3rd-Gulfstream, $50K, Msw, 3yo, 6f, post time: 1:05 p.m. ET
One week after ‘TDN Rising Star’ Mutasaabeq made a victorious sophomore debut in the Mucho Macho Man S., Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Stable is set to be represented by another son of Into Mischief in the form of first-time starter LAMUTANAATTY. Pegged as the 7-2 second choice on the morning line, the $177K Fasig-Tipton November weanling turned $700K Keeneland September yearling is out of a winning daughter of MSW Win’s Fair Lady (Dehere), a full-sister to MGSW/GISP Graeme Hall; and a half to GISW Harmony Lodge (Hennessy) and GSW Win McCool (Giant’s Causeway). Win’s Fair Lady is the dam of GSW First Passage (Giant’s Causeway), who bred GSW Berned (Bernardini). Lamutanaatty, who sold for $115K in utero at KEENOV in 2017, is bred on the same cross over Gone West-line mares as Into Mischief’s Grade I winners Authentic and Mia Mischief. TJCIS PPs

PRICEY NYQUIST FIRSTER DEBUTS AHEAD OF JANUARY SALE
5th-Gulfstream, $50K, Msw, 3yo, 6f, post time: 2:05 p.m. ET
Less than a week before he sells as part of the complete dispersal of the estate of the late Paul Pompa, Jr., UNTREATED (Nyquist) gets his career underway Saturday afternoon. A son of GSP Fully Living (Unbridled’s Song), the bay colt was knocked down for $550K at KEESEP in 2019, the most expensive of his sire’s 44 first-crop yearlings reported as sold that year. Untreated’s second dam, Half A.P. (Pulpit), is a half-sister to champion Halfbridled (Unbridled). Chad Brown trains the April foal and has given the call to Irad Ortiz, Jr. Untreated, whose year-younger half-sister by Medaglia d’Oro fetched $800K as KEESEP last fall, is cataloged as hip 1564 at Keeneland next Thursday. UNCLE MO COLTS DRAW INSIDE AND OUT GOING A MILE
7th-Gulfstream, $50K, Msw, 3yo, 1m, post time: 3:15 p.m. ET
ROSENQUIST (Uncle Mo) is a daughter of Not in Jest (Unbridled’s Song), a full-sister to ‘TDN Rising Star’ and GISW Cross Traffic, who was offered carrying this colt in utero at FTKNOV in 2017, but was led out unsold when bidding stalled out at $700K. The February-foaled bay, a $750K KEESEP acquisition, is the first foal from his dam, who is also responsible for the now juvenile colt Dr. Perry (Into Mischief), who made $690K at KEESEP in 2020; and a yearling filly by Medaglia d’Oro. First Task (Uncle Mo), a $300K KEENOV weanling, was successfully resold for $725K at KEESEP and is out of a daughter of SW Cascading (Smart Strike). The latter’s dam Teeming (Storm Cat), who produced GISW Streaming (Smart Strike) and SW Treasuring (Smart Strike), was a half-sister to GI Belmont S. winners Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy) and Jazil (Seeking the Gold), GSW Casino Drive and SW Man of Iron (Giant’s Causeway). TJCIS PPs

TOP-SELLING EXAGGERATOR COLT GETS GOING
7th-Santa Anita, $61K, Msw, 3yo, 1mT, post time: 6:05 p.m. ET
EXALTED JOY (Exaggerator) cost $400K as a KEESEP yearling, a price which was the joint most-expensive of Exaggerator’s 63 first-crop yearlings sold in 2019 and tops among his colts. The chestnut is out of Classic Joy (Kitten’s Joy), a daughter of MGSW & GISP Classic Stamp (Regal Classic), the dam of MSW Regal Conqueror (Sky Conqueror) and granddam of last year’s Breeders’ S. third English Conqueror (English Channel). Classic Joy was a $95K buyback at KEENOV in 2017. Earls Rock (Ire) (Fascinating Rock {Ire}) is an interesting foe making his U.S. debut. He was a first-out second Sept. 4 at Down Royal in Ireland to A Case of You (Ire) (Hot Streak {Ire}), who returned to take the G3 Anglesey S. in his next start. TJCIS PPs

Lane’s End Farm has announced that perennial leading sire and 2000 champion older horse Lemon Drop Kid (Kingmambo–Charming Lassie, by Seattle Slew) has been pensioned from stallion duties. The 25-year-old will remain at Lane’s End Farm to enjoy the rest of his retirement.

Lemon Drop Kid is responsible for siring 98 black-type winners and 46 graded winners worldwide to date, including Grade I winners Beach Patrol, Cannock Chase, Citronnade, Christmas Kid, Lemons Forever, Romantic Vision, Richard’s Kid, Santa Teresita and Somali Lemonade.

He is currently ranked 11th on the cumulative list of leading active sires in North America, with total combined progeny earnings of more than $97 million.

Lemon Drop Kid is also quickly establishing himself as a proven source of Grade I/Group 1 talent as a broodmare sire (67 stakes winners/23 graded winners worldwide) including Bar of Gold, Digital Age, Divisidero, Elusive Kate, Finest City, Forever Unbridled, Tamarkuz, Unbridled Forever, Without Parole, et al.

“Lemon Drop Kid has been a Lane’s End stalwart for 20 years,” said Lane’s End’s Bill Farish. “We are very fortunate to be associated with a horse like him. We want to thank the syndicate members and breeders who have supported him for the past two decades. His legacy will live on through his sons and daughters across the globe.”

A son of champion Kingmambo, Lemon Drop Kid is out of the Seattle Slew mare Charming Lassie, who is a three-quarter sister to the legendary A.P. Indy. Lemon Drop Kid is a half-sibling to graded winners Brulay and Statue of Liberty, and hails from the family of Grade I winners Gay Mecene, Wolfhound, Summer Squall, Duke of Marmalade (Ire), Ruler of the World (Ire), and Court Vision.

He won five Grade I races, including the GI Belmont S., GI Travers S. and GI Whitney H.

Bred in Kentucky by W. S. Farish & W. S. Kilroy, Lemon Drop Kid raced in the colors of Jeanne G Vance. The $200,000 KEESEP yearling was trained by Flint S Schulhofer.

Zoffany Dies Aged 13

Zoffany (Ire) (Dansili {GB}-Tyranny {GB}, by Machiavellian), a Group 1-winning racehorse and sire, has died aged 13 at Coolmore Stud due to liver failure.

“Zoffany was a great servant and he’ll be a big loss,” said Coolmore’s David O’Loughlin.

Bred by Epona Bloodstock, Zoffany was a 220,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 yearling. He won on debut in April of his 2-year-old campaign and proved an honest and tough performer throughout the season, winning five of his six starts including the G3 Tyros S. and G1 Phoenix S. for the Coolmore partners and Aidan O’Brien before finishing third in the G1 National S. He became best known the next season as the horse to almost run down Frankel (GB) in the G1 St James’s Palace S., running the unbeaten champion to three-quarters of a length before again finishing second in the G1 Prix Jean Prat.

In the mould of their sire, Zoffany’s first crop was out of the gate fast as juveniles, and he was responsible for three juvenile stakes winners at Royal Ascot in 2013: Waterloo Bridge (Ire) in the G2 Norfolk S., Illuminate (Ire) in the G3 Albany S. and Washington DC (Ire) in the Listed Windsor Castle S. His first crop would also yield the G2 Royal Lodge S. scorer Foundation (Ire), and his first Group 1 winner, Ventura Storm (Ire), who took the G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club and also won group races in France and Australia.

Zoffany has sired Group 1-winning juveniles the past two seasons, the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac victress Albigna (Ire) and last year’s National S. winner Thunder Moon (Ire), while his other group-winning 2-year-olds in 2020 were the G3 Naas Juvenile Sprint S. winner and GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf runner-up Mother Earth (Ire) and G3 Marble Hill S. winner Minaun (Ire). His other standouts include the G2 German 1000 Guineas scorer Main Edition (Ire) and G2 May Hill S. winner and G1 Irish Oaks second Fleeting (Ire). Zoffany has thus far left behind 38 stakes winners worldwide and in addition to Europe and Australia his progeny have won black-type races in the U.S. and South Africa. Zoffany had been set to stand for €20,000 in 2021, and his yearlings of 2020 included a 580,000gns filly bred by James Cloney of Cn Farm and purchased by MV Magnier from consignor Highclere Stud.
