Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale Revises Schedule, Location

Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale is now set to take place over two days at Park Paddocks, Newmarket on Monday, Sept. 21 and Tuesday, Sept. 22, with Part II taking place directly after the September Yearling Sale on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The revised schedule is in response to the relocation of the sale to Park Paddocks, Newmarket. The remaining Tattersalls Ireland sales program for 2020 will stay in Ireland and any yearling vendor not wishing to sell in Newmarket will be accommodated in the new yearling section at the Tattersalls Ireland Flat Foal and Breeding Stock Sale on 13 November, entries for which are now being taken.

The sale will commence on Monday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m.

Amongst a host of high class yearlings, the 2020 catalog features the half-sister to Dandalla, the half-sister to Minzaal and the half-brother to yesterday's Group 3 Fairy Bridge Stakes winner Champers Elysees. All yearlings cataloged and offered at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale are eligible for the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes.

Commenting on the revised schedule for the September Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Matt Mitchell said;

“Following the decision to move the September Yearling Sale to Tattersalls Park Paddocks in Newmarket and as a result of the feedback from vendors, the two-day format for the September Yearling Sale and Part II can now be confirmed. By having the sale over two days, we believe we will be able to provide the best marketplace possible. The introduction of a new yearling section in to the November Flat Foal & Breeding Stock Sale has given vendors a viable alternative in respect of where they wish to sell their yearlings.”

Old Forester Colt Tops Canadian Premier Yearling Sale

A son of perennial leading sire Old Forester led the way at the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Division) Canadian Premier Yearling Sale, which took place Wednesday at Woodbine.

Wednesday's auction saw 142 horses sold for revenues of $2,795,300 (Canadian), down 17 percent from last year's renewal when 157 yearlings brought $3,381,400.

The average sale price fell 8 percent to $19,685 from $21,538. However, the median price rose 11 percent on Wednesday to $14,500 after finishing at $13,000 in 2019. The buyback rate finished at 28 percent, compared with 36 percent last year.

John Di Scola purchased Wednesday's sale-topper, an Old Forester colt, for $90,000 (Canadian).

The chestnut colt, offered as Hip 15, is out of the stakes-placed Smarty Jones mare Holidaysatthefarm, who is the dam of three winners from as many runners. Bred in Ontario by Whitford Bloodstock, the colt hails from the family of Grade 2 winner Wishing Gate and Grade 3 winner Rich in Spirit.

Cara Bloodstock consigned the sale-topper, as agent.

Two horses tied for the day's second-highest price, each bringing $82,000 (Canadian).

Hip 119, a Mr Speaker filly, went Jim Menzies. The bay filly is the first foal out of the unraced Proud Citizen mare She Stands Proud, from the family Canadian champion Woodcarver and Grade 3 winners Grand Bili and Firm Dancer.

The filly was bred in Ontario by Gustav Schickedanz, and she was consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent.

Schickedanz and Hill 'n' Dale were also responsible for the other half of the second-highest price, Hip 136, a Langfuhr colt named Langstaff Road who sold to Derek Chin.

Langstaff Road is out of the stakes-placed City Zip mare Sweet Bama Breeze, whose four foals to race are all winners. He is a half-brother to stakes winner Will She and stakes-placed Sweet Grass Creek, and he is a full-sibling to stakes-placed Sweet Crimson and winner Wandofuhr.

Dubai September Sale Catalogs 52 Entries

As the UAE racing season kickoff approaches on Oct. 29, the Racing in Dubai September 2020 Sale is set for Saturday, Sept. 12 sponsored by Azizi Developments.

The sale will take place within the saddling enclosure of Meydan Racecourse at 6:45 p.m. Viewing of the 52 lots will take place Sept. 10-11, from 8-10 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. on each day, at Meydan Quarantine (NOFA Stables).

The highest rated horse on turf Nordic Lights (Lot 36) is on offer, a 105-rated Dubai World Cup Carnival winner in February 2019. Also for acquisition are twelve Dubawi's, with the former Saeed bin Suroor trained galloper, Alfurat River (Lot 19), rated 83 on both surfaces.

Looking at all the lots on offer, twelve meet the minimum rating requirement of 90 to contest the DWC Carnival, including Symbolization (Lot 3), Oasis Charm (Lot 18) a past winner at the Dubai World Cup Carnival in January 2019, Lucious Tiberius (Lot 37) and First Contact (Lot 45).

All horses are to be collected on Sunday, Sept. 13, between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. from Meydan Quarantine (NOFA Stables) with appropriate transport.

Midshipman Filly Tops Minnesota Yearling Sale

The Minnesota Thoroughbred Association's 2020 yearling sale took place Sunday, led by a $42,000 Midshipman filly.

A total of 34 Minnesota-bred yearlings changed hands during the auction for revenues of $359,800, down 34 percent from last year's auction when 44 horses brought $549,000. The average sale price fell 22 percent to $9,724 from $12,477.

Sunday's auction was topped by Hip 43, Harlow's Harmony, a Midshipman filly who sold to Barry and Joni Butzow for $42,000.

The bay filly is out of the stakes-winning Sahm filly Sahm Sweetheart, who is the dam of two winners from three runners, including stakes winner Dazzlingsweetheart and stakes-placed Blumin Sweetheart. Harlow's Harmony hails from the family of Grade 3 winner He's Vivacious and stakes winners including Plana Dance, Heliskier, and Gypsy Melody.

The sale-topper was bred in Minnesota and consigned by Mary and Eric Von Seggern. They finished the sale as the leading consignor by gross, with four horses sold for a combined $91,800.

Novogratz Racing Stable and trainer Mac Robertson secured the auction's second-most expensive horse, Hip 30, a Fed Biz filly, for $35,000.

A dark bay or brown filly out of the winning Sky Mesa mare Mesa Mirage, she is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Mister Banjoman and a full-sister to the winner Dreaming Biz. Her page features Grade 1 winner Cool and English Group 2 winner Mountain Kingdom.

Almar Farm partners bred the filly in Minnesota and consigned her at the sale.
