Gulfstream: Rainbow 6 Jackpot Hit Wednesday For $358,032 Payoff

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool was hit for a $358,032.19 payoff Wednesday at Gulfstream Park. The popular multi-race wager had gone unsolved for 14 consecutive racing days.

One lucky bettor purchased a ticket with all six winners on Wednesday's nine-race card, including Soul of an Angel, who pulled off a 35-1 upset in the Race 8 feature.

Gerald James-trained South of an Angel ($74.40) rallied off a hot early pace with a wide sweep into the stretch to get the jump on highly regarded Avow and register a 2 ½-length victory in the mile optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up. Shaun Bridgmohan rode the winner, who ran a mile in a swift 1:35.74. Avow, who had to wait for room on the turn into the homestretch, made a strong kick to finish second, 10 ½ lengths ahead of Three Witches.

The Late Pick 5 paid $126,864.70.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The winning combination was 4-3-8-4-2-6.

The Rainbow 6 will start anew Thursday.

Turf Paradise Will Add Races To Cards Through Dec. 22 After Multiple Weather-Related Cancellations

A total of five cards at Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Ariz., have been cancelled this month due to poor track conditions caused by rainy weather.

Leroy Gessman, executive director of the Arizona Horsemen's Benevolent & Protective Association, told Horse Racing Nation that the problem is caused by a layer of clay in the track surface.

“It does not mix with water,” Gessman told HRN. “And when it gets wet, it's very greasy and slippery.”

A notice on Turf Paradise's website states that to make up for those cancellations, the track will be adding additional races from Saturday, Dec. 10, through Thursday, Dec. 22 (With the exception of Saturday, Dec. 17). As a result of the additional races, post times will be moved up on those dates.

Remington: Thursday’s Final Two Races Canceled Due To Heavy Fog

The final two races of Thursday night's nine-race card at Remington Park were canceled when heavy fog continued to descend on the track.

By the seventh race, the horses racing down the backstretch totally disappeared as they went into the turn and didn't reappear until after they passed the quarter pole into the stretch. In order to protect the horses and jockeys from any safety problems as there was not enough visibility, races eight and nine were canceled.

Here are the payouts for wagers following the cancellation for the last two PICK 3s, the Primetime PICK 4, and the late DAILY DOUBLE:

PICK 3 (Races 6-7-8) payout is horses 3 or 4 in race 6, the 1 in race 7, with all in race 8 for a return of $5.20.

PICK 3 (Races 7-8-9) payout is horse 1 in race 7 with all in race 8 with all in race 9 for a return of $3.35.

PICK 4 (Races 6-7-8-9) payout is horses 1,3,4 in race 6 with 1 in race 7 with all in race 8 and 9 returned $4.85.

All straight wagers and late daily double for races 8 and 9 were refunded since those races were canceled.

Remington Park racing continues Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10 with the first race nightly at 7:07pm-Central. There are now six race dates remaining in the 2022 season.
