‘All Others’ 6-5 Favorite, Fierceness 8-1 Second Choice At Conclusion Of KDFW Pool 2

With the Kentucky Derby (G1) still 23 weeks away, the pari-mutuel field of “All Other Colts and Geldings from the 2021 Foal Crop” closed as the 6-5 favorite in Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Fierceness was the 8-1 second choice.

Other horses who attracted mild interest from bettors: Breeders' Cup Juvenile third Locked (14-1); 10¼-length maiden winner Nash (18-1); 10 ½-length debut winner Knightsbridge (19-1); and maiden special weight winner and full brother to 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage, Dornoch (19-1).

Total handle for the Nov. 23-26 KDFW pool – the second of six scheduled wagering pools in advance of the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (GI) on Saturday, May 4 – was $206,800 ($163,037 in the Win pool and $43,763 in Exactas), a 27.6% increase from last year's $162,112 ($129,213 in the Win pool and $32,899 in Exactas).

This year's early Derby betting menu also included the Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager, which, for the ninth consecutive year, provided bettors with a unique opportunity to wager on select breeding stars and their entire crop of juveniles with the hope of winning next year's Kentucky Derby.

“All Other Sires” at 7-2 and Nyquist and Gun Runner progeny, both at 11-1 attracted the most attention from bettors.

Total betting on the Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager was $104,112 ($77,417 in the Win pool and $26,695 in the Exactas), was up a lofty 208.6% from last year's $33,732 ($24,557 in the Win pool and $9,175 in the Exactas).

The KDFW Pool 2 and Sire Future Wager combined to handle $310,912, up 58.8% from last year's $195,844.

Pool 1, which covered Oct. 31-Nov. 2, had total betting of $164,278 ($132,033 in the Win pool and $32,245 in Exactas). That pool also was a 43% jump from last year's $114,910.

Inaugurated in 1999, the Kentucky Derby Future Wager has been offered for a 26th consecutive year.

Other Future Wager dates are set for Jan. 19-21 (Pool 3); Feb. 16-18 (Pool 4); March 15-17 (Pool 5); April 4-6 (Pool 6). The lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will coincide with Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 5.

Edward Deicke Wins Del Mar Fall Challenge With All-In Final Race Bet

The Fall Challenge came down to the final race as winner Edward Deicke went all-in with a $3,240 win bet on number 2 Miss Lizzy. Second place finisher Mike Mulvihill also had the winner but his $2,500 win wager fell just short.

Deicke, from Hillsboro Beach, FL, finished with a final bankroll of $16,848 over Mulvihill's $13,340, plus additional prizes of $50,500 and $20,500 respectively. With prizes, Deicke takes home more than $67,000. Both players wagered their $2,000 starting bankroll on-line via TVG.

Third place finisher Cory Shorr also hit the last race, a trifecta vaulting him to $12,046 while participating on-track at Del Mar.

The top three received 2024 $10,000 Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge at Del Mar entries. Also awarded were National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) spots.

Participants vied for $115,000 in total prizes awarded to the top ten, competing from either on-track at Del Mar or online on TVG.com.

$108,589 Two-Day Carryover In Saturday’s Pick 6 At Aqueduct

Saturday's card at Aqueduct Racetrack will feature a double Pick 6 carryover of $108,589 after the multi-race wager went unsolved on Friday's nine-race program.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $2,354 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

The sequence kicked off in Race 4 as M B's Munning [No. 3, $67.50] took a 6 1/2-furlong $16,000 claiming sprint under Lane Luzzi for trainer Wayne Potts. Race 5 saw the Danny Gargan-trained Brick Ambush [No. 2, $10.60] graduate in a one-mile state-bred maiden special weight with Junior Alvarado up.

In Race 6, the co-featured $120,000 Tepin, Memorialize [No. 3, $4.40] ran down pacesetter Awesome Czech late in the stretch to score her first stakes win with Manny Franco up for conditioner Graham Motion. The Rick Dutrow, Jr.-trained Kinetic Sky [No. 4, $12.60] followed with another off-the-pace victory in Race 7, a seven-furlong optional claimer, with Irad Ortiz, Jr. up.

In Race 8, the $150,000 Autumn Days, the Carlos Martin-trained Lady Milagro [No. 2, $104.50] pulled off a massive upset in the six-furlong turf sprint to provide apprentice jockey Luis Rivera, Jr. his first stakes conquest.

With the carryover already ensured, post-time favorite Roagna [No. 1, $6.90] drew clear in late stretch of Race 9, a 1 1/16-mile state-bred turf maiden, to graduate on debut with Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano up for trainer Jim Bond.

Saturday's Pick 6 sequence begins in Race 5, the Grade 2, $250,000 Hill Prince, at 1:48 p.m. Eastern and includes the $100,000 Key Cents in Race 7 and the $150,000 Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship in Race 9. First post on the 10-race card is 11:50 a.m.

Friday's card at Aqueduct Racetrack will be bolstered by a Pick 6 carryover of $23,836 after the multi-race wager went unsolved on Thursday's nine-race program.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $702.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

The sequence began in Race 4 with Chasing Daylight [No. 1A, $4.20*] taking a one-mile $35,000 claiming tilt with Manny Franco up for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. The Mike Maker-trained Tommy Gun [No. 2, $13.60] followed in Race 5 with a dominant victory under Jose Gomez to take a 6 1/2-furlong $14,000 claiming event.

Race 6 saw the Bruce Levine-trained Fortune's Nephew [No. 6, $5.20*] turn back a resurgent Caldo Candy to graduate in a seven-furlong New York-bred maiden special weight under Kendrick Carmouche. The largest upset in the sequence came one race later in Race 7 when the Irad Ortiz, Jr.-piloted Sell Something [No. 3, $28.40] was elevated to victory in a 1 1/16-mile state-bred outer turf allowance for trainer Horacio De Paz.

The upsets continued in Race 8 as the Jimmy Ferraro-trained Sweetest Princess [No. 5, $27.60] notched a six-furlong state-bred optional claiming conquest under Luis Rivera, Jr. to ensure a carryover.
