NYRA To Host Whitney Two-Day Pick 6 Wager, Cross-Breed Cross Country Pick 5

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will host the Whitney 2-Day Pick 6, a special two-day all-stakes wager, kicking off with the Grade 2, $500,000 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame on Friday's card and concluding with five races on Saturday's lucrative Whitney Day card at Saratoga Race Course.

The Whitney 2-Day Pick 6, featuring a $0.20 minimum and low 15 percent takeout, includes a mandatory payout.

The Whitney 2-Day Pick 6 sequence will kick off in Race 8 on Friday at 5:08 p.m. Eastern with the Grade 2, National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame, a one-mile inner turf test for sophomores featuring a trio of contenders for trainer Chad Brown in Appraise, Mischievous Angel and Carl Spackler.

The sequence concludes with five races on Saturday's Whitney Day program, beginning in Race 6 at 3:17 p.m. with super mare Caravel, the reigning Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint winner, headlining the Grade 3, $300,000 Troy for 4-year-olds and upward going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Mellon turf.

The sequence continues in Race 7 [3:51 p.m.] with the restricted $135,000 Fasig-Tipton Lure for 4-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles over turf ahead of the first Grade 1 in the sequence in Race 8 [4:26 p.m.] as Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks-winner Pretty Mischievous takes on undefeated Maple Leaf Mel in the seven-furlong $500,000 Test for sophomore fillies.

A talented field of nine line up in the penultimate leg [Race 9, 5:01 p.m.] in the Grade 1, $600,000 Saratoga Derby Invitational for 3-year-olds going 1 3/16 miles over the Mellon turf as Grade 1-winning filly Aspen Grove will battle the boys, including recent Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational-winner Far Bridge.

The wager concludes with the 96th running of the nine-furlong Grade 1, $1 million Whitney [Race 10, 5:42 p.m.] as Cody's Wish puts his six-race win streak on the line while attempting his first win beyond one mile.

NYRA will also host a special cross breed Cross Country Pick 5 on Saturday, featuring Grade 1 thoroughbred action from Whitney Day at Saratoga Race Course and standardbred racing from the Hambletonian card at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Please note, current New York State regulations allow NYRA to accept wagering only on standardbred races that take place in New York. Saturday's Cross Country Pick 5 kicks off at the Meadowlands in Race 10 at 3:31 p.m. Eastern with the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks as Walner Payton squares off with Railee Something in the trotting Classic for sophomore fillies.

The action switches to Saratoga for the Grade 1, $500,000 Test in Race before returning to the Meadowlands for the $1 million Hambletonian [Race 12, 4:38 p.m.] as Celebrity Bambino heads a competitive group of 3-year-old trotters that includes Oh Well, Winner's Bet and Point of Perfect.

The sequence concludes at the Spa with the Grade 1, $600,000 Saratoga Derby Invitational [Race 9, 5:01 p.m.] and the Grade 1, $1 million Whitney [Race 10, 5:42 p.m.]

The Cross Country Pick 5 requires bettors to pick the winner of five select races from tracks across the country. The minimum bet for the multi-track, multi-race wager is 50 cents. Wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is available on ADW platforms and at simulcast facilities across the country with each week featuring a mandatory payout of the net pool. The Cross Country Pick 5, boasting a low 15 percent takeout, offers sequences with races from Saratoga Race Course and partner tracks across the country.

Monmouth Park To Host $500 Handicapping Contest On Saturday, Aug. 5

Monmouth Park will host a $500 Handicapping Contest consisting of races from Monmouth Park and Saratoga on Saturday, Aug. 5, with 2 NHC seats and two BCBC seats offered as the top prizes (based on 150 entries).

The contest can be played both onsite and online, with TVG, 4NJBETS, HPI and Xpressbet available as online options.

There is a non-refundable entry fee of $250 and a contest bankroll of $250.

 Contestants must bet a minimum of five (5) Monmouth Park races of at least $50 each.

The wagering format will consist of win, place, show, exacta and daily double bets.

Registration will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of the Clubhouse. For TVG, 4NJBETS and HPI, online registration will end at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Based on 150 entries, a total of $10,000 in cash will be part of the prize pool, in addition to the two NHC seats and two BCBC seats.

The top four finishers will select from NHC and BCBC seats. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top five finishers.

Laurel Park: MJC Fall Champions Handicapping Tournament Set For Aug. 19

The Maryland Jockey Club will host the fall session of its bi-annual Champions Handicapping Tournament Saturday, Aug. 19 in the second-floor clubhouse sports bar at Laurel Park.

Berths to the NTRA National Horseplayers Championship (NHC), Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC) and Pegasus World Cup Betting Championship (PWCBC) are on the line, as well as more than $55,000 in guaranteed prize money (based on 125 entries) among the top 10 finishers.

A maximum of two entries per person will be accepted at a cost of $500 each ($300 entry fee, $200 bankroll), payable by cash, credit card, money order or cashier's check. Players must be at least 21 to participate. The tournament will be limited to 300 entries.

The tournament winner will earn a minimum of $11,375 and have their choice of one of two berths to the 2024 NHC or a berth in the 2023 BCBC or 2024 PWCBC. The second-place finisher will get a minimum of $6,500 and the choice of one of the remaining three berths.

A minimum of $3,250 and the choice of the final two berths will go to the third-place finisher, and the fourth-place finisher will receive a minimum of $1,625 and the remaining berth. Players that finish fifth through 10th will earn a minimum of $1,625.

To be eligible for NHC seats, players must be an NHC tour member prior to the start of the Champions Tournament. If a player is ineligible, the NHC berth will be awarded to the entrant with the next highest tournament bankroll.

Tracks available for the tournament are Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park, Monmouth Park, Saratoga Race Course and Woodbine. From their $200 bankroll, players must make a minimum of 10 wagers at $20 per wager. Only win, place and show wagers will be considered valid.

The deadline for mail-in registration is Wednesday, Aug. 16. Registration can be made by phone or in person until noon Friday, Aug. 18. If entries are still available, players may register at the door starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Anthony Laurino of Raleigh, N.C. won the MJC's spring Champions Tournament March 26 with a final bankroll of $3,502 to top a field of 146 players. John Scheinman of Baltimore finished first in last year's fall Champions Tournament with a $1,691.10 bankroll to lead 131 entrants.

The 2024 NHC will take place March 15-17 in Las Vegas. The BCBC is Nov. 3-4 at Santa Anita, and the PWCBC will be held in January 2024 at Gulfstream Park, home of the $3 million Pegasus World Cup (G1), $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) and $1 million Florida Derby (G1).

NTRA Unveils New Logo For 25th Anniversary Of National Horseplayers Championship

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) has officially unveiled the new logo for the 25th Anniversary of the National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) which will be held March 15-17, 2024 at the Horseshoe Las Vegas. The 2024 event will commemorate 25 years of the Championship, which engages thousands of horseplayers annually playing in competitive contests across the country. Since the inception of the NHC, nearly $50 million in cash and prizes have been awarded.

“Getting to the NHC is at the top of every horseplayer's bucket list and the NTRA is thrilled to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the event this year,” said NTRA President and CEO Tom Rooney. “This new logo merges NTRA's trademark horse, with a nod to the Horseshoe Las Vegas, with the featured 25th front and center.
