Freshman Sire Hootenanny Off The Mark at Pontefract

Hootenanny (Quality Road) became the latest freshman sire off the mark when the Kevin Ryan-trained Louisiana-bred filly Esken Rose shed maiden status on debut in Thursday's Northern Commercials Service, Sales & Parts Novice S. at Pontefract. The $4,000 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling and £38,000 Goresbridge@Newmarket breezer, who sported the colours of Hambleton Racing, made all to defeat Clarets Glory (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) by a length.

1st-Pontefract, £7,200, Nov, 9-16, 2yo, 6fT, 1:16.39, g/f.
ESKEN ROSE (f, 2, Hootenanny–Eskenforandreya, by Eskendereya) was the sharpest of nine into stride and seized an immediate lead in this debut. Holding sway throughout, the 14-1 chance turned for home with a comfortable buffer and kept on strongly under a final-furlong drive to hold the late bid of Clarets Glory (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) by a length, becoming the first winner for her freshman sire (by Quality Road). Esken Rose is the lone foal produced by a winning full-sister to dual stakes scorer He's The Reason (The Factor) and stakes-winning GIII Ohio Derby and GIII Palm Beach S. placegetter South Bend (Algorithms). The April-foaled bay's MGSP second dam Sandra's Rose (Old Trieste) is a half-sister to three black-type winners headed by GII American Derby hero and GI Hollywood Derby runner-up Mananan McLir (Royal Academy). Sales history: $4,000 Ylg '20 FTKOCT; £38,000 2yo '21 TATGOR. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $5,381.

Atomic Force Exported To Hong Kong

Atomic Force (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}), winner of this season's G3 Prix du Bois and G2 Prix Robert Papin, has been exported to Hong Kong to continue his racing career. Trained by Kevin Ryan initially for Hambleton Racing, Atomic Force was gelded after finishing second at first asking, and broke his maiden at Hamilton on May 26. He was purchased privately by the Hong Kong-based Siu Pak Kwan after winning the Prix du Bois by five lengths, after which he added the Prix Robert Papin by 2 1/2 lengths.

Bloodstock agent Alastair Donald, who brokered the deal for Atomic Force when he was bought from Hambleton Racing, said, “The fact that he's a gelding rather limited the Group 1 options for him over here. The owners were keen to get him to Hong Kong. We were keen to run him again, but there was a lack of options. He is not eligible for the [G1] Prix Morny and it would have been a case of waiting for something like the [G1] Prix de l'Abbaye, which is a long way away. The owners took the view of giving him a rest. He's quite a big horse, so he's got a good future ahead of him in Hong Kong.”

Cotai Glory’s Atomic Force Too Strong In the Robert Papin

So dominant in the G3 Prix du Bois over six furlongs at Chantilly June 20, Siu Pak Kwan's Atomic Force (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) returned to the same course and distance on Sunday to repeat the dose in the G2 Darley Prix Robert Papin. Sent straight to the front by Stephane Pasquier as he had been last time, the 1-2 favourite never looked like relinquishing his advantage en route to a 2 1/4-length success from Baghed (GB) (Twilight Son {GB}). “He's just that type of horse, he's very simple to do anything with,” trainer Kevin Ryan said of the eighth consecutive British-trained winner of this prize formerly staged over 5 1/2 furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte. “He has a high cruising speed and can quicken off it. He puts horses in trouble a fair way out and he's done it again today.”

Atomic Force, who first served notice that he was potent from the front when winning a Hamilton novice for the Hambleton Racing syndicate May 26, is currently the leading representative of his sire's first crop. The last known foal out of Atlas Silk (GB) (Dansili {GB}), his second dam is the Listed Aphrodite S. winner and G2 Ribblesdale S.-placed Marani (GB) (Ashkalani {Ire}) who is herself the leading performer out of the Listed Cheshire Oaks winner Aquamarine (GB) (Shardari {Ire}).

Atomic Force a Stakes First for Cotai Glory at Chantilly

Hambleton Racing's Atomic Force (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) registered a breakthrough score going five furlongs at Hamilton in his second start last month and was in dominant mood for Sunday's G3 Prix du Bois Longines upped in trip to six furlongs at Chantilly, leading from pillar to post and providing his Tally-Ho Stud-based freshman sire (by Exceed and Excel {Aus}) with a first black-type success. The March-foaled gelded bay, who posted an Apr. 3 debut second over five furlongs at Musselburgh, was away sharply for this first start outside Scotland and assumed immediate control of this straight dash. Rowed along when threatened briefly at the quarter-mile marker, the 69-10 chance was safely clear entering the final furlong and kept on strongly under continued mild urging to easily outclass Black Lives Matter (Fr) (Panis) by an impressive five lengths for a career high.

“He gave me a really great feeling and that was very easy from start to finish,” commented winning rider Stephane Pasquier. “He is a very nice horse and capable of going on to much better things. As a gelding, he will be unable to target the [Aug. 22 G1 Prix] Morny [at Deauville] and, although I don't know if it's on the radar for connections, the [July 17 G2 Prix] Robert Papin [back over this course and distance] is an obvious possibilty in the short term.”

Atomic Force is the latest of seven foals and and first black-type performer produced by a winning daughter of stakes-winning G2 Ribblesdale S. placegetter Marani (GB) (Ashkalani {Ire}). His dam Atlas Silk (GB) (Dansili {GB}) is a daughter of Listed Cheshire Oaks victrix Aquamarine (GB) (Shardari {Ire}), herself a half-sister to G1 St Leger-winning sire Toulon (GB) (Top Ville {Ire}). Descendants of Aquamarine, who is also and a granddaughter of G1 Prix Ganay and G1 Grand Premio del Jockey Club e Coppa d'Oro heroine Infra Green (GB) (Laser Light {GB}), include three-time stakes scorer Royal Dolois (Fr) (Silver Frost {Ire}) and G1 Prix du Jockey Club third Pain Perdu (Fr) (Vespone {Ire}).
