Not This Time Filly Flies Home in Woodbine Cares S.

Dirty Dangle (Not This Time), who defeated Souper Munnings (Munnings) in a five-furlong maiden on the synthetic track Aug. 16, became the second black-type winner for her freshman sire (by Giant’s Causeway), jumping out of the ground in the final eighth of a mile to take Saturday’s Woodbine Cares S.

One of the first to break the line, the $8,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $25,000 OBS March breezer pulled a bit but came back to jockey Sheena Ryan to sit just in behind a trio of front-runners. Favored Illegal Smile (Ire) (Camacho {GB}) joined in to make a line of four off the home corner, but Ryan bided her time, angling Dirty Dangle across heels and into the clear at the eighth pole before sprinting home smartly for the victory. With the win, Not This Time, whose daughter Princess Noor took the GI Del Mar Debutante two weeks ago, joins Nyquist and Outwork as freshman sires to be represented by two stakes winners.

Dirty Dangle has a yearling half-sister by American Freedom and a foal half-sister by Mo Town. Chambray was bred to Giant’s Causeway’s paternal grandson Mor Spirit this year. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.

Starship Jubilee Beats the Boys in Woodbine Mile

Starship Jubilee (Indy Wind) bested the boys and earned a spot in the gate for the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile with a victory in the GI Ricoh Woodbine Mile Saturday. Settling in fourth off the rail as Admiralty Pier (English Channel) clocked an opening quarter in :23.66, pilot Justin Stein checked Starship Jubilee for a stride, but they maintained their position with War of Will (War Front) running in tandem with her through a :46.14 half-mile. Shadowing the 2019 GI Preakness S. hero’s advance towards the front approaching the far turn, Starship Jubilee split rivals to launch a four-wide bid at the top of the lane. Overtaking War of Will entering the final sixteenth, the 7-year-old mare forged clear to win by a length.

“Just an unbelievable feeling,” said Kevin Attard. “This mare doesn’t get the respect she deserves. She’s a winner of 18 or 19 races out of 38 starts, I was really disappointed to see her at 6-1 on the board… just kind of forgotten about. Time after time, she comes up and proves that she’s a top horse in North America.”

“Sitting inside the three-eighths pole, around the 5/16ths pole I had tons, and I waited for a chance to tip her out and ask her to run,” said Stein. “She’s so honest and wants to win more than anybody else out there. I watched her replays…she’s just gritty. She just waited for her cue and took off like a scalded cat. She was gone.”

Claimed for just $16,000 back in 2017, Starship Jubilee won her first Grade I in last year’s GI E.P. Taylor S. and was second next out in the GIII Cardinal S. over a yielding course at Churchill Downs in November. She opened her 2020 account with four straight victories: the Sunshine Millions F/M Turf Jan. 18, the GIII Suwannee River S. Feb. 8, the GII Hillsborough S. Mar. 7 and the GII Ballston Spa S. July 25. The FL-bred entered off a fourth in the GI Diana S. at Saratoga Aug. 23.

Pedigree Notes:

Canada’s reigning Horse of the Year, Starship Jubilee is one of eight winners from as many to race from her dam, a daughter of Grade I winner Perfect Arc. Third dam Podeica was victorious in the G1 Polla de Potrancas in her native Argentina. Also the dam of the MSP Starship Nala, Perfectly Wild is represented by the 3-year- old Allegedly Perfect (Kantharos), who captured a grass allowance two back at Gulfstream in June. Perfectly Wild was bred to Malibu Moon in each of the last two seasons.

Frosted Gets Second Saturday Winner at Belmont

6th-Belmont, $61,110, Msw, 9-19, 2yo, 1m, 1:37.56, ft.
LIKEABLE (c, 2, Frosted–Dashing Debby {SW}, by Medaglia d’Oro) endured a fairly eventful trip in his rained-off Saratoga debut Aug. 22, racing wide on the turn and striking final-furlong interference before just missing by a head. Stretching out to a mile and remaining on the dirt for this second try, the $350,000 yearling was the 23-10 second choice to odds-on Engrave (Flatter) and jumped well to head them off out of the chute. Always going better than the chalk, Likeable began to widen on the turn, took a commanding advantage into the lane and drew well clear while racing on his incorrect lead for the length of the stretch. Likeable, the sixth winner for his freshman sire (by Tapit) and second on the afternoon, had 8 1/4 lengths on first-timer Rational Choice (Candy Ride {Arg}), while Engrave faded to third. The winner is a half to Bronze Star (Tapit), MSW, $195,555; Dawn the Destroyer (Speightstown), SW & MGISP, $556,405; and a yearling colt by Speightstown that was acquired by Shadwell for $800,000 at Keeneland September earlier this week. Dashing Debby, one of 11 stakes winners from the second crop of Medaglia d’Oro, foaled a Curlin colt this year and was bred back to Quality Road. Sales history: $350,000 Ylg ’19 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $49,050. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.

Galileo’s Magic Attitude Rolls in Belmont Oaks

Magic Attitude (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) made her Stateside debut in style with a late-surging victory as the heavy favorite in the GI Belmont Oaks Saturday, the first Grade I event of the track’s fall meet. Caboosing the quintet early, the even-money favorite–who was receiving Lasix for the first time–bided her time at the back as second-choice Antoinette (Hard Spun) clocked a half-mile in :49.99. Still last entering the far turn, the bay swung out three wide in the lane and unleashed a furious rally, powering clear late for a decisive victory. Saratoga Oaks victress Antoinette held second.

“The pace was a little bit of a concern,” said winning trainer Arnaud Delacour. “With a five-horse field, you never know what’s going to happen, but it didn’t change her running style as that’s how she likes to race. Javier [Castellano] timed it perfectly and she came with a good kick.”

On a potential start in the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf Nov. 7: “We’ll see. One race at a time. The [GI] Queen Elizabeth [II Challenge Cup] [Oct. 10 at Keeneland] is in 21 days and might be coming back too quick. We’ll let her tell us.”

“I really like the way she did it,” jockey Javier Castellano said. “Watching the replays, it seemed like she could be a little bit keen. She always seemed to break well out of the gate and get good forward position in Europe. Today, she broke OK. I tried to cover up a little bit. It was her first time in the country and a mile and a quarter and you always have to save something for the end. She sat beautifully behind the speed. She had a nice rhythm. When I asked her turning for home at the quarter pole, she just took off really well. I was very excited to see the way she did it today.”

Graduating at second asking in France for Haras Du Saubouas and trainer Fabrice Chappet, Magic Attitude checked in third in the Criterium de Lyon 15 days later. Victorious in the G3 Prix Vanteaux in May, she was privately purchased by Roy and Gretchen Jackson’s Lael Stables and was second in her first start for them in the G1 Prix Saint Alary June 14. The chestnut was fifth in her final European start in the G1 Prix de Diane July 5 for trainer Fabrice Chappet and was transferred to Delacour.

Pedigree Notes:

Magic Attitude is the 89th top-level scorer for the mighty Galileo and is bred on the same Galileo/Exceed and Excel cross as Group 1 winner Anthony Van Dyck. She is also one of 327 black-type winners and 221 graded winners for that Coolmore stalwart. Her dam, English Highweight and Group 1 winner Margot Did, is also the dam of GSW & MG1SP Mission Impassible (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Her recent produce includes the juvenile colt Pietrasanta (Jpn) (Frankel {GB}), who brought ¥210,000,000–the equivalent of $1,936,200–at the JRHA Yearling and Foal Sale; and a yearling colt by Heart’s Cry (Jpn).
