Pimlico: Rainbow 6 Solved For $479,801 Payout Thursday

One lucky bettor solved the 20-cent Rainbow 6 for a $479,801.24 jackpot payout after Sky of Gold, owned and trained by William Earl Atkins, held off fellow Maryland-bred Luv Ya Bye Bye Thursday at historic Pimlico Race Course.

Sky of Gold ($23.40), a 3-year-old gelded son of Fast Anna sent off at 10-1, and Luv Ya Bye Bye (25-1) were the only two horses live to take down the jackpot heading into Thursday's eighth-race finale, a six-furlong claimer for maidens age 3, 4 and 5. Frightland, the 1-5 betting favorite, finished third but was placed second following the disqualification of Luv Ya Bye Bye for interference.

The winning combination was 1-5-5-8-6-1. Other winners in the sequence were Vinegar Veggies ($9.80) in Race 3, My Super Sally ($25) in Race 4, Swayin to and Fro ($10.20) in Race 5, Golden Can ($4.40) in Race 6 and Hagler ($9.20) in Race 7.

The Rainbow 6 had gone unsolved for seven consecutive racing days following a mandatory $569.70 payout May 8 on closing day of Laurel Park's spring meet. A total of $58,722 was put into the popular multi-race wager, which began with a carryover of $432,827.32 from the previous live program on Preakness Day May 21, when Early Voting captured the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown.

Introduced in Maryland April 2, 2015 on opening day of Pimlico's spring meet, the Rainbow 6 carryover was the largest in Maryland since it reached a state-record $1,435,080.75 over 27 consecutive racing programs before a mandatory payout of $31,028.08 to multiple ticketholders July 4, 2021.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

There will be a mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6, Late Pick 5 and Super Hi-5 wagers on a special Memorial Day holiday program Monday, May 30 to close the 12-day Preakness Meet before live racing shifts to Laurel Park for it summer stand starting June 3.

The Rainbow 6 begins anew Friday with an eight-race program starting at 12:40 p.m. The sequence spans Races 3-8 and includes a maiden special weight for fillies and mares age 3, 4 and 5 at a mile on the grass in Race 3; an entry-level allowance for Maryland-bred/sired horses also scheduled for the grass in Race 6; and an optional claiming allowance in Race 7 where Little Bit of That goes for her third straight victory.

Notes: Friday's card will have a $1 Super Hi-5 carryover of $2,129.82 in Race 1 … Hall Stables' 3-year-old Violence filly Vinegar Veggies ($9.80) split horses in deep stretch and surged late under five-pound apprentice Jean Alvelo to win Race 3 Thursday, a five-furlong maiden special weight on the turf, in 58.44 seconds over a firm course for trainer Kelly Rubley … Preakness Meet-leading rider Jevian Toledo notched back-to-back wins Thursday aboard Golden Can ($4.40) in Race 6 and Hagler ($9.20) in Race 7 … Seven-pound apprentice Jeiron Barbosa also doubled with Cupid's Strike ($14.20) in Race 1 and Swayin to and Fro ($10.20) in Race 6.

Australia: All-Stakes Derby Day Card At Eagle Farm

An unprecedented card of ten stakes races this Friday night at Brisbane's Eagle Farm Racecourse will prove a counterweight to recent weather-related disruptions. The ten races – including a trio of Group Ones, previewed below – attracted a whopping total of 156 entries plus 27 Also Eligibles.

Josh Fleming, whose race calls will be heard throughout North America, will doubtless sleep well in the aftermath! The extravaganza gets underway at 9:08 p.m. Eastern or 6:08 p.m. Pacific.

Noah's ark could have sailed to multiple victories during the last few months of racing on Australia's east coast. From Sydney's March-April “Autumn Carnival” riches to the current Brisbane “Winter Carnival,” nary a dry track has been experienced. For the second time in three weeks, a Group One race carrying the name of Doomben Racecourse will be run at Brisbane's other metropolitan track, Eagle Farm. Several stakes races from last weekend's Doomben Cup program have been incorporated into this Friday night's card at Eagle Farm, making it a bumper night of racing on a drying Soft 6 turf surface.

The Doomben Cup, Race 5, is contested under weight-for-age conditions at 1-5/16 miles. Zaaki is a red-hot 1-2 favorite to repeat last year's 7-length demolition job, which announced himself and confirmed trainer Annabel Neasham as new stars of Australian racing. More recently, in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, crowning race of The Championships at Randwick in Sydney, Zaaki was being hailed a winner before Nash Rawiller's inspired move to the outside rail on Think It Over. That moment of genius in the extremely heavy conditions, which will go down in Australian racing folklore, carried the 40-1 shot a ½-length clear of Zaaki with the show horse almost four lengths away.

The Queensland Derby, Race 8 at 1-1/2 miles, is more representative of the tremendous wagering value that abounds on Friday night's card. Dark Destroyer (7-2 favorite) and Paternal (5-1) provided the exacta in the Derby's traditional prep race, the G3 Rough Habit Plate. Pinarello (7-1) brings impressive G2-winning form from New Zealand. Caboche (8-1) looks outclassed, but is being “kept safe” by bookmakers because of the Chris Waller – James McDonald factor. (Paternal also hails from the Waller barn and will be partnered by Hugh Bowman, reigniting the “Winx Team.”) Both the Doomben Cup and Queensland Derby will carry a purse of AU$1 million for the first time.

The Kingsford-Smith Cup, Race 9, is an AU$700,000 weight-for-age sprint at 6-1/2 furlongs. Favoritism will be disputed by 3-year-old Godolphin colt Paulele (4-1) and 5-year-old New Zealand mare Entriviere (7-2), who put forth terrific efforts when filling the minor placings in Mazu's aforementioned Doomben 10,000 (also weight-for-age). Both races lead towards the showpiece event of Brisbane's Winter Carnival, the AU$1.5 million Stradbroke Handicap, at seven furlongs on June 10. It bears looking for eye-catching runs from horses who will benefit from a lighter weight under the Stradbroke's handicap conditions.

The Eagle Farm card (AUS-C) will be broadcast live on TVG this Friday night (First Post: 9:08 p.m. ET / 6:08 p.m. PT) alongside cards from Sunshine Coast (AU-A), Randwick (AUS-B), Newcastle (AUS-D). All races will be live-streamed in HD on the new Sky Racing World Appskyracingworld.com and major ADW platforms such as TVG, TwinSpiresXpressbet, NYRABets, WatchandWagerHPIbet, and AmWager. Wagering is also available via these ADW platforms. Fans can get free access to live-streaming, past performances and expert picks on all races at skyracingworld.com.

Saturday’s Cross Country Pick 5 Features Action From Belmont, Churchill Downs

The New York Racing Association Inc. (NYRA) will host a Cross Country Pick 5 on Saturday featuring stakes from Belmont Park and Churchill Downs.

Free Equibase past performances for the Cross Country Pick 5 sequence are now available for download at https://www.nyra.com/belmont/racing/cross-country-wagers.

The sequence kicks off in Race 8 at Churchill Downs at 4:22 p.m. Eastern with a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight for 3-year-olds and up that drew an overflow field of 16. Ridley's Major, a Gun Runner sophomore trained by Chad Brown, will try dirt after a pair of on-the-board efforts in a trio of turf starts. A loaded field includes the Philip Sims-trained War Campaign, who stretches out after overcoming a slow start to finish second sprinting 6 1/2-furlongs on debut in April at Keeneland; and Scotland Yard, who will look to make amends for an off-the-board effort last out over a sloppy main track at Keeneland for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.

Action switches to Belmont for the second leg [Race 8, 4:40 p.m.], a one-turn allowance optional-claiming mile over Big Sandy for 3-year-olds and up led by a pair of Brown trainees in Highly Motivated and Stage Raider. Highly Motivated finished 10th in last year's Grade 1 Kentucky Derby on the heels of a game runner-up effort to Essential Quality in the Grade 2 Blue Grass at Keeneland. He made his seasonal debut last out with a fourth-place finish in a seven-furlong optional-claiming sprint on April 16 at Keeneland. Stage Raider, by Pioneerof the Nile, is a 4-year-old half-brother to 2018 Triple Crown-winner Justify. The well-related bay colt was a three-length winner at this distance over Big Sandy last May and will make his third start of the season with Irad Ortiz, Jr. aboard.

The stakes action commences in the middle leg [Race 9, 5:12 p.m.] as the Brown-trained Haughty, a close third last out in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in November at Del Mar, makes her seasonal debut in this seven-furlong turf sprint for sophomore fillies. She will face a trio of contenders for trainer Christophe Clement in Derrynane, Breeze Easy and Anador. Chardy Party, a rallying winner of her career debut in April at Keeneland, will make her stakes debut for trainer Wesley Ward.

The penultimate leg [Race 10, 5:26 p.m.] will see a field of eight older fillies and mares travel 12 furlongs over the Churchill turf in the $160,000 Keertana Overnight. Temple City Terror, a four-time winner on turf for trainer Brendan Walsh, will look to defend her title after posting a narrow score in this event last year. The 6-year-old Temple City bay enters from a close fifth in a 1 1/16-mile turf allowance on April 14 at Keeneland. The Arnaud Delacour-trained Luck Money has hit the board in a trio of graded turf marathons since July, including the Robert G. Dick Memorial at Delaware Park, the Grade 3 Dowager at Keeneland and the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay on May 7 at Belmont.

Closing out the sequence is a six-furlong allowance sprint [Race 11, 5:58 p.m.] from Churchill featuring a field of 11 sophomore fillies led by the stakes-placed Ontheonesandtwos for trainer Norm Casse. The Jimmy Creed chestnut, who finished second in the Debutante in June at Churchill Downs, was a game second last out in an optional-claiming sprint on the Kentucky Oaks undercard. Steep opposition will be provided by Stonestreet Stables' Ari Oakley, who garnered a field-best 91 Beyer Speed Figure last out in her fifth-out maiden score for Asmussen; and Static Fire, who makes her return to action following a gate-to-wire debut win on turf at Saratoga Race Course in September for trainer Brian Lynch.

America's Day at the Races will present daily coverage and analysis of the spring/summer meet at Belmont Park on the networks of FOX Sports. For the complete broadcast schedule, visit https://www.nyra.com/belmont/racing/tv-schedule.
