Agave Will Skip The Cazoo Oaks

Group 3 winner Agave (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) has been removed from the G1 Cazoo Oaks field, leaving 18 fillies in the hunt for the fillies' Classic, following the release of the current acceptances on Friday. The Juddmonte homebred won her first three starts, including the G3 Prix Penelope on Apr. 2, but she was last seen running second in the G2 Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud this past Sunday. Impressive G3 Tattersalls Musidora S. victress and 'TDN Rising Star' Emily Upjohn (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), for John and Thady Gosden, remains the market leader.

Another filly out of a Classic is Group 3 winner Hermana Estrella (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}), who will miss the G1 French 1000 Guineas on Sunday and instead point for the Irish equivalent on May 22, as trainer Fozzy Stack deemed the underfoot conditions to be too dry for his filly. Although she has only made one start, the Paul Smith, Joe Poulin and J. Carthy colourbearer made it count, taking the G3 Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies Sprint S. at Naas last May.

“It was just the weather forecast,” he said. “The forecast is very dry and very hot for the weekend in Paris–around 28C or 29C–and so we are just going to wait for the Curragh on the following Sunday. She is in good form.”

Albany Under Consideration For Hermana Estrella

Sunday's G3 Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies Sprint S. victress Hermana Estrella (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) is being aimed at a start in the G3 Albany S. at Royal Ascot on June 18. The filly, a 50-1 longshot at Naas, was making her first start and has come out of the race well.

“She'd been working well at home,” said trainer Fozzy Stack. “She hasn't been away to work or anything and hasn't even worked on grass, so it was actually a very good performance.

“She'd shown plenty of talent at home. If it hadn't worked out we'd have been left with egg on our face if she'd run very green, but it worked out well. She's a smart filly.”

“Royal Ascot would be a possibility, or maybe the race on Derby weekend here,” Stack added. “It will be the Albany or that race, I'd imagine. We'll take our time and talk to connections and see what everybody wants to do.

“She gets six furlongs well, so the soft ground in Naas might have helped on that front, but I don't think she needs it soft. I'd like to think she could step up in trip for something like the [G1] Moyglare [Stud S.] later in the season.”

Starspangledbanner Filly In Naas Upset

There was an unexpected turn-up in the G3 Coolmore Stud EBF Fillies Sprint S. at Naas on Sunday, with the apparent “good thing” Contarelli Chapel (Ire) (Caravaggio) managing only fourth behind the Fozzy Stack-trained newcomer Hermana Estrella (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}). Slowly away and racing in rear early off the strong tempo, the 50-1 shot was behind Ballydoyle's 2-7 favourite at halfway but had to come around as that rival began to struggle. Responding to Chris Hayes's urgings, the debutante worked her way past the speedy but errant Quick Suzy (Ire) (Profitable {Ire}) inside the final 75 yards to secure a length success. “She's a very smart filly and Fozzy doesn't make entries like that unless they are good,” Hayes commented. “She's one of our nicer two-year-olds. She was green and raw, as you would expect going against experienced company but to me I was coasting and everything was going in slow motion. She was green and ran around, but won with her ears pricked. She is one to look forward to.”

Hermana Estrella is the second and final foal out of the unraced The Last Sister (Ire) (Lord Shanakill) who died after producing this talented performer. She was a half-sister to the G3 C L Weld Park S. and G3 Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial S. winner Lady Springbank (Ire) by Starspangledbanner's sire Choisir (Aus), who in turn produced the listed-placed Expressionism (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The third dam is the listed-winning and group-placed Santina (Ger) (Gimont {Ger}), whose descendants include the G3 Prix d'Arenberg scorer This Time (Fr) (Zafeen {Fr}) and the G3 Grosser Preis von Berlin winner Shinko's Best (Ire) (Shinko Forest {Ire}).
