Angel Bleu To Wait For The French Guineas

Dual Group 1 winner Angel Bleu (Fr) (Dark Angel {Ire}) will pass on the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas on Apr. 30 and wait for the May 15 G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains in France. Successful in the G2 Vintage S. in July, the grey earned a pair of Group 1 wins in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at ParisLongchamp and in the Criterium International at Saint-Cloud, both in October. The Marc Chan silkbearer resumed with a third-place effort in the G3 Greenham S. at Newbury on Apr. 16.

Trainer Ralph Beckett said, “Angel Bleu certainly won't run [in the Guineas]. He is going to go to France. He is in good shape. It is just the ground.

“There is the slight element that the form book indicates all his best form is round a bend. There is an element of that as well.”

In other Guineas news, trainer Dermot Weld indicated that Apr. 2 G3 Ballylinch Stud “Priory Belle” 1000 Guineas Trial S. victress Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) would skip the fillies' equivalent in Newmarket and wait for the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches.

“I just feel that she might appreciate more time since her group win at Leopardstown and her style of running might suit Longchamp better than Newmarket,” Weld told Racing Post of the Moyglare Stud homebred on Wednesday.

Tenebrism Tops 16 in 1000 Guineas

Undefeated Tenebrism (Caravaggio) is the 11-4 early choice among 16 confirmations for Sunday's Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. Long-time ante-post favourite Inspiral (GB) (Frankel {GB}) was ruled out of the fillies' Classic Sunday. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, the G1 Cheveley Park S. heroine will attempt to give the trainer his sixth win in the race in seven years. O'Brien may also be represented by maiden winners Toy (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

Included among Irish-breds who are also possible to run Sunday are Group 3 winner Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) and G1 Moyglare Stud S. victress Discoveries (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}), a full-sister to Irish 1000 Guineas scorer Alpha Centuri, also trained by Jessica Harrington. Homeless Song, tackling a mile for the first time, may sidestep Sunday's race in favor of the French equivalent May 15. However, one likely to favour of staying local rather than a trip to ParisLongchamp is G3 Fred Darling S. winner Wild Beauty (GB) (Frankel {GB}), who is Godolphin's sole representative in the race.

Represented by his first Classic runner, James Ferguson is on course to saddle G3 Prestige S. scorer Mise En Scene (GB) (Siyouni {Fr}), fourth in the Fillies' Mile over the 1000 Guineas track and trip, before running down the field when making the trip to Del Mar for the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

David Redvers, racing manager for Qatar Racing, who own the filly, explained, “She was possibly unlucky not to finish second at Newmarket. If she finished second, she would be among favouritism at the moment.”

“The race didn't work out at all for her in the Breeders' Cup. She was poorly drawn, went forward, was pushed wide and the whole thing was a non-event.”

Mise En Scene, currently an 11-1 chance with Coral for the Guineas, will be reunited with Cieren Fallon.

“Oisin Murphy rode her in a piece of work on Tuesday morning and was delighted with her,” he said. “She seems to have come forward very well. She hardly blew a candle out afterwards and didn't get out of second gear, apparently,” added Redvers.

“We know she handles Newmarket and a straight mile should not provoke any problems at all. You never know until fillies run how they are going to go.”

“Physically and mentally, she has appeared to have done extremely well and we can only hope and keep our fingers crossed that she gets a bit of luck in running and proves how good she is.”

Malavath (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), runner-up on Breeders' Cup day last fall, bested Zellie (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) when they met in Deauville's G3 Prix Imprudence on heavy ground last month and the duo could meet again. Tom Marquand gets the call on the latter.

Also included in the Classic lineup are G3 Nell Gwyn S. heroine Cachet (Ire) (Aclaim {Ire}), who bids to give trainer George Boughey his first Classic success, Hello You (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), and recent maiden winner Ameynah (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}).

Frankel’s Homeless Songs Bursts Into The Guineas Picture

Another Classic trial, another TDN Rising Star in the headlines as Moyglare's Homeless Songs (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) surged to an impressive success in Saturday's G3 Ballylinch Stud “Priory Belle” 1,000 Guineas Trial S. at Leopardstown. Things had gone awry since her debut defeat of Agartha (Ire) (Caravaggio) over this seven-furlong trip and course in July, but Dermot Weld had the homebred fine-tuned for this competitive affair and all roads now lead to the May 1 G1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. Held up worse than mid-division by Chris Hayes after missing the break, the 6-1 shot let it all play out ahead until being unleashed two out. Producing a scintillating effort down the outer to swamp her old rival passing the furlong pole, the homebred had a length in hand at the line over Agartha, who was racing under a three-pound penalty with Villanova Queen (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) denying the 5-4 favourite Sacred Bridge (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}) third place 3/4 of a length further away. “She'd been working extremely well and is a quality filly with a lot of pace,” Weld said. “That was a very good performance from her-things didn't go her way last year, but I was confident she would come back this year and show what she was capable of. We'll see how she comes out of this and I'll speak with Eva Maria [Bucher-Haefner], but I would say Newmarket is a strong possibility. She may well get 10 furlongs in time.”

Homeless Songs, who had slipped from the radar having been only fifth as Agartha filled the runner-up spot in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. at The Curragh in September and sixth in the course-and-distance G3 Killavullan S. the following month, is a half-sister to the ill-fated Listed Orby S. winner Reve de Vol (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) who was also placed in the G2 Champions Juvenile S. and G3 Royal Whip S. Bred on the same cross as Adayar (Ire), she is the second foal out of Joailliere (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) who was placed in the G3 Concorde S., G3 Park Express S. and G3 Gladness S. before gaining that vital black-type success in the Listed Frankfurt Sprint Trophy.

Joailliere's unraced dam Majestic Silver (Ire) (Linamix {Fr}) is also responsible for the G3 Dance Design S. and G3 Meld S. winner Carla Bianca (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) and the G2 Beresford S. runner-up True Solitaire (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}). She is out of the listed scorer Diamond Trim (Ire) (Highest Honor {Fr}), dam of this stable's star stayer Profound Beauty (Ire) (Danehill) whose winning exploits included seven black-type contests and who was also runner-up in the G1 Irish St Leger. Diamond Trim is a daughter of the Stud's famed In Anticipation (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), which connects her to the likes of Irresistible Jewel (Ire) (Danehill), Princess Highway (Street Cry {Ire}), Royal Diamond (Ire) (King's Best) and Mad About You (Ire) (Indian Ridge {Ire}). Joailliere has the 2-year-old colt Time Tells All (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) and a yearling full-brother to Homeless Songs in the wings.

Frankel Filly A New Rising Star At Leopardstown

Thursday's Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Leopardstown saw the latest TDN Rising Star for Frankel (GB) in Moyglare Stud's Homeless Songs (Ire) as the homebred made an impressive winning debut for the Dermot Weld stable. A half-sister to this year's Listed Orby S. winner Reve de Vol (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}), the bay who holds an entry in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. was settled towards the rear early by Oisin Orr. Making eyecatching progress around the outer to get within hailing distance of the leaders passing halfway, the 8-1 shot devoured the ground in the straight to overhaul the solid yardstick Agartha (Ire) (Caravaggio) with half a furlong remaining before staying on powerfully to score by two lengths. There was another length back to another filly with experience in a decent maiden in Smile of Love (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}), with Ballydoyle's Twinkle (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), the full-sister to Anthony Van Dyck (Ire), coming home in fifth.

“It was impressive,” Weld said of the 15th TDN Rising Star for her sire. “She's been working very nicely at home and I thought she'd be tough to beat on the day, but inexperience had to be a concern first time. She was green early on and Oisin took his time on her, which was the plan. She could be very talented. The Moyglare would be the plan for her and we'll maybe have one start between now and then. She's a lovely, beautifully-bred filly and she's a stayer with speed. Please God there is plenty to look forward to.”

Bred on the same cross as Adayar (Ire) and the afternoon's Newmarket maiden winner Frankella (GB), as well as the smart Dream Castle (GB) and Mostahdaf (Ire), Homeless Songs is the second foal out of the talented Joailliere (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) who also scored at the first time of asking by seven lengths as a 3-year-old over this trip at Gowran Park in 2015. Pitched straight into the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas, she was a touch over-awed in ninth there before going on to place in the G3 Concorde S., G3 Park Express S. and G3 Gladness S. and win the Listed Frankfurt Sprint Trophy. Her aforementioned first foal Reve de Vol had been third in last year's G2 Champions Juvenile S. before winning the Orby over 10 furlongs and is expected to stay a mile and a half by the Ger Lyons stable.

Joailliere's unraced dam Majestic Silver (Ire) (Linamix {Fr}) also produced the G3 Dance Design S. and G3 Meld S. scorer Carla Bianca (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), who was also twice a winner at listed level and fourth in the 2013 G1 Moyglare Stud S., and the G2 Beresford S. runner-up True Solitaire (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}). She is out of the listed winner Diamond Trim (Ire) (Highest Honor {Fr}), dam of the star stayer Profound Beauty (Ire) (Danehill) whose winning exploits included seven black-type contests and who was also runner-up in the G1 Irish St Leger. Her daughter of Dubawi, Rose de Pierre (Ire), was a dual listed winner and runner-up in the G3 Athasi S. Diamond Trim is out of Moyglare's gold-mine mare In Anticipation (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), linking her to the luminaries Irresistible Jewel (Ire) (Danehill), Princess Highway (Street Cry {Ire}), Royal Diamond (Ire) (King's Best) and Mad About You (Ire) (Indian Ridge {Ire}). Joailliere's yearling colt is by Sea the Stars (Ire), while she also has a 2021 full-brother to the winner.
