Denali Stud’s Curlin Filly The Second To Crash Through $1M Barrier at Saratoga

A Denali Stud-consigned Curlin filly became the second horse to cross the million-dollar threshold Monday at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga when agent David Lanigan paid $1.05 million on behalf of Heider Family Stable. A Jan. 12 foal, the chestnut is the first foal from Lady T N T (Justin Phillip), a $335,000 purchase by Scott and Evan Dilworth out of the 2018 OBS March Sale. A second-out maiden winner at Saratoga for the Dilworths and trainer Joe Sharp, Lady T N T recorded the biggest victory of her career when upsetting the 2019 GIII Charles Town Oaks at odds of 37-1.

Straight Line Equine Sales To Debut at Fasig-Tipton July

Colin Brennan Bloodstock and Wolf Creek Farms, with Jay Goodwin as a contributor, will launch Straight Line Equine Sales beginning with this year's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Sale in July. The new venture will be represented by drafts at yearling and breeding stock sales, with a 'focus on providing individual sales and management services' to each of its clients.

The consignment and client relations component of Straight Line will be managed by Colin Brennan, who launched a bloodstock agency in his own name in 2019, Kristin Brennan, who helped to launch sales consignments for Calumet Farm, and Austin Winfrey, who gained experience in a variety of facets of the sales before joining his father Troy at Wolf Creek Farm once the operation was moved back to Kentucky. Troy Winfrey and Goodwin will manage horses behind the scenes.

“I am excited for the unique opportunity to co-found Straight Line Equine Sales,” said Brennan, a graduate of the Godolphin Flying Start program who spent five years as assistant to his father, noted 2-year-old consignor Niall Brennan, and two years at Stonestreet's racing and training division in Florida. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for everyone on our team and I believe collectively we will be able to satisfy clients in various sectors of the market.”

Following Fasig-Tipton July, Straight Line expects to have a presence at Saratoga and Texas in August and the Keeneland September Sale.

Donncha McCarthy To Join The Castlebridge Consignment

Donncha McCarthy, a graduate of both The Irish National Stud and the Godolphin Flying Start program and a familiar face at bloodstock sales in Europe and Australasia, is joining The Castlebridge Consignment as its Irish sales executive. McCarthy is just returning from the sales in Australia, where he worked for Bennett Racing.

“I worked a number of the sales for Castlebridge last year and whilst Bill Dwan knew I was keen to return to Australia for their yearling sales, it was agreed that I would come back to Castlebridge in Ireland this year to carry out a very similar role to Patrick Diamond, the Castlebridge sales executive based in Newmarket,” McCarthy said.

“I have also worked for Stuart Boman of Blandford Bloodstock in the past and he's asked me to help him again at the breeze-up sales so I will be working those sales with Stuart over the next couple of months between working for Castlebridge. I've already started to make farm visits with Bill in Ireland and recently travelled to Newmarket to see Andrew Mead and the rest of the team who are based there. It's a very exciting role and I'm looking forward to the future with Castlebridge”.

Castlebridge director Andrew Mead commented, “We are pleased to have Donncha back on board, he was of considerable help last year and it's great to have two well-known young industry figures such as Patrick Diamond and Donncha representing the company”.

Fellow Director Bill Dwan added: “We expect Donncha to visit a lot of farms and stables in Ireland in the coming months and he will also be meeting plenty of people at the races. We recognise that this industry is all about personal contacts coupled with delivering a professional service to clients, so we believe in investing in young guys such as Donncha and Patrick.”
