Together For Racing International Promotes Thoroughbred Education, Community Engagement, Workforce Development

Together for Racing International (TfRI) – a global alliance to promote and progress education, community engagement, and career opportunities in the Thoroughbred industry – has launched the website togetherforracinginternational.com.

TfRI resulted from a 2019 education forum hosted by Godolphin in Newmarket, U.K. This event gathered Thoroughbred breeding, racing, and education professionals from six countries who addressed challenges to inclusion, attracting newcomers, supporting education, and workforce enrichment. Forum attendees collaborated on a global vision and strategy to grow and sustain the thoroughbred industry. The outcome was Together for Racing International, which focuses on three pillars for development: education, community engagement, and workforce.

TfRI is a platform for connecting the world with the racehorse. The resources and inspirational content on the website will inform students, educators, parents, and industry members about available opportunities for learning and involvement. It also serves as a networking medium for countries to collaborate and support the progression of emerging programs.

TfRI is chaired by Chris Grant and developed through a network of global steering committee members from Australia, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, and the United States.

Grant was vice-chair of London's ground-breaking 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Legacy International Development Program, International Inspiration, and has moderated several editions of the global Beyond Sport Forum.

TfRI global steering committee members represent the following educational and workforce organizations: AFASEC (FR); France Galop (FR); Godolphin (Globally); Horse Racing Ireland (IRE); Irish National Stud (IRE); Kentucky Equine Talent Pipeline Project (US); North American Racing Academy (US); Racing Together (GB); The Racing Foundation (GB); and Thoroughbred Industry Careers (AUS).

“TfRI is a global connector designed to educate people about the many programs and initiatives within the worldwide thoroughbred industry,” said Erin Crady, executive director of Thoroughbred Charities of America. “It is inspiring to see the efforts in education and community engagement, as well as the various career opportunities within our industry.”

Churchill Downs To Partner With NYRA For Cross-Country Pick 5 On Friday

Churchill Downs has once again partnered with the New York Racing Association for a Cross-Country Pick 5 that included three races from Churchill and two from Aqueduct.

The race order and approximate post times (all times eastern):

Leg A: Aqueduct Race 7 (2:45 p.m.)
Leg B: Churchill Race 5 (3:03 p.m.)
Leg C: Aqueduct Race 8 (3:17 p.m.)
Leg D: Churchill Race 6 (3:36 p.m.)
Leg E: Aqueduct Race 9 (3:47 p.m.)

The 50-cent minimum wager has a 15 percent takeout and can be placed at simulcast centers and ADWs including TwinSpires.com.

Lanerie To Ride At Turfway Park In December

Churchill Downs' 19-time leading rider Corey Lanerie plans to join the jockey colony at Turfway Park for their Holiday Meet which begins on Dec. 2, according to agent Cory Prewitt.

Lanerie, who celebrated his 46th birthday on Nov. 13, will ride regularly at Turfway for the first time since their 2011 September Meet. Following the one-month meet, Lanerie plans to ride at Oaklawn Park, according to Prewitt.

Other local jockeys expected to join the Turfway Park colony are Rafael Bejarano, Declan Cannon, Gerardo Corrales, Jon Court, Chris Landeros and Edgar Morales.

Finite Favored In Chilukki Stakes At Churchill Downs

Winchell Thoroughbreds, Thomas Reiman, William Dickson and Deborah Easter's multiple graded stakes winning filly Finite was made the 8-5 morning line favorite for Saturday's 35th running of the Grade 3, $100,000 Chilukki Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Run at one-mile, the Chilukki is carded as Race 9 with a post time of 5:06 p.m. (all times Eastern). First post for the 10-race program is 1 p.m.

Finite, a 3-year-old filly by Munnings, was the narrow runner-up finisher behind Venetian Harbor in last month's $200,000 G2 Raven Run at Keeneland. Previously, the Steve Asmussen-trained Finite was on the Kentucky Oaks trail after victories in the $120,000 Rags to Riches, $300,000 G2 Golden Rod, $150,000 Silverbulletday and $300,000 G2 Rachel Alexandra. Following her fourth-place effort in the $400,000 G2 Fair Grounds Oaks, Finite underwent minor ankle surgery but returned to Asmussen's stable a few months later.

The Chilukki is named after the three-time Churchill Downs stakes-winning filly. Trained by Bob Baffert, Chilukki set two track records beneath the Twin Spires – her 1999 4 1/2-furlong debut performance in :51 and a scorching one-mile clocking in 1:33.57, breaking the 31-year track record in this event in 2000.
