Bahamian Squall Filly Fastest At OBS July Sale Under Tack Finale

Hip No. 1030, a daughter of Bahamian Squall consigned by McKathan Bros. Sales, Agent, sped a quarter in :20 3/5 to post the fastest work at the distance at the sixth and final session of the under tack show for Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2020 July Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age.

The dark bay or brown filly is out of Up for Grabs, by First Samurai, from the family of graded stakes winner Love That Jazz.

Hip No. 983, a son of Laoban consigned by Coastal Equine LLC (Jesse Hoppel), Agent, turned in the session's fastest eighth, stopping the timer in :9 4/5. The bay colt is out of One Look, by Henny Hughes, a half-sister to graded stakes placed Before You Know It.

Two horses shared honors for the fastest three-eighths, clocked in :33 flat.

Hip No. 938, a 2-year-old dark bay or brown colt by Protonico consigned by Whitman Sales LLC, Agent, is out of Mongolian Changa, by Brilliant Speed, from the family of Grade 1 winner High Yield.
Hip No. 992, Chambers Creek, a 3-year-old bay filly by Goldencents consigned by Bobby Dodd, Agent, is out of Secret Song, by Dunkirk, from the family of graded stakes placed stakes winner Honolua Storm.

Hip No. 1021, a gray or roan colt by Anchor Down consigned by Stephens Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, worked the session's only quarter in :21 flat. He's out of Solo Buena, by Half Ours, a half sister to stakes winner Ide Like a Double.

A pair of youngsters worked quarters in :21 1/5.

Hip No. 904, consigned by Ends Well, Agent, is a dark bay or brown filly by Munnings out of Medaglia d'Argento, by Medaglia d'Oro, a daughter of graded stakes winner Meribel.
Hip No. 960, a bay filly by Mshawish consigned by Six K's Training & Sales LLC, Agent, is out of Nanybelle, by Bellamy Road, a daughter of Grade 1-winning OBS graduate Nany's Sweep.

There were five eighths in :10 flat.

Hip No. 913, a chestnut filly by Congrats consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, is out of Ministrone, by Forestry, a full-sister to stakes winner Forest Attack and a half sister to champion Riboletta (BRZ).
Hip No. 1022, a chestnut filly by Tapiture consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, is out of Splendid Honor, by Double Honor, a half-sister to graded stakes placed stakes winning OBS graduate Crusader's Poetry.
Hip No. 1023, also consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds, is a bay filly by Palace Malice out of Summer Rendezvous, by Forest Wildcat, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Summer Applause.
Hip No. 1027, a dark bay or brown colt by Distorted Humor consigned by McKathan Bros. Sales, Agent, is out of Tizacity, by Tizway, a daughter of stakes winner Vindy City.
Hip No. 1035, a bay colt by Orb consigned by All In Sales (Tony Bowling), Agent, is a half-brother to Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Tapizar out of Winning Call, by Deputy Minister.

The July Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age begins Tuesday, July 14 with Hip No's 1- 360. Hip No's 361- 720 will be offered Wednesday and Hip No.'s 721- 1114 will sell on Thursday.

BetMakers To Sponsor $1M Bonus For Haskell, Derby, Classic Sweep

BetMakers Technology Group will sponsor a $1-million bonus for any horse that manages to sweep the GI TVG.com Haskell S., the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Breeders’ Cup Classic. The promotion will be known as the ‘BetMakers Bonanza.’

Todd Buckingham, CEO of BetMakers, confirmed that they will offer the bonus structure for the next three years.

“We are delighted to sponsor this bonus for the next three years and hope it can attract the best horses to attempt the lucrative quest beginning with the Haskell at Monmouth Park this year,” said Buckingham. “BetMakers is committed to supporting and growing horse racing with our partners and we are keen to ensure the best horses race in our events.

“We believe the U.S. racing industry will enjoy a resurgence through Fixed-Odds wagering and by being a part of our Global Racing Network.”

Dennis Drazin, Chairman and CEO of Darby Development LLC, operators of the track, hailed the new partnership as another positive development for the Thoroughbred racing industry.

Limited General Admission Tickets For Haskell to Go On Sale

Officials at Monmouth Park have announced that 500 general admission tickets will be put on sale at noon Saturday, July 11, for the GI TVG.com Haskell S. Priced at $100 apiece, the cost includes admission, a Haskell hat a program and parking. Ticket holders will also have access to limited seating. This will be the only public offering of tickets.

“In meeting our commitment and obligations to our sponsors, horsemen and season box holders, we’re limited to offering 500 tickets to the general public at this time,” said Dennis Drazin, Chairman and CEO of Darby Development LLC, which operates the track. “We’re grateful for Gov. Phil Murphy’s leadership during these difficult times and appreciate his willingness to work with us in allowing fans on site. It’s imperative we do our part, in what has become the new normal, to help slow the spread of the virus.”

The sale will take place at the track’s website, www.monmouthpark.com. There will be no ticket sales on the day of the race and, barring any revised executive orders from the governor, there are no plans to make additional tickets available.Li

War of Will Back to Winning Ways in Maker’s Mark

Looking for his first trip to the winner’s circle since annexing the GI Preakness S. some 14 months ago, Gary Barber’s War of Will (War Front) did it toughest, but called on all his class and determination to scratch out a short-head success in the GI Maker’s Mark Mile as the Keeneland summer meeting reached its mid-point Friday.

Drawn widest in the field of 10, the handsome blaze-faced bay raced three off the fence leaving the stretch for the first time and punched the breeze from up close as High Crime (Violence) set sensible fractions of :23.19 and :46.91 in advance of fellow longshot Parlor (Lonhro {Aus}). High Crime carried a tenuous advantage into the final two furlongs, but Parlor raced under a long Florent Geroux hold as they reached the entrance to the straight and struck to the front an eighth of a mile from the line. Parlor led grimly into the final 50 yards and was looking for the line, but War of Will was kept to his task by Preakness-winning rider Tyler Gaffalione and got home half a head to the good. Favored Raging Bull (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) sat a midfield trip and hit the line with good energy to be third, just in advance of his fast-finishing stablemate Without Parole (GB) (Frankel {GB}).

War of Will failed to regain the form that saw him score at Old Hilltop in four subsequent appearances last season, his best effort coming when a close third to upstart Math Wizard (Algorithms) in the GI Pennsylvania Derby in September. Ninth after setting the pace in the GI Breeders’ Cup Classic, he resumed in the GI Shoemaker Mile S. at Santa Anita May 25, crossing the line fifth before being demoted to sixth behind Raging Bull.

“Coming into this race, if you’d asked me two weeks ago, I was a little bit nervous,” admitted David Carroll, assistant to trainer Mark Casse. “I didn’t think he was training quite as sharp as he could. But his last work was like, ‘OK he’s back.’ I felt a lot more confident. We’re happy to see him back on turf; he’s bred for it. Felt like today with the pace scenario he’d be laying close, and what a ride for Tyler. It was an unbelievable race.”

War of Will is the fourth of his tremendously successful sire’s offspring to win the Maker’s Mark Mile in the last nine years (Data Link–2012; Gary Barber’s Jack Milton–2015; American Patriot–2017) and was led out unsold at Keeneland September in 2017 before changing hands post-RNA. He fetched €250,000 from Justin Casse at the Arqana May Breeze-Up Sale the following spring.

War of Will is one of 21 top-level scorers for War Front, of which fully six are out of mares by Sadler’s Wells (3) or his prodigious son Galileo (Ire) (3). The stakes-winning Visions of Clarity is a half-sister to Spinning World (Nureyev), who carried the Flaxman silks and Cash Asmussen to a two-length victory in the 1997 GI Breeders’ Cup Mile at Hollywood Park. Visions of Clarity is also a half-sister to Rangoon Ruby (Kingmambo), the dam of 2007 G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe third Sagara (Sadler’s Wells). War of Will’s third dam includes Eclipse Award-winning sprinter and GI Met Mile hero Aldebaran (Mr. Prospector); GISW Good Journey (Nureyev); and Sea of Showers (Seattle Slew), who won the 2003 Jenny Wiley S. when it was contested as a Grade III.

War of Will has an unraced 3-year-old half-brother named Visionit (Tapit) and a yearling half-brother by American Pharoah. Visions of Clarity was bred back to War Front during the most recent breeding season.
