MG1SW Hello Youmzain Retired to Haras d’Etreham

MG1SW Hello Youmzain (Fr) (Kodiac {GB}-Spasha {GB}, by Shamardal) has been retired and will take up stud duties at Haras d’Etreham in France. Etreham and Cambridge Stud purchased the bay for stallion duty last October, and he will shuttle to Brendan and Jo Lindsay’s New Zealand property to fulfill Southern Hemisphere obligations in due course. Etreham and Cambridge joined forces to stand Hello Youmzain’s new barnmate Almanzor (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}) in 2018. A fee for the Rabbah Bloodstock-bred will be announced later and his book will be capped at 140 mares.

“We are delighted to welcome Hello Youmzain and offer his services to French breeders,” said Nicolas de Chambure of Haras d’Etreham. “He presents a rare profile as no sprinter of this caliber has begun his stud career in France since Anabaa. He is a high-class individual with a strong physique and fantastic movement. He will be supported by a powerful syndicate and should attract mares from Ireland and England.”

Trained by Kevin Ryan, Hello Youmzain’s juvenile season was highlighted with a debut score and two starts on a win in the G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte, and he returned at three to claim the G2 Sandy Lane S. at Haydock last May. Third in the G1 Commonwealth Cup S. at Royal Ascot a month later, he earned his first Group 1 badge with a win in the G1 Betfair Sprint Cup in September in his final start for owner Jaber Abdullah. Two starts later, the son of Spasha scored in the G1 Diamond Jubilee S. at Royal Ascot as a 4-year-old, and was also runner-up later this season in the G1 LARC Prix Maurice de Gheest. Hello Youmzain retires with a mark of 12-5-2-1 and $733,464 in earnings.

Said trainer Kevin Ryan, “He was a lovely horse to train, showed his class and ability at a very early stage and was such a sound horse all the way through his career. He had such a great temperament and proved to be very tough and genuine.”

Hello Youmzain is a half-brother to German/Italian highweight, MGSW-Ger, GSW-Ity, and G1 German Derby third Royal Youmzain (Fr) (Youmzain {Ire}); English SW Zuhoor Baynoona (Ire) (Elnadim); and the SP Saglawy (Fr) (Youmzain {Ire}). His second dam is a half-sister to G2 Hardwicke S. winner Sandmason (GB) (Grand Lodge), and SW & GSP Sardegna (GB) (Pharly {Fr}). This is also the family of Australian Group 1 winner Summer Passage (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}).

Daughter of Sea the Stars Added to Arqana October

A yearling filly by Sea The Stars (Ire) is a late addition to the Arqana October Yearling Sale Part I on Oct. 19-23. Offered by Haras d’Etreham as lot 110bis, she is out of Scandinavian champion Matauri Pearl (Ire) (Hurricane Run {Ire}), herself a full-sister to MGSW & MG1SP Wekeela (Fr) (Hurricane Run {Ire}). In the extended family is MG1SW and star sire Monsun (Ger) (Konigsstuhl {Ger}), as well as dual Classic hero Brametot (Ire) (Rajsaman {Fr}). The five-day sale will see 785 yearlings go under the hammer at Deauville.

MG1SW Persian King to Stand at Haras d’Etreham in 2021

MG1SW Persian King (Ire) (Kingman {GB}-Pretty Please {Ire}, by Dylan Thomas {Ire}) will stand at Haras d’Etreham in 2021, Etreham announced on Tuesday. The stud and SF Bloodstock in association with Darley and Dayton Investments will be involved with the three-time Group 1 winner’s stallion career. A fee for the Sept. 6 G1 Prix du Moulin hero, who will join Almanzor (Fr), Hello Youmzain (Fr), City Light (Fr) and Scissor Kick (Aus), will be announced later. His final race will be the G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Oct. 4.

Nicolas de Chambure of Haras d’Etreham said, “We are very pleased to have made an agreement with Dayton Investments and Godolphin to partner in the stallion career of Persian King. This is a very positive sign for France and demonstrates their confidence in our breeding industry and racing system. This is also wonderful for French breeders who will have access to such a high-class horse from his first covering season. He attempts an exceptional challenge in the Arc and will retire to the Haras d’Etreham following this race.”

Trained by Andre Fabre throughout his career, the bay was named a ‘TDN Rising Star’ at two and in his final race that year, saluted in the G3 Autumn S. at Newmarket for Ballymore Thoroughbred Ltd. Godolphin joined Ballymore in the ownership of Persian King and he picked up right where he left off, taking the G3 Prix de Fontainebleau and G1 French 2000 Guineas in quick succession, before running second in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club. This season he has added the G2 Prix du Muguet, G1 Prix d’Ispahan and Prix du Moulin to his ledger. His only performance out of the top two in his 12 starts was a fourth in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois in August. His earnings stand at $1,292,499.

“Persian King has shown great courage and consistency in all his races,” said trainer Andre Fabre. “He is a very calm horse, very relaxed but with a high cruising speed and explosive acceleration. He showed his quality at 2-years-old by beating two future Group1 winners at Newmarket and he progressed further at three and four. I am delighted that this magnificent horse will remain in France and join one of this country’s leading studs.”

The second foal from his winning dam, Persian King was bred by Dayton Investments Ltd. in Ireland. His dam is a half-sister to G1 Prix Ganay hero Planteur (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), who ran second in both the G1 Prix du Jockey Club and G1 Grand Prix de Paris. Farther back are French Highweight, MGSW & G1SP Policy Maker (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) and G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil hero Pushkin (Ire) (Caerleon), who ran second in the G1 Prix du Cadran. The outstanding European Horse of the Year Peintre Celebre (Nureyev) is under the Group 3-winning fourth dam Petroleuse (Ire) (Habitat). Petroleuse is kin to English Horse of the Year and French Classic victress Pawneese (Ire) (Carvin II {Fr}).

Freshman Sire Scissor Kick Off the Mark at Vichy

Haras d’Etreham-based Scissor Kick (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}) became the latest European freshman sire off the mark when Remy Dupuy-Naulot’s twice-raced juvenile colt Kick Boxing (Fr), gained a narrow verdict in Tuesday’s Prix de Pionsat over one mile at Vichy.

KICK BOXING (FR) (c, 2, Scissor Kick {Aus}–Dulche de Leche {Fr}, by Victory Note), a June 21 debut third at Lyon-Parilly before improving one spot going seven furlongs here last month, stole a length on the field with a sharp getaway and was comfortable on the lead for the most part. Shaken up soon after passing the two pole, the 14-5 chance rallied gamely when headed by Quindiano (Fr) (Elvstroem {Aus}) with a furlong remaining and outbattled that rival in the closing stages to score by a short neck, becoming the first winner for his Haras d’Etreham-based freshman sire (by Redoute’s Choice {Aus}). The February-foaled bay is the latest of seven foals and fifth winner produced by an unraced half-sister to G1 Champion S.-winning sire Literato (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}). His second dam La Cibeles (Fr) (Cardoun {Fr}) ran third in the G3 Prix Fille de l’Air and is a daughter of stakes-winning multiple Spanish champion Douberta (Fr) (Don Roberto).
