90k Anchor Down Colt Tops Louisiana Yearling Sale

A colt by Anchor Down out of the unraced Half Ours mare Solo Buena was purchased by Noble Oaks Farm for $90,000 to top Thursday's Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association's Breeders Yearling Sale.

Hip 131 is a full-brother to the stakes-placed Swot Analysis and a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Free Drop Maddy (Free Drop Billy). The top three yearlings in the sale were all sold by Clear Creek Stud LLC, agent.

A total of 120 yearlings sold for a gross of $1,306,100, an average of $10,884 and a median of $6,000. There were 40 RNAs.

Followed by mixed session, two weanlings sold for a gross of $6,700 and an average of $2,350. One horse of racing age sold for $1,000 and 23 broodmares sold for a gross of $67,300 and an average of $2,926. The overall gross for the sale was $1,381,100.

Leading Louisiana Stallion Half Ours Euthanized

Half Ours (Unbridled's Song–Zing, by Storm Cat), a four-time leading sire in Louisiana, was euthanized Saturday, July 17, following a paddock accident at Clear Creek Stud. He was 18 years old.

“It is a sad day for us all,” said Clear Creek's Val Murrell. “Half Ours enriched our breeders' program in Louisiana and beyond, having touched many who bred and raced. He was obviously an integral part of Clear Creek Stud's very existence, like a family member that you saw every day. His loss will be felt by many and his influence will remain for years to come, defined by progeny that always showed up, held together, running on both dirt or grass.”

Bred by Brilliant Stables, Half Ours was purchased by the late Buzz Chace for $625,000 at the 2004 Keeneland September sale and became one of the first 'TDN Rising Stars' when graduating by better than 10 lengths as first asking for owners Aaron and Marie Jones and Barry K. Schwartz and trainer Todd Pletcher at Keeneland before following up in the Three Chimneys Juvenile S. in 2005. Aaron Jones bought out his partner when Half Ours sold for $6.1 million to top the Keeneland November sale in 2006 and the colt ran his unbeaten streak to five with a victory in the 2007 GII Richter Scale Breeders' Cup H. before heading to the breeding shed with a career mark of 7-5-1-0.

Half Ours entered stud at Taylor Made Stallions in Kentucky before moving to Clear Creek for the 2011 breeding season. From 11 crops to race, he is the sire to date of 24 stakes winners and led the Louisiana sires' table from 2014 to 2016.

Not This Time Filly Tops OBS July Sale’s Second Session

Hip No. 640, a daughter of Not This Time consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Emerald Sales, Agent for Tobey L. Morton, for $270,000 to top the second session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2020 July Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age.

The chestnut filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was the fastest at the distance at Thursday's under tack session, is out of Exotic Design, by A.P. Indy, a daughter of grade one stakes winner Exotic Wood and a full sister to stakes winner Key to Power.

Dennis O'Neill paid $185,000 for Hip No. 383, a son of Half Ours consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Inc., Agent, whose quarter in :20 1/5 on Wednesday was the sale's fastest at the distance. The bay colt is out of All About Ju Ju, by Into Mischief, a half-sister to stakes placed Gregorian Bay.

Hip No. 473, a daughter of Palace Malice consigned by Hoppel's Horse & Cattle Co., Inc, was sold to Clay Scherer, Agent for Al & Bill Ulwelling, for $175,000. The bay filly, whose eighth in :10 flat was co-fastest at the distance on Wednesday, is a half-sister to stakes placed Merveilleux out of Breech Inlet, by Holy Bull, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Bauble Queen.
Hip No. 427, a daughter of Uncle Mo consigned by Gayle Woods, Agent, who breezed three-eighths in :34 2/5 on Wednesday, was purchased by Randy Bradshaw, Agent, for $150,000. The bay filly is out of Bama Belle, by Giant's Causeway, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Funny Moon.
West Bloodstock, Agent for Repole Stables, paid $110,000 for Hip No. 643, Amount, a son of Curlin who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 on Thursday. Consigned by Harris Training Center LLC, Agent, the chestnut colt is a half brother to graded stakes winner Size out of Extent, by Pulpit.

For the session, 155 horses sold for a total of $3,869,800, compared with 225 grossing $7,719,700 at last year's second session. The average was $24,966 compared with $34,310 a year ago, while the median price was $13,000, compared to $17,500 in 2019. The buyback percentage was 25.7 percent; it was 17.3 percent last year.

The July Sale continues Thursday at 10 a.m. Hip No.'s 721 – 1114 will be offered.

Half Ours Colt Quickest At OBS July Sale’s Third Under Tack Session

Hip No. 383, a son of Half Ours consigned by Blue River Bloodstock, Inc., Agent, sped a quarter in :20 1/5 to post the fastest work at the distance at the third session of the under tack show for Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2020 July Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age.

The bay colt is out of All About Ju Ju, by Into Mischief, a half sister to stakes placed Gregorian Bay.

Hip No. 492, Capri's Son, a gray or roan colt by Shackleford consigned by Fabian Sales, turned in a quarter in :20 2/5. He's out of Capri Song, by More Than Ready, from the family of Grade 1 winner Dispute.

Hip No. 524, I'm a Coco Pebbles, a daughter of He's Had Enough consigned by AVP Training and Sales, Agent, breezed the session's fastest three-eighths, clocked in :33 4/5. The chestnut filly is out of Chocolate Almond, by Candy Ride (ARG), from the family of champion Hollywood Wildcat.

Five horses shared honors for the day's fastest eighth, stopping the timer in :10 flat.

Hip No. 428, a bay filly by Runhappy consigned by Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, is out of stakes winner Bamboo Dream, by Finality, from the family of sprint champion Amazombie.
Hip No. 473, a bay filly by Palace Malice consigned by Hoppel's Horse and Cattle Co., Inc, is a half-sister to stakes placed Merveilleux out of Breech Inlet, by Holy Bull, a half sister to graded stakes winner Bauble Queen.
Hip No. 502, consigned by Vargas Sales, Agent, is a chestnut filly by Midshipman out of Cat Ten, by Greatness, from the family of Grade 1 winner Geri.
Hip No. 510, a dark bay or brown filly by Not This Time consigned by Oscar Brown Stables, is out of Champagne Sparkle, by Street Boss, a full-sister to Grade 1 winner Danza and a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Majestic Harbor.
Hip No. 525, Pretty Lori, a dark bay or brown filly by Maclean's Music consigned by Gene Recio, Agent, is out of Chokonni, by Arch, from the family of champion Althea.

The under tack show continues Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. with Hip No.'s 541 – 720 scheduled to breeze.
