Breeding Right In Havana Grey And A Share In Almanzor To Sell In Tattersalls Online November Sale

A lifetime breeding right in smart, young sire Havana Grey (GB) will be offered during the Tattersalls November Sale on Nov. 16-17. The Whitsbury Manor Stud-based grey leads all first-crop European sires by earnings, stakes winners (5), and black-type horses with 13. A stunning 82 of his 100 first-crop foals have already faced the starter, resulting in 41 winners, only two behind Sioux Nation's 43 winners this season. It was announced on Monday that he would stand for an increased fee of £18,500 in 2023.

Also selling is a share in dual-hemisphere shuttler Almanzor (Fr), who sired his first Group 1 winner with Manzoice (Aus)'s victory in the G1 Victoria Derby at Flemington recently. That colt is one of six stakes winners divided between both hemispheres for Almanzor, with the listed winners Dynastic (NZ), 'TDN Rising Star' Lassaut (Fr), and Around Midnight (Fr) also placed at Group 1 level, the G2 Prix Niel, and the G3 Prix des Reservoirs, respectively. His stud fee at Haras d'Etreham in France was also announced on Monday, and the bay will be available for €25,000.

The complete catalogue for the upcoming Tattersalls Online November Sale will be released on Thursday.

Havana Grey’s Lady Hollywood In Charge At ParisLongchamp

Amo Racing And Omnihorse Racing's Lady Hollywood (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) had failed to see out the six furlongs of York's G2 Lowther S. when down the field last time Aug. 18, but back over five she was able to dominate ParisLongchamp's G3 Prix d'Arenberg on Thursday. Racing close to the early pace under Mickael Barzalona, the 4-1 shot was committed passing the two-furlong pole and led soon after en route to a 1 1/4-length verdict over Vicious Harry (Fr) (Harry Angel {Ire}). “She's a very fast filly,” trainer Alice Haynes said after greeting her first group winner. “She didn't quite stay the six furlongs last time and we'll probably end up at the Breeders' Cup [Turf Sprint]. She's had a lot of racing, so we'll give her a little break now.”

This was the second black-type win for the chestnut, who had beaten the leading Irish sprint fillies Mauiewowie (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) and Treasure Trove (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) in the Listed Marwell S. at Naas July 20 having won at Lingfield June 25 and at Beverley July 12. She also provides Whitsbury Manor Stud's first-season sire sensation with a breakthrough first group win as he continues to pour it on in the race for the bragging rights among the newblood sires.

The winner is the last known foal out of a relative of Momalorka (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}), who was the Filly Triple Crown winner in Qatar and finished third in the G3 Firth of Clyde S. The family also features the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S.-winning sire Where Or When (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}).

First Black Type Winner For Havana Grey

With the kind of start that Whitsbury Manor Stud's Havana Grey (GB) has enjoyed, it was only a matter of time before his first crop featured a black-type winner and it duly came at Naas on Wednesday evening. Supplied by the Amo Racing And Omnihorse Racing-owned and Alice Haynes-trained filly Lady Hollywood (GB) in the five-furlong Listed Arqana Irish EBF Marwell S., the landmark is surely only the beginning in this category for one of the most successful first-season sires of recent times (by Havana Gold {Ire}). Always travelling easily under Rossa Ryan tracking the pace, the 100-30 second favourite picked off the 5-6 market-leader Mauiewowie (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) approaching the final furlong en route to a comfortable 1 1/2-length success.

Haynes said of the winner, who had easily beat Thursday's maiden winner Mrs U S A (Ire) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) at Lingfield June 25 and at Beverley July 12, “Our only concern coming here today was whether this race was a bit too soon from Beverley but the form was franked when the horse that she beat twice just went and won before this race. She has a great brain and is so straightforward to train. She showed a lot of speed here and it appears that she is getting quicker and quicker. We can probably set our sights a bit higher now. Rossa just said about sending her to America for the Breeders' Cup, but we'll go back to the drawing board and speak to the owner before making a plan.”

The winner is the last known foal out of a relative of Momalorka (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}), who was third in the G3 Firth of Clyde S., and of the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S.-winning sire Where Or When (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}).
