Ten Stakes Races Highlight Fall Meet At Golden Gate Fields

The 25-day fall meet at Golden Gate Fields commences this Friday, Oct. 22, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 12. A total of ten stakes races will be offered at the upcoming 8-week meeting.

Next Saturday, the one-mile, $75,000 Pike Place Dancer for 2-year-old turf fillies kicks off the stake action. On Sunday, main-track sprinters take center stage in the feature race of the day, the $75,000 El Dorado Shooter.

The El Dorado Shooter is one of two stakes at the fall meet restricted solely for California-bred or sired runners. The other, the $75,000 Bear Fan, is slated for Saturday, Dec. 11. Both California-bred stakes will be run at six furlongs on the Tapeta main track, with the El Dorado Shooter for 3-year-olds and up and the Bear Fan for fillies and mares.

Any “older horses” (3-year-olds and upward) game to take on stakes company can enter in a pair of races in November. On Saturday, Nov. 6, the marquee event of the afternoon is the Joseph T. Grace, run at one mile and a sixteenth on turf. On Saturday, Nov. 27, the $100,000 Grade 3 Berkeley Handicap at one mile and a sixteenth on Tapeta goes as the signature race of the fall meet.

Two-year-olds will be given opportunities to shine on the Tapeta throughout the fall. The Golden Nugget, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, is a six-furlong sprint. On Saturday, Dec. 4, the $75,000 Gold Rush at one mile will attract youngsters who wish to stretch out in distance. Two-year-old fillies play their hand sprinting on Friday, Nov. 26 in the $50,000 Golden Gate Debutante at six furlongs.

Other stakes on the schedule include the $50,000 Oakland for 3-year-olds and upward at six furlongs and the Miss America Stakes on Closing Day Sunday, Dec. 12 for filly and mare turf routers.

Mohaymen To Remain At Shadwell’s Kentucky Farm In 2022

Shadwell Farm's multiple graded stakes winner and promising Freshman Sire Mohaymen will stand at their Nashwan Stud facility in Lexington, Ky. for the upcoming breeding season.

Through mid-October, the 8-year-old son of Tapit is the sire of two stakes winners, including graded stakes winner Elm Drive (G2 Sorrento Stakes), 11 winners (six in debut) and 12 placed from 35 starters to date. Ranking among the top 10 first year sires, Mohaymen will stand for $7,500 live foal.

2016 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile-G1 winner and 2nd Crop Sire Tamarkuz will be standing at Blue Ridge Farm in Opelousas, La., for a fee of $5,000 live foal.

Among the first crop success for the $1.8 million-earning son of Speightstown is the graded stakes winner Red Flag and yearlings which sold up to $280,000. A half-brother to G1 St. James's Palace Stakes winner Without Parole and stakes winner She's Got You, Tamarkuz is represented by two stakes horses in 2021.

The multiple graded stakes winner Qurbaan, also by Speightstown, will stand the upcoming season at the Indiana Stallion Station in Anderson, Ind., for a fee of $2,500.

Undefeated at two, Qurbaan won or placed in nine graded stakes, including back-to-back editions of Saratoga's G2 Bernard Baruch Handicap and also was Grade 1-placed three times. His first foals arrived this year.

Consistency The Key For Stella Veloce In Kikuka Sho

The Japanese Triple Crown concludes Sunday afternoon with the running of the G1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St Leger) over a metric mile and seven furlongs at Hanshin Racecourse. With G1 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) hero Efforia (Jpn) (Epiphaneia {Jpn}) pointing towards next weekend's G1 Tenno Sho (Autumn) and G1 Tokyo Yushun victor Shahryar (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) also giving the race a miss, the Kikuka Sho is really anybody's horse race.

Stella Veloce (Jpn) (Bago {Fr}) is liable to jump as the race favourite as he goes second-up since his third in the Tokyo Yushun May 30. Orthoclase (Jpn) (Epiphaneia {Jpn}) looks to follow in the hoofprints of his sire, who romped by five lengths in soft ground in the 2013 Kikuka Sho. The son of MG1SW champion older mare Marialite (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) won his first two outings at three and closed the season with a runner-up effort in the G1 Hopeful S. (2000mT). The dark bay has just one start under his belt this season, a running-on third in the G2 Asahi Hai St Lite Kinen (2200m), two lengths behind the upset-minded Asamano Itazura (Jpn) (Victoire Pisa {Jpn}).

Titleholder (Jpn) (Duramente {Jpn}), whose own sire won the first two legs of the Triple Crown before having to miss the Leger, was second from a handy position in the Satsuki Sho before fading to sixth in the Derby. He disappointed in the St Lite Kinen, finishing last but one, but can bounce back if seeing out the trip this weekend.

American-bred Air Sage (Point of Entry) is three-for-four lifetime and has accomplished something that none of his 17 rivals can boast. Bred in Kentucky by Dr. Naoya and Marie Yoshida's Winchester Farm, the half-brother to GSW Air Almas (Majestic Warrior) and to the useful Air Fanditha (Hat Trick {Jpn}) is the lone member of the Kikuka Sho field to have won a race past 12 furlongs, having led throughout to take a second-level allowance over a mile and five-eighths at Sapporo Aug. 21.

Cairo Prince, Collected Headline Airdrie Stud’s 2022 Roster

Brereton C. Jones's Airdrie Stud has announced the farm stud fees for the 2022 breeding season.

Cairo Prince, the leading sire of 2-year-old winners in America, will stand the season at a fee of $15,000. Amongst his 23 2-year-old winners is the undefeated stakes-winner Cairo Memories, who will enter as one of the race favorites in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. The leading sire of his stallion crop by both stakes winners and graded stakes winners, Cairo Prince is approaching $6 million in 2021 earnings.

Also standing for a fee of $15,000 is the farm's popular young stallion, Collected. A Grade 1-winning son of leading sire City Zip, Collected has been represented by no fewer than 20 individual six-figure sales horses from his first crop of yearlings in 2021. An earner of nearly $3 million on the racetrack, Collected has bred books of 156, 155 and 103 mares during his first three seasons at stud.

Exceedingly popular Grade 1 Champagne Stakes winner Complexity will stand his second season in 2022 at his introductory fee of $12,500. Booked full at 158 mares in his initial season, the striking son of the hot young sire Maclean's Music ran one of the highest speed figures of 2020 when taking the Grade 2 Kelso H in 1:33 4/5 , earning a 110 Beyer. The $375,000 Mike Ryan yearling purchase was bred by the perennially successful Stonestreet Farm.

Airdrie's young roster is rounded out by the Grade 1-winning duo of Preservationist and Divisidero – both set to be represented by their first weanlings this November – as well as the talented and precocious McCraken, and a mixture of proven and ascending sires in Upstart, Include, Summer Front, Creative Cause and American Freedom.
