Grayson Grass Challenge: Indiana Grand Partners With Research Foundation For Handicapping Challenge

Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation announced today that it will be the beneficiary of the “Grayson Grass Challenge,” sponsored by Indiana Grand Racing & Casino.

The Grayson Grass Challenge will be a five-week handicapping contest starting the week of August 10 whereby participants in the challenge submit selections on two specified turf races each week at Indiana Grand through the week of September 7. Each contestant will be given a $500 bankroll provided by Indiana Grand, of which $100 can be wagered each week. The bankroll can be used for win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, and superfecta wagers. At the end of the five weeks, all remaining bankroll plus winnings from the contestants will go to Grayson.

“Our sport is not possible without healthy horses, and Grayson funds research projects that facilitate wellness among all horses, including racehorses,” said Eric Halstrom, vice president and general manager of racing for Indiana Grand. “I wish our expert handicappers the best of luck in their efforts to raise money for such an important cause.”

“We are excited to work with Indiana Grand and all contest participants as part of the Grayson Grass Challenge,” said Jamie Haydon, president of Grayson. “We are thankful to all parties for their enthusiasm in supporting equine health and wellness.”

The field for the Grayson Grass Challenge will consist of four individuals: Nick Luck, international racing broadcaster; Gabe Prewitt, analyst for Scioto Downs and Pompano Park; Ellis Starr, national racing analyst for Equibase; and Daniel Tordjman, America's Best Racing handicapper and manager of Partnerships & Sponsorships. Indiana Grand will also participate with an entry of rotating picks from Nancy Holthus, paddock analyst; Rachel McLaughlin, racing analyst and production manager; and Bill Downes, track announcer.

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot At Gulfstream Guaranteed For $900,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $900,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 13th consecutive racing program Friday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $41.08.

There will also be a Super Hi 5 carryover of $3,827.04.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

A mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 has been scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 2.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11 and will include the $60,000 Ana T Stakes in Race 9 and the $60,000 Mecke Stakes in Race 10.

Lady's Island will seek her ninth win in 10 starts while facing seven other fillies and mares as the 4-5 morning-line favorite in the six-furlong Ana T.

Multiple-stakes winner Galleon Mast is set to face a full field of 3-year-olds and up in the Mecke, a mile turf event, as the 5-2 morning-line favorite.

Stronach 5 Cancelled When Races Taken Off The Turf At Laurel, Gulfstream

The Stronach 5 for Friday, July 24 has been cancelled after three races at Laurel Park and one at Gulfstream Park were taken off the turf.

The popular wager with the $100,000 guaranteed pool and industry-low 12-percent takeout will return Friday, July 31.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.

Gulfstream: Friday’s Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed At $750,000

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $750,000 Friday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the 12th consecutive racing program Thursday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $9,547.24.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Friday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Race 4-9, including back-to-back optional claiming allowances in Races 7 and 8. Stakes winner Midnight Soiree, who finished third in the In the Breeze last time out, is rated as the 2-1 morning-line favorite in Race 7, a mile turf event for fillies and mares. R U Lucky, a winner two races back, will attempt to make amends for a third-place finish as the favorite last time out in Friday's co-feature, a mile race for 3-year-olds and up.

Race 8 will also be included in Friday's Stronach 5 sequence as Leg 2. Friday's Race 9, a five-furlong turf sprint that attracted a full field of $12,500 claimers, will be Leg 4 of the popular weekly wager. Laurel Park's Races 6, 7 and 8 will be included as Legs 1, 3 and 5, respectively.

The Stronach 5 is a $1 minimum base wager with a $100,000 guaranteed pool.

NOTE: Reluctant Bride, fourth in the Davona Dale (G2) and sixth in the Sweetest Chant (G3) here over the winter, returned from a five-month layoff to win Thursday's ninth race, a $54,000 allowance optional claimer at six furlongs. Owned by D P Racing LLC and by Patrick Biancone Racing LLC and trained by Biancone, Reluctant Bride covered the distance in 1:10.98 under jockey Luca Panici. Lenzi's Lucky Lady, a Florida Sire Stakes winner last summer, finished second in her first start since August. Panici had two winners Thursday as did Hector Berrios.
