Longshot Look Presented By Kentucky Downs: Returning Serve On A Closing Day Price Play

The Fanduel Meet at Kentucky Downs is underway, featuring some of the nation's largest purses and field sizes, and one of the most attractive wagering menus on the racing calendar. The Paulick Report's Longshot Look will help you get the most out of one of North America's premier turf meets.

For each card of the seven-day meet, J.D. Fox will single out a price play with his reasoning for what makes the horse worth a look when they might go overlooked.

On Wednesday's closing day card, J.D. has his eye on a horse he liked earlier in the meet, but his race was rained out and rescheduled. He'll compete in Race 9, the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile Stakes, with morning line odds of 8-1.

J.D.'s final “Scratch Saver” pick of the season comes in Race 10, where he'll spotlight #4 Play Action Pass.

Play Action Pass was third in last year's Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile, and he has won two of his last three, with allowance victories at Churchill Downs and Ellis Park. He enters with strong form, and should be near the lead.

Kentucky Downs' 2022 meet takes place Sept. 1, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, and 14. First post each day is at 12:25 p.m. Central, except for the Saturday, Sept. 10 card, which features a special start time of 11:30 a.m. Central.

Kentucky Downs Reschedules Sunday’s Last Nine Races To Tuesday

The final nine races on Kentucky Downs' Sunday card were postponed because of inclement weather and will be run Tuesday at the Franklin, Kentucky track.

The first post Tuesday will be 12:25 p.m. (CT).

A new program will be created to make the rescheduled races (Sunday's third through 11th) races 1-9. The races will not be redrawn, but all scratched horses have been reinstated into the fields. The new scratch time is 9 a.m. Monday.

“It's disappointing not to get the card in, because the turf course was perfect Saturday and starting our Sunday card,” said Ted Nicholson, Kentucky Downs' Vice President for Racing. “It actually benefited from some water because (track superintendent) Butch Lehr was cognizant of pending rain, and the course started the day very firm. While rain was intermittent, we had that one steady shower. It was a borderline call, but the safety for our human and equine participants is paramount.

“We now look forward to sunshine the next few days and to staging terrific cards Tuesday and our closing day Wednesday. We appreciate the patience shown by our horsemen, our guests and simulcast players.”

The final tournament of the King of the Turf Handicapping Challenge will be carried over to Tuesday's nine-race card and pick up where it left off Sunday with the postponement after two races. There will no new registrations and no refunds.

Gulfstream Park: Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed At $300,000 Sunday

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 gross jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $300,000 on Sunday's program at Gulfstream Park.

First-race post time is set for 12:25 p.m. (ET).

The popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for the 12 racing days following an Aug. 13 mandatory payout.

Sunday Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 4-9, headlined by the $55,000 North Miami, a five-furlong overnight handicap for fillies and mares on Tapeta, in Race 8.

Joe Orseno-trained Running Memories and Eddie Plesa Jr.-trained Miss Auramet will be the co-highweights while carrying 125 pounds, between eight and 12 pounds more than their six rivals. Running Memories and Miss Auramet finished 1-2, respectively, in their last two meetings in the Bay Harbor Islands on Tapeta and the Golden Beach on turf.

Running Memories went on to finish a disappointing fifth as the favorite in the $150,000 Chicken Fried Stakes on turf at Lone Star Park. Miss Auramet followed up her back-to-back runner-up finishes with a dominating victory in the Biscayne Park on Tapeta.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70% of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30% is carried over to the jackpot pool.
