Gulfstream Park: $450,000 Guaranteed Rainbow 6 Jackpot Saturday; Another Triple ForIrad Ortiz Jr.

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $450,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved Friday for the third racing day since Sunday's mandatory payout. Multiple tickets with five of six winners were each worth $16,064.30 Friday.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover into the first race of $3,235.62.

The jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 7-12, kicking off by a maiden special weight event for 3-year-olds, including Hall of Fame trainer Carl Nafzger's first starter since October 2019, Sensible Jim.

The $75,000 Silks Run, a five-furlong turf stakes carded as Race 11, will headline the Rainbow 6 sequence. Brian Lynch-trained Carotari, who was narrowly defeated in the Sam Houston Turf Sprint last time out, captured the Silks Run last year with a front-running performance.

Irad Ortiz Jr. closed in on the record for most wins by a jockey during a Championship Meet while notching his seventh straight multi-win day Friday at Gulfstream Park.

The defending two-time Championship Meet titlist rode three winners to up his win total to 131, just six winners behind the record of 137 set by Luis Saez in 2017-2018. Ortiz scored aboard aboard Lime ($2.20) in Race 1, Malibu Max ($3.20) in Race 5 and Septemberten ($13) in Race 8.

Ortiz has ridden 23 winners over the last seven programs while rapidly closing in on the record he missed equaling last season by just two winners.

WHO'S HOT: Luis Saez, a two-time Championship Meet champion who was narrowly edged by Ortiz the past two seasons, rode a pair of winners Friday, including Simply the Best ($2.20), who dead-heated with Lime in Race 1, and Blakenstein ($5.80) in Race 3.

Tyler Gaffalione also doubled, scoring with Nicholas Ross ($8.60) in Race 2 and Spend Benjamins ($31.20) in Race 9.

Laurel’s Saturday Card Features Five Stakes Races Worth $450,000

Live racing returns to Laurel Park Saturday with a nine-race program featuring five stakes worth $450,000 in purses led by the $100,000 Private Terms for 3-year-olds and $100,000 Beyond the Wire for 3-year-old fillies.

First race post time is 12:25 p.m.

The Private Terms, carded as Race 8 and run around two turns at about 1 1/16 miles, drew a field of seven led by 2-1 program favorite Maythehorsebwithu, four-length winner of the one-mile Miracle Wood Feb. 20 at Laurel. Royal Number, an impressive Laurel allowance winner Jan. 9 at Laurel and exiting a fourth in the Withers (G3) Feb. 6 at Aqueduct, is second choice at 5-2.

The one-mile Beyond the Wire kicks off the stakes action in Race 3. Favored at even money on the morning line is Street Lute, stretching out beyond seven furlongs in search of her sixth consecutive stakes victory and eighth overall. Among her rivals is Fraudulent Charge, second to Street Lute in the Dec. 26 Gin Talking and Feb. 20 Wide Country at Laurel.

Also on the card are the $100,000 Harrison E. Johnson Memorial for 4-year-olds and up going 1 1/8 miles (Race 6), and a pair of $75,000 stakes restricted to Maryland-bred/sired horses – the Not For Love for 3-year-olds and up sprinting six furlongs (Race 5) and Conniver for fillies and mares 3 and older at seven furlongs (Race 7).

Starting Saturday, following executive orders from both Gov. Larry Hogan and Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, Laurel will increase its building capacity to allow up to 400 spectators. Current restrictions and physical distancing guidelines remain in place.

Beginning Sunday, March 14, post time moves to 12:40 p.m. for the duration of Laurel's 2021 winter meet, which runs through Sunday, March 28.

Sunday's feature comes in Race 8, a second-level optional claiming allowance for older females sprinting 5 ½ furlongs led by 5-2 program favorite Trunk of Money. Race 7 is a starter optional claimer that includes new gelding Mine Not Mine, second in the Miracle Wood and third in the Private Terms last year.

Eight 3-year-olds will go one mile in Race 3, a maiden special weight where Imagine Hongkong is the lukewarm 3-1 morning-line favorite. The field of eight also includes Pharoah's Fury, a second-time starter by 2015 Triple Crown champion American Pharoah, and Dream Big Dreams, a $115,000 2-year-old in training purchase last May trained by Brittany Russell.

TVG Features Live Coverage From Santa Anita, Oaklawn Park This Weekend

Swiss Skydiver, 2020's Eclipse champion 3-year-old filly and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner, will make her four-year-old debut live on TVG this weekend in the $300,000 Beholder Mile (G1), one of two graded stakes races on Santa Anita's nine-race card.

Todd Schrupp, Christina Blacker and Britney Eurton will be live at Santa Anita with exclusive interviews and expert analysis. Swiss Skydiver is scheduled to take on seven competitors in the $300,000 Beholder Mile, her first start since finishing seventh in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) in November which concluded a sophomore season in which she won five graded stakes races, including a thrilling win in the Preakness Stakes over male rivals. Regular rider Robby Albarado will be aboard for owner Peter Callahan.

The road to the Kentucky Derby will continue through Arkansas on Saturday and TVG's Mike Joyce and Caton Bredar will be reporting live from Oaklawn Park throughout the twelve-race card featuring the $1 million Rebel Stakes (G2), a steppingstone towards the Arkansas Derby (GI) which is scheduled for April 10. The Rebel Stakes will offer 50-20-10-5 qualifying points to the top four finishers and has drawn a field of eight of some of the most promising 3-year-olds in the country. Trainer Bob Baffert, who saddled Nadal to victory in this race last year, will send out two runners – Hozier and Concert Tour – to take on the 9-5 morning line favorite Caddo River for trainer Brad Cox.

Saturday at Oaklawn will also feature the 8-year-old debut of Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) champion Whitmore for trainer Ron Moquett in the $200,000 Hot Springs Stakes. The Eclipse Award winning sprinter has won the Hot Spring Stakes for the past four consecutive years and will have Ricardo Santana, Jr. in the irons.

The 2020 Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Shedaresthedevil will also return to action on Saturday at Oaklawn in the $350,000 Azeri Stakes (G2) and face four rivals including recent Sam Houston Ladies Classic (G3) winner Letruska. The 4-year-old daughter of Daredevil will have Florent Geroux in the irons for trainer Brad Cox.

TVG will also be broadcasting from Gulfstream Park this weekend and Gabby Gaudet will be reporting live from the track with insights and interviews throughout the twelve-race card which features the $75,000 Silks Run Stakes, a five-furlong turf sprint.

In addition to racing from Santa Anita and Oaklawn Park, TVG will feature racing from Gulfstream Park, Aqueduct and more. Fans can tune in on TVG, TVG2 and the Watch TVG app which is available on Amazon Fire, Roku and connected Apple TV devices.

Gulfstream Park: Irad Ortiz Jr. Bobbleheads To Be Available With PDJF Donation

Signed bobbleheads of leading jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. will be available to ticketed patrons Saturday at Gulfstream Park for a $25 donation to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.

Online orders are also being taken at https://www.jockeysandjeans.com/

Donations will be accepted Saturday at the Hallandale Beach, Fla., racetrack beginning at 11 a.m. ET.

Jockeys and Jeans is comprised of a group of former jockeys who are dedicated in aiding jockeys who have suffered career-ending injuries by increasing awareness of their physical and emotional struggles and providing funds to rebuild their lives.

Friday's Rainbow 6 begins with the fifth race, a maiden special weight event at a mile on the turf for 4-year-olds and up. Mike Maker will saddle the morning-line favorite in Absam, making his seventh start. Trainer Christophe Clement will send out Voodoo Zip, third and beaten less than a length at a mile on the turf here Jan. 21.

Friday's sequence will have four of the six races on the turf.

Who's Hot: Tyler Gaffalione rode three winners, including the promising 3-year-old Prevalence ($2.20). Gaffalione also won aboard Too Sexy ($4.80) in Race 3 and New York Style ($6.40) in Race 6.
