First Foals for World of Trouble

Multiple Grade I winner World of Trouble (Kantharos) was represented by his first foal when a colt out of the unraced Sparkling Beauty (Flat Out) was born Jan. 12 at McKathan Farm.

World of Trouble's breeder, Daryl Clark of Darsan, Inc., welcomed one of the stallion's first foals when stakes-producing Lizzie K (High Fly) foaled a filly Jan. 30.

“The foal bears a strong resemblance to her sire,” Clark said. “She looks like she will be very fast. I am very pleased with what I see.”

World of Trouble won the 2019 GI Carter H. and GI Jaipur Invitational. He stands at Hill 'n' Dale for a fee of $15,000.

Curlin’s Voyage Retired, Will Be Bred To Tapit

Curlin's Voyage, by leading sire Curlin out of Atlantic Voyage, has been retired, according to an announcement from Hill 'n' Dale Farm Tuesday. The 3-year-old filly was bred and raised by Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings, Inc.

Raced by John G. Sikura and Windsor Boys Racing and trained by Josie Carroll, Curlin's Voyage compiled an enviable record as a juvenile, being on the board five times in six starts including three wins, a second and a third.

Named Champion Two-Year-Old Filly in Canada, Curlin's Voyage validated her championship form at three with a convincing victory in the $500,000 Woodbine Oaks.

She retires with earnings of $536,056 and will be bred to Three-Time Champion Sire Tapit for the 2021 breeding season.

Multiple Grade I Winner Bast to Be Offered at Fasig-Tipton November

Three-time Grade I winner Bast (Uncle Mo), in foal to Triple Crown winner Justify (Scat Daddy), will be offered at this year’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale through Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, who will consign the 3-year-old bay on behalf of owner Charles Chu’s Baoma Corporation.

The only three-time Grade I winning filly of her crop in the U.S., she is also the only Grade I-winning juvenile filly of that crop to add a graded stakes victory at three. Trained throughout her career by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, she established herself as the West Coast’s leading 2-year-old filly in 2019 with a powerful 8 3/4-length victory in the GI Del Mar Debutante and a wire-to-wire score in the GI Chandelier S. She was then third after setting swift fractions over a tiring Santa Anita racetrack in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Bast would conclude her two-year-old campaign with a victory in the GI Starlet S. at Los Alamitos, going gate to wire over off going. She then kicked off her sophomore campaign with another triumph in the seven-furlong GII Santa Ynez S. in January at Santa Anita. She retired with a record of 6-4-1-1 and $852,200 in earnings.

“Bast’s tremendous ability and gorgeous looks should make her an outstanding broodmare,” said Baffert. “I have only seen five yearling fillies at the sales that were a ‘must buy’ in my life, and she is one them. She is that beautiful.”

Bast was purchased by Baffert and agent Donato Lanni on behalf of Baoma Corporation for $500,000 at Fasig-Tipton’s 2018 Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale.

“Bast was a fantastic racemare,” said John Sikura of consignor Hill ‘n’ Dale. “Selected and trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, in foal to Triple crown winner Justify, and by leading sire Uncle Mo. She is without fault and has everything a breeder desires–class, performance, and pedigree at the highest levels.”

Added Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning: “Bast is another tremendous racehorse campaigned by Charles and Susan Chu. Her brilliance on the racetrack and impeccable pedigree make her a broodmare with unlimited potential.”

Bayern Filly Last to First in Muskoka S.

Overlooked at long odds here and one of two unraced juvenile fillies in the line up, El Bayern became her GI Breeders’ Cup Classic-winning sire’s first black-type winner in the Muskoka S. on Sunday. Awkwardly away, she looked like she was spinning her wheels while dead last by several lengths for the first few furlongs. Asked for her bid with 2 ½ furlongs left to travel, she looped the field very wide out in the center of the track. Finding more as favored For My Elbi began to run out of steam, she swept by that foe to win going away, breaking her maiden and her black-type duck simultaneously.

Since foaling the winner, El Tara has a yearling colt by Silent Name (Jpn) and a filly of this year by Seattle Serenade. Under the third dam is Canadian Champion Sprinter and MGSW Apelia (Cool Victor), herself the dam of Canadian Champion Older Mare and MGSW Saoirse (Cure the Blues) and GII Adirondack S. victress More Happy (Vindication).
