Churchill Filly Leads The Way At The SGA Yearling Sale

A filly by Churchill (Ire) out of the dual listed-placed Rabiosa Fiore (GB) (Sakhee's Secret {GB}) emerged as the €200,000 top lot during Saturday's SGA Yearling Sale in Milan. Consigned by Razza Vedano, the Mar. 6 foal (lot 28), named Rinnovati (Ity), is a half-sister to the two-time stakes winner Amalaura (Ire) (Raven's Pass). Another half-sister, the Saxon Warrior (Jpn) filly Rage Of Bamby (Ire) graduated at Leicester on Sept. 6. Marco Bozzi was in action for the relative of French Classic heroine East Of The Moon (Private Account).

Bozzi also struck for seven other lots on Saturday, shelling out €90,000 for another Vedano draftee in lot 25, a son of Sea The Stars (Ire) out of Listed Premio Terme di Merano heroine Orange Sun (GB) (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}). That sire had topped the 2021 edition of the sale with a €120,000 colt. Originally a 30,000gns Tatteralls December foal, the colt is a half-brother to a pair of winners. Third dam Field Of Hope (Ire) (Selkirk)'s best day in the sun was a victory in the 1999 G1 Prix de la Foret.

Also from Vedano was lot 15, the Zoffany (Ire) colt Interstellar (Ity), out of the Group 3-placed Irene Watts (GB) (Miswaki Tern), who hammered for €100,000 to Micchiche' Gaetano. He is a half-brother to Il Grande Gatsby (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}), who has won at the listed level in Italy and ran third in the G3 Premio Parioli.

The sale got off to a fast start with lot 4, a colt by Holy Roman Emperor (Ire) out of Listed Criterium Femminile victress Biz Bar (GB) (Tobougg {GB}), making €85,000 from Antonio Caracciolo. The bay's sire was also responsible for the smart G2 Clipper Logistics Boomerang Mile hero Jadoomi (Fr) in Ireland on Saturday. From the Allevamento Le.Gi. consignment, the colt is a half-brother to six black-type horses, anchored by G1 Gran Premio di Milano scorer Biz The Nurse (Ire) (Oratorio {Ire}), and the group winners Misterious Boy (Ire) (Arcano {Ire}) and Biz Power (Ire) (Power {GB}).

Another Coolmore sire was in the limelight shortly thereafter, as lot 12, a Le.Gi.-consigned filly by Wootton Bassett (GB) named Snow Roses (Ity) caught the eye of Powerstown Stud at €70,000. She had passed through the Arqana December ring for €85,000 as a foal. Her dam was twice stakes-placed, and is a half-sister to group winners Voice Of Love (Ire) (Poet's Voice {GB}) and Time Chant (GB) (War Chant).

Le.Gi. was also the consignor on record for lot 32, a Gleneagles (Ire) filly, who made €76,000 on the bid of Immobiliare Casa Paola. She had been a €30,000 Goffs November buyback last year. The daughter of Sopran Enery (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) is a half-sister to the G2 Premio Oaks d'Italia winner Auyantepui (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}), while under the G3 Italian 1000 Guineas-winning second dam Sopran Londa (Ire) (Danehill) is the G1 Italian Derby hero Cima De Triomphe (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) among others.

Razza del Sole offered Milano City (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}) (lot 22) on Saturday, and Valfredo Valiani snapped up the son of dual listed winner Mujadil Lachy (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) for €75,000. His well-related dam is a half-sister to a trio of stakes winners led by G3 Premio Tudini and G3 Premio Omenoni scorer Titus Shadow (Ire) (Titus Livius {Fr}).

From a catalogue of 158, 135 yearlings went through the ring, with 92 (68.1%) finding new homes for a gross of €1,852,500. The average increased to €20,136 (+7.4%), however the median dipped 16.7% to €10,000.

Boomerang Rivals Fail To Catch Front-Runner Jadoomi

There are few forces more unstoppable than a trainer on a roll and, in the case of Simon and Ed Crisford, the father and son combination maintained their irresistible run of form on Longines Irish Champions Weekend when Jadoomi (Fr) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}) burned his rivals off from the front in the G2 Clipper Logistics Boomerang Mile.

Boomerangs are designed to come back but there was no catching Jadoomi under Christophe Soumillon. The 4-year-old was stretching his unbeaten run this season to three and, after recording back-to-back Group 2 successes, connections are contemplating a tilt at the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. at Ascot on Champions Day.

Ed Crisford said, “He didn't have a penalty for winning at Goodwood and, when the rain came, I was so delighted as he likes to get his toe in. I think Christophe [Soumillon] made it very simple as we wanted to go forward.”

He added, “The Queen Elizabeth II S. could be an option. He's not in the race but we may have to consider supplementing him.”

And on that Leopardstown triumph, the Crisfords can dare to be bold with Jadoomi. He was good in winning the Celebration Mile at Goodwood, but Saturday's Leopardstown triumph represented a career best by some way as he pulled four lengths clear of Glounthaune (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), who led home a bunched finish for the minor money.

The win produced one of the loudest cheers of the afternoon, with Jadoomi sent to post a rock-solid 9-4 joint-favourite, and Crisford put the 4-year-old's improved form this season down to him being gelded.

“He's improving. We gelded him in the summer and I think it has made a huge difference to him. He's a very good horse and there should be more to come. He's won a lot of prize-money there so perhaps we could entertain supplementing for the Ascot. We'll have to have a sit down and chat about it with the owner.”

Out of the winning South Sister (GB) (Sakhee), Jadoomi is the best of three to race for the 11-year-old. Her latest foals are the juvenile Track Of Time (Fr) (Gleneagles {Ire}), a yearling filly by Shalaa (Ire) and a weanling colt by Invincible Spirit (Ire). The last-named stallion also enjoyed success at Leopardstown on Saturday with Pearls Galore (Fr) in the G1 Coolmore America “Justify” Matron S.

G3 Prix d'Aumale heroine Joyeuse Entree (GB) (Kendor {Fr}) is the second dam of Saturday's star, and is proving a reliable source of black type, having left the G1 French 2000 Guineas-winning Tin Horse (Ire) (Sakhee), the stakes winner Becomes You (GB) (Lomitas {GB}) and is the granddam of five more stakes winners, counting Jadoomi.

Holy Roman Emperor’s Jadoomi Notches Goodwood Triumph

Coming back off an extended sabbatical, 2020's G1 Criterium International third Jadoomi (Fr) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}–South Sister {GB}, by Sakhee) registered a stakes breakthrough in last month's Listed Prix du Pays d'Auge at Clairefontaine when turning up for just his second outing in almost two years and continued on a rapid upward trajectory with victory in Saturday's G2 William Hill Celebration Mile at Goodwood. The 10-3 chance recovered from an early stumble and shadowed the pace in second for the most part. Scrubbed along to reduce arrears approaching the quarter-mile marker, he was unable to subdue stablemate Finest Sound (Ire) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) until late in the day and kept on relentlessly under continued rousting to deny that tenacious rival by a neck in the dying strides.

“Both of them ran a huge race, I'm absolutely delighted and couldn't be happier,” said trainer Ed Crisford. “Jadoomi loved that ground and just outstayed them at the very end. We've got races like the [G2] Prix Dollar on Arc weekend and he is also in the [G2] Boomerang S. at Leopardstown, so I think we'll just see how he is and go from there. He likes this softer ground, so I think we'll follow the rain.”

Jadoomi becomes the 53rd pattern-race winner for his sire (by Danehill) and the first for South Sister (GB) (Sakhee), herself a winning full-sister to G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains hero Tin Horse (Ire). He is kin to a 2-year-old colt by Gleneagles (Ire), a yearling filly by Shalaa (Ire) and a weanling colt by Invincible Spirit (Ire). Irish Sires Shine Down Under

The veteran stallions Invincible Spirit (Ire) and Holy Roman Emperor (Ire) each sired a new Group 2 winner Down Under at Eagle Farm on Saturday. First to strike was Irish Sequel (Ire), formerly known as Bashiyr (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in the Northern Hemisphere, for trainer Chris Waller. Waller is currently in the UK overseeing the preparation of crack sprinters Nature Strip (Aus) (Nicconi {Aus}) and Home Affairs (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}) for their Royal Ascot bids.

The gelding, the 70th group winner for his sire, clawed his way to a head victory in the A$200,000 G2 Brisbane Cup over 3200 metres, just besting Through Irish Eyes (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}), (VIDEO). The 6-year-old made his first 10 starts in Ireland and sported two victories there before catching Waller's eye for €50,000 at the 2020 Goffs Autumn Horses-in-Training Sale. Bred by His Highness The Aga Khan's Studs, he now races for a large ownership group. Successful in the June 4 Listed Winter Cup over 2400 metres at Rosehill, Irish Sequel was making his first start at the two-mile trip. His dam claimed the G3 Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial as a sophomore, and produced the Group 3-placed Balansiya (Ire) (Shamardal) as her first foal. Since foaling the winner, Baliyana (Ire) (Dalakhani {Ire}) has the winning 5-year-old entire Balmari (Ire) (Mukhadram {GB}) and the winning Kodiac (GB) 3-year-old colt Equos Allez (Ire) to her name. A half-sister to G2 King Edward VII S. scorer Balakheri (Ire) (Theatrical {Ire}), her most recent foal is a juvenile colt by No Nay Never.

Later on the card was the A$1.2-million G2 Sky Racing Q22 (Eagle Farm Cup) over 2200 metres, and it was Teme Valley's Numerian (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), who prevailed by a length over Kolding (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ), (VIDEO) for trainer Annabel Neasham. Turning into the straight on the lead, the 6-year-old gelding fended off all comers for a first group score and became his sire's 52nd at that level. Prior to racing in Australia, the son of the unraced Kantikoy (GB) (Alzao) who was bred by Annmarie O'Brien's Whisperview Trading, had won the Listed Devoy S. and was placed four times at group level in Ireland. He'd trotted up by three-quarters of a length in the Listed Gosford Gold Cup on May 7. His dam has a 3-year-old colt by Kingston Hill (GB) and a 2-year-old full-brother to the winner named Montesilvano (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}). This is the extended family of Classic winner and GI Breeders' Cup Turf second Milan (GB) (Sadler's Wells).

Teme Valley has enjoyed success this year in the G3 Blue Wind S. with Tranquil Lady (Ire) (Australia {GB}), who ran sixth in the G1 Cazoo Oaks behind Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) earlier this month. The filly's older half-brother and three-time Group 1 winner State Of Rest (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) originally raced for the operation, but was sold on and now bears the colours of the State Of Rest Partnership. He will stand for Newgate Farm in the Southern Hemisphere and Rathbarry Stud in the Northern Hemisphere at the conclusion of his racing career.
