Partial Floors Stud Dispersal Amongst Highlights Of Tattersalls December Sales

The partial dispersal of stock from the late Duke of Roxburghe's Floors Stud is set to be amongst the highlights of the forthcoming Tattersalls December Sale.

Comprising seven foals and seven mares the partial dispersal will be consigned on behalf of Floors Stud under the banner of Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber's Kiltinan Castle Stud, with the foals all selling on Friday, Nov. 27 followed by the broodmares on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Heading the draft of seven mares is the regally bred Listed placed Galileo mare Hibiscus, in foal to sire of the moment Siyouni. Out of subsequently disqualified 1000 Guineas winner Jacqueline Quest, the 7-year-old Hibiscus is an own sister to Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Line of Duty and a half-sister to Royal Ascot winning multiple 2020 Listed winner Onassis.

Two half-sisters to the great Attraction also look set to attract plenty of attention, led by the Grade 3-placed Federation, in foal to proven international Group 1 sire Starspangledbanner. By Motivator, Federation's 2-year-old daughter by Shalaa made an impressive winning debut in Japan and confirmed her promise when runner up in the £220,000 Momiji Stakes on her second and latest start. Federation is joined by her Cape Cross half-sister Fusion who is not in foal.

Another outstanding broodmare synonymous with the Floors Stud legacy is the Group 1 producer Comic, dam of Hong Kong legend Viva Pataca and dual Grade 1 winner Laughing. Her listed-winning granddaughter Twitch, attractively covered by 2019 2000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia, is another eye-catching mare in the part dispersal, as is the young winning Redoute's Choice mare Deep Inside, in foal on a February cover to the great Lope de Vega.

The team of mares is completed by the Galileo mare Lady Glinka, from the outstanding Moller family of Sir Percy and Percy's Lass, in foal to Time Test and the very well-bred winning Street Sense mare Merry Jaunt. Out of the Juddmonte-bred Grade 1-winning and Grade 1 winner producer Light Jig, Merry Jaunt's two winners to date include the Listed placed 3-year-old Companion and she is in foal to top young sire Night Of Thunder.

Five of the above mares, Federation, Fusion, Hibiscus, Lady Glinka, and Merry Jaunt also have foals in the part dispersal, all by top sires with 2020 classic or Group 1 winners to their names. Federation has a filly foal by Lope de Vega, Fusion a colt by Siyouni, Hibiscus a colt by Lope de Vega, Lady Glinka a filly by Zoffany and Merry Jaunt a colt by Australia.

The septet of foals is completed by a Time Test filly out of proven group producer Dusty Answer and the Invincible Spirit filly out of the Danehill Dancer mare Prance, who is a half-sister not only to last year's 2000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia, but also recent Group 1 Dewhurst winner St Mark's Basilica.

Commenting on the Floors Stud part dispersal, Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said;

“The late Duke of Roxburghe was a passionate and hugely successful owner/breeder and left a lasting legacy which was never more obvious than at Book 1 of the recent October Yearling Sales where two of the six Floors yearlings sold for more than one million guineas. As with so many dispersals it is tinged with sadness, but we are proud that Tattersalls has been entrusted with the Floors Stud partial dispersal and confident that it will be amongst the highlights of Europe's premier foal and breeding stock sale.”

Simon Marsh, general manager of Kiltinan Castle Stud, added;

“We are honored to have been asked to handle the partial dispersal on behalf of Floors Stud. Guy Roxburghe was a great friend and the mares and foals being sold are a wonderful and lasting testament to his commitment and success as a Classic winning breeder.”

Stay Thirsty Colt On Top At Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings Sale

A colt by Stay Thirsty topped the 2020 edition of the Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings sale, held Monday at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, Calif.

Stay Thirsty led all California-based sires in earnings in 2018 and 2019 and is the state's leading sire by blacktype stakes winners in 2020. The Grade 1 Travers Stakes-winning son of Bernardini sired two of the sale's top three offerings.

Fasihuddin went to $110,000 to purchase the second most expensive colt of the day in Hip 51, a colt by Stay Thirsty out of the winning Malibu Moon mare Moon River Gal. Lovingier.

Nyquist, current leading first crop sire by Grade 1 winners, was responsible for the sale's top filly, which sold for $135,000 as Hip 75. Stakes Winner Mobil Solution Tops Ohio Mixed Sale

The Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Mixed Sale took place on Oct. 15 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Delaware Ohio, spearheaded by the $88,000 purchase of Ohio-bred year-end award winner Mobil Solution.

Over 150 people turned out on a Thursday afternoon amidst a festive setting at the historic Delaware County Fairgrounds. Seventy-four lots went through the auction ring, with 62 changing hands for revenues of $432,300 and an average sale price of $6,972. Most of the winning bidders were on-site but several horses were purchased through the online and phone-in bidding options.

The sale topper was Hip 12, the Ohio-bred Mobil Solution. Sold by the Estate of Gerald Silver, the multiple stakes-winning 5-year-old gelding was acquired by Carmine Agnello for $88,000. The son of top Ohio sire Mobil will now be trained by Jeff Skerrett.

Mobil Solution was Ohio's champion 3-year-old male of 2018, and last year's champion Ohio-accredited male. He's an eight-time stakes winner with earnings of more than $500,000. Just two days before the sale, Mobil Solution won a Thistledown allowance race by three-quarters of a length for trainer Michael Rone.

The sale's top yearling was Wildcat Bill, a first-crop Wildcat Red colt who sold to William Spitler for $26,000.

The Ohio-bred colt is out of the winning Quiet American mare Polite Company. His extended family includes Peruvian champion Al Kadir, Puerto Rican champion Awesome Warrior, Jamaican champion Sorrentino's Star, and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Val d'Enchere. He was consigned by Stallion Ventures.

“What a fantastic day for Ohio racing,” said OTBO executive director Mike Annechino. “The sales committee of the OTBO, along with the support of the Ohio HBPA and all its horsemen and women, worked extremely hard to provide an attractive marketplace for both buyers and sellers. The horses that went through the ring looked spectacular and offered tremendous value in all categories. The excellent sales results prove once again that racing in Ohio is the best bet in the business.”

The Ohio racing program offers year-round racing with 43 stakes races for Ohio-breds totaling over $3.6 million in annual purses.

Authorized Colt Leads Closing Session Of Tattersalls October Book 3

Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale came to a close with a strong final session to mirror the resilient trade across Books 1 and 2, and resulted in rises in turnover and median and a clearance rate of 85 percent.

The top lot on the second and final day of Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale came late in the evening when the Authorized colt out of the New Approach mare Sweet Rose was knocked down to Alex Elliot for 90,000 guineas (US$122,068). The sale represented the fifth-highest price over the two days of Book 3.

Consigned by The Castlebridge Consignment, the half-brother to the Listed winner Scentasia was the subject of a prolonged bidding duel between Elliot and Jedd O'Keefe. The colt's granddam White Rose and great granddam Wild Romance were both champion 2-year-olds in Germany.

“Long day waiting for this chap, but worth waiting for him!” exclaimed Elliot. “He is going to go to Ireland for a client, he has got lots of options. He is by a sire that we love, they don't make them in Europe anyway as Authorized is in Turkey. This colt could run next year on the flat – he is a brother to a 106 rated filly – or we can keep him and we can go the National Hunt route.

“He is a beautiful horse, had a great outlook, vetted good, and also has French premiums so the list of options is endless.”

Tate Strikes for Night Of Thunder Colt

The second highest price on the second day of October Book 3 was achieved by the Night Of Thunder colt out of the Rock of Gibraltar mare Moonstone Rock who was knocked down to trainer James Tate for 46,000 guineas (US$62,382) on behalf of Rabbah Bloodstock.

“Obviously Night Of Thunder has done incredibly well so we were looking for his stock,” said Tate. “We thought he was a really lovely example of the stallion and really liked the way he walked around the ring. Fingers crossed he will be a good horse.”

Sean Gollogly with his son, also Sean, bred the April-born first foal who was sold by Eric Cantillon's Plumton Hall Stud.

“I am delighted for the Golloglys,” said Cantillon. “It is a great price. We have had the horse since January when he was weaned and he has always been a nice horse, but the price has surprised us. The stallion has been doing very well and perhaps it was good to be a big fish in a small pond.

“They are small breeders near Epsom and it is great for them, the Golloglys are very good friends.”

Night Of Thunder is the leading second-crop sire in Europe and his first two crops have featured 17 group/listed winners and 26 stakes performers.

Time Test Filly to Nick Bradley Racing

The top-priced filly of the day was a daughter of first crop stallion Time Test out of the Canford Cliffs mare Leap of Joy, who was knocked down to Nick Bradley Racing for 45,000 guineas (US$61,026). She was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment on behalf of breeder Marston Stud.

“She had a Book 1 physical to my mind,” said Bradley, adding: “The 45,000 guineas was more than I wanted to spend and underbidder Federico Barberini is a fair judge, and generally if I am on one then he is on one, and he made me pay! She is a belting physical and she will join Richard Fahey.”

Time Test, who stands at The National Stud in Newmarket, was a two-time Group 2 winner for Roger Charlton and was placed in the Group 1 Eclipse Stakes. He is a son of Dubawi whose sons at stud include the 'hot' young stallions Night of Thunder and New Bay.

“It is all testament to everyone who used Time Test,” said The National Stud's Tim Lane. “We all know what can happen in the spring and coming through to the autumn. He stamps them, they have got the Dubawi middle, great action and very good minds.”

Bradley, who has enjoyed a spectacular year on the racecourse in 2020, has had a busy sales season having bought “20-something” yearlings and commented:

“I have sold nearly all of them already. Everything I bought in Book 2 has sold out, I own 22 fillies and not one colt. My theory is that if I won the Dewhurst, it would have to be by a fashionable stallion then I would want to be selling the horse on and then the owners say 'why are you trying to sell it on?'

“If we won the Cheveley Park or the Fillies' Mile the value will be there all the time, then I won't be in a rush to sell them and the owners can live out their dreams. The GB bonus helps as well – we complain about prize-money but there is twenty grand there for winning a race.”

The Tattersalls October Yearling Sale comes to a conclusion with Book 4 starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
