,” Anthony said. “The owner is a pure champion of a man. He's been good to me and our relationship has been 26 years now. He bred this horse, along with a lot of other graded stakes winners that I've had. Full credit to Mr. Otto.”

Sunday's Rainbow 6 Guarantee $550,000
The 20-cent Rainbow 6 will have a guaranteed pool of $550,000 when racing resumes Sunday with a 12:05 p.m. first race post.

Multiple winning tickets in Saturday's Rainbow 6 returned $24,981.16.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover Sunday of $5,069.17.

Sunday's Rainbow 6 sequence begins in the sixth race, post time 2:38 p.m., with a claiming event at 1 1/16 mile on the turf. Four of the six races in the sequence will be contested on the turf.

The third leg, an allowance optional claimer for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 mile on the turf, features an intriguing cast including Gary Barber's Declarationwarrior, making her first start since in 10 months since finishing third in the Herecomesthebride (G3), Princesa Caroline, graded-stakes placed at Del Mar as a juvenile and making only her second start in 13 months, Mimina's Team, making her first start since May when finishing fifth in the Honey Ryder here at Gulfstream, and Setting the Mood, making her first start since finishing fourth in the Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1) in September.

Who's Hot: Irad Ortiz Jr. had three winners Saturday with Amount ($5.20) in Race 5, Colonel Liam ($4.40) in Race 8 and the Tropical Park Derby, and What's to Blame ($23.80) in Race 9. Jockey Julien Leparoux won two stakes, taking the Jerkens with Sir Anthony and the Tropical Park Oaks with Vigilantes Way ($7).

Los Alamitos To Add $10,000 To Sunday Night Pick 6 Pools In January

The traditional nighttime $2 Los Alamitos Race Course Pick 6 has always been a great bet. The wager has seen a steady growth in popularity over the past four months at the Cypress, Calif., track. It will now also feature an exciting new promotion for horseplayers during the month of January after the track announced that it will add $10,000 of company money into its Pick 6 pool on Sunday nights whenever there is not a carryover going into that evening's program.

The first Sunday eligible for the Pick 6 promotion at Los Alamitos will be January 3, which is also the night of the Grade 1, $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap for Quarter Horse mares. A total of $10,000 will be added to the $2 Pick 6 at Los Alamitos on Sunday, January 3 if there is not a carryover already going into that evening's program. Los Alamitos Race Course will continue to offer the promotion every Sunday during the month of January.

As a traditional $2 Pick Six, the wager features a 70/30 percent split each night. That means there are no jackpot provisions, and that on a nightly basis whenever there are tickets that have correctly selected six out of six winners, those winning tickets each equally share 70 percent of the total pool.

“Los Alamitos has some of the best and most loyal fans in racing and we wanted to do something to thank them for their continued support of our nightly program,” said Orlando Gutierrez, the Los Alamitos director of marketing. “We wanted to build some added excitement for our horseplayers on nights when we already have some of our best stakes races of the week.”

In addition to the Charger Bar Handicap on January 3, the month of January will also feature the Barbra B Handicap on Sunday, January 10, and the trials to the Grade 1 Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship on Sunday, January 24.

“We've seen the new money wagered into the Pick 6 pools on carryover nights grow in recent months,” Gutierrez added. “For example, our November 15 program featured a Pick 6 carryover of $4,615. Horseplayers added $52,374 of new money into the pool. Similarly, on December 12 we had a carryover going in of $6,340 and the new money wagered into it that night was $50,643. With this Pick 6 promotion on Sundays in January, we are making sure that some type of money – either the existing carryover or the $10,000 promotional money – will be there for horseplayers to go after. It's going to be a lot of fun for horseplayers to go after and win.”

The recently concluded LA County Fair Meet at Los Alamitos Race Course also featured a traditional $2 Pick 6. On Friday, December 18, the program featured a multi-day carryover of $423,178 leading to $1.809,485 of new money. By the end of an exciting racing day, six tickets able to isolate the half-dozen winners in the sequence and each were rewarded with a Los Alamitos daytime record payoff of $228,816.40.

“We are looking forward to getting some feedback from our horseplayers on this promotion and hopefully we do it several times in January and we will see its popularity continue to grow nationally,” Gutierrez added.

Opening night of the nighttime 2020-21 Los Alamitos Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred meet is Saturday, December 26. TVG Live On Site For Big Saturday Card At Santa Anita Park

Three Grade 1 stakes, the American Oaks (G1), the La Brea Stakes (G1) and the Runhappy Malibu Stakes (G1), jumpstart TVG's live coverage of the Santa Anita Winter/Spring meet this weekend from Arcadia, Calif. TVG, America's horse racing network, will be live on site at Santa Anita on Saturday, Dec. 26 with coverage and analysis by Todd Schrupp, Christina Blacker and Britney Eurton.

Santa Anita's Winter/Spring meet will run through June 20 and feature 95 stakes races including the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 3. Post time on Saturday is 2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT.

Saturday's $300,000 American Oaks (G1), which will be run at 1 ¼ miles on the turf., has attracted a field of ten sophomore fillies from some of the top barns throughout the country including 2019 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) champion Sharing for trainer Graham Motion. She will have John Velazquez in the irons. In addition, trainer Chad Brown will send out two contenders – Capital Structure with Joel Rosario and Duopoly with Flavien Prat.

The $300,000 Runhappy Malibu Stakes (G1) is the featured tenth race on the card and the seven-furlong contest will feature some of the fastest 3-year-olds in training. Steve Asmussen will send out the undefeated Nashville who will be making his graded stakes debut after an impressive victory in the Perryville Stakes at Keeneland in November. Regular rider Ricardo Santana Jr. will be aboard the son of Speightstown. The race will also mark the return to action for Charlatan, one of two horses in the race for trainer Bob Baffert.

On Christmas Day, TVG will be airing TVG Classics featuring highlights of major races throughout the years featuring memorable performances from Zenyatta, Gun Runner and Justify as well as some marquee events from 2020 including the TVG Pacific Classic.

In addition to opening weekend from Santa Anita, TVG will be featuring racing from Gulfstream Park, Fair Grounds, Tampa Bay Downs and more. Fans can tune in on TVG, TVG2 and the Watch TVG app which is available on Amazon Fire, Roku and connected Apple TV devices.
